PMSL, still churning out the same ol bo11ocks huh?
happy as a pig in wet swill all the time the dig is at the scooby driver, but perish the thought someone dare have a pop at your beloved evo. ha ha.
then you turn into a nasty little jealous schoolgirl.
and think that by justifying your salary and other cars that its all ok then.
seems to be a common thing as well.
baseline evos (i.e. 1's and 2's) can be picked up on the MLR for the same money as early import scoobs,
as for not being spoilt in looks, I fart in your general direction, theres a couple of really nasty 5's in my hometown, a yellow one with all the bling you could want and a really rather fetching pastel purple one with half the bodykit in unprimed white abs.
which is nice.
There are cars of almost all desireable marques (albeit the cheaper end of the scale, usually) driven by types that the totalitarian brands undesireable. It happens, I see similar cars to my own that make me cringe inside, not my taste at all, but its only my taste.
I think the thing to take from it is this, you like your car, I like mine, if someone is so vain that they cannot drive a car because someone else does, then you are potentially missing out on a fantastic driving experience.
you have to be seriously blinkered to believe that the evo is exempt from barry-boy upgrades.
seriously blinkered.

Peanuts - good to talk as ever
I never denied that but park an Evo 1 or 2 next to a 5/6/7 & you could be forgiven in realising you were driving a Proton & not an Evo they look that different.
Wheras your 93WRX looks the same as every other Impreza out there (barring minor differences)
Was that when I was being called 'chav scum' - I must have missed the reference to cars? perhaps you could enlighten me?
Or was it when I was then called councilite? nope again I must have missed the comments about the car side of things again. Again, please show me where applicable?
Im sure if you were called a 'chav scum' or 'councilite' you would like to prove otherwise, im sorry my chosen method didnt pass the peanut seal of approval
Like I said unfortunately I havent seen anything shocking with an Evo as yet but prove me wrong by all means
Fair play we agree on something I don't mind admitting at yes you can buy tat for them but thankfully people don't (in the whole) but the world would be boring if we were all the same
Until the next time

I'd rather be associated with a bunch of youngsters who are enthusiastic about their cars, what's under the bonnet, what to bolt on to make it go faster, and are actually interested in driving the things; as an alternative to the older fashion zombies who 'need' to have a sense of status and superiority in life and buy a German marque to help them look down at everyone else (this relationship isn't symmetric, btw).
Given a new Type RA Spec C/Evo VIII + 10k to make it go faster, or a new standard M3; what would you rather have for your 40k ?

...still no gold wheels eh, Ultima?...or would that upset another cross-section?!!
...Autosport this week has an actual Burberry Metro!!...natural progression anyone?!!

Sorry Steve I totally disagree with you - Scoobs will never become a classic or an icon like Cossies have, especially the Esc Cos's and 3drs as there wasn't a glut of them manufactured like the Scoobs have been. Some of these have held their prices so well, that they are worth more than a 12 month old Scoob.
Far too many 'editions' of the Scoobs have been manufactured & flooded the market and unfortunately they are deemed as common nowadays and depreciate at an alarming rate.
Agree with Matt about the cossy thing.
I recon scoobs will slowly pop out the otherside and become a classic like the cossy in a few years. And like a cossy an untouched/non moded car will be very rare and will fetch a premium. Probably a UK car too.
Scoobs aren't that common and over the years engines will blow and Mr burberry will wrap them round lampposts. So hang on to them.

As stated before, whats happening to the Impreza is what happened in the past to Saph cossies, 205GTIs, RS Turbos and cars of that era/type.
There value drops and they become accessable to those that may not treat their car with the respect it deserves. I seriously considered a Series 1 Escort Turbo but I was a bit put off by its image.
I'm not saying that its a certain age group but it is a certain "type" of person we are talking about. This is not dictated by dress or accent just people who feel the need to show off in cars that aren't really any more desirable or valuable than more mundane vehicles but what tends to happen is that they show off to the point of being dangerous or a nuisance to other road users.
Yes Imprezas are suffering from an image problem, one guy at our R/C car club called it "The XR3 of the ninties!". However, I do believe that the classic will eventually reach true "Classic" status just like those cars I mentioned above. A car enthusiast who sees a well looked after clean 205 or RS Turbo or Saph Cossie will respect that vehicle for the drivers car it is.

Ok person racers! We've all been young, we've all wanted nice cars, and ok modding can be a touch untasteful -read sick bag!
Just enjoy your car whatever it is, and try not to lose your lunch if you disagree with other peoples idea of tasteful. Threads like this just turn into different type of car owners dissing each other, lifes too short, go out and drive what you own and smile, mad buggers, lol
Cal
p.s, loved the car pics earlier, lol, well funny

Redkop I very much agree that far more scoobs have been manufactured and that cossies are fewer and far between so the classic thing may have come a bit easier. But I mainly think it is a time thing, given time a classic scoob will become a classic. Were already calling it a classic. It's like golfs - you see loads of GTis on the road of all sorts of different marks. But how many mint origional Mk1s do you see. Not many. But I bet the roads were littered with them years back. So I disagree I still recon that a classic unmodified scoob will be a fairly rare motoring icon one day.
I chose 1.6 Gti because it was the first. Some considered it to be a better overall package in terms of drivabilty than the 1.9. Although the 1.9 was the one that got all the attention. Having owned both back in the early 90's. It was really down to how they were set up as to which was quicker. I used to get them tuned down at Castle Coombe on a rolling road. A well set up 1.6 was quicker than an average 1.9. Then again a well set up 1.9

The issue of having wealth at an early age has nothing to do whether you are a boy racer. Its down to the individual and how they behave.
With performance cars you usually have two groups, ones who bought them as an accessory and show off to the laydeeees and ones who bought them out of a love for performance cars. Not as grand as some here but my first decent car at 19 was a 205GTI 1.6 and yes it got a bit of a thrashing but it was probably treated/cleaned better than any car I've owned since.
On the other side I grew up with lads who bought GTIs and Turbos etc and wrote the things off at every opportunity. The point is those that write cars off and behave in an "In your face" manner draw attention to themselves and spoil it for everyone else and we all get tarred with the same brush.
You will have some who can't wait to show off about how much they've spent on their car or how powerful it is. Unfortunately those who tend to show off also tend to exagerate (sp) which makes them look a bit silly if they say these things to those who know garbage when they hear it.

yeah there are a couple of imprezas round my way that are driven round the town centre by guys in their late twenties and thirties - not sure what to make of that!
i love my scoob and dont drive like a chaver - one of the best things about the impreza is itself in standard form- it looks mint, is mint and is hard to beat car all round really
i was in halfords the other day and bought a video on the histroy of the impreza for £12 - very good vidoe and i highly recommend it!
