Is the Scoob becoming a boy racer's car!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts please guys, I love my Scoob but I'd hate to think it was going down the same road as the Nova's Corsa's etc.
Cheers
Colin

It certainly already is. You get get an old WRX for 4k ish now, and these ****s dont bother insuring them.

Ive seen a few baseball hatted toothless ****s driving them :) Not to stereotype or anything :D

I suppose now that the older classics can be had for just a few grand, then yes, the younger, less tasteful and discerning types may well buy them.

On the other hand, they'll still hang around outside McD's every night, leaving the country lanes and pubs to those who know where the road out of Chavsville is.

jjones 13 February 2004 09:43 AM

lmao at that logo :D

Scoob99 13 February 2004 09:44 AM

Oh well might as well go get my S type R V8 Jaguar then:D

corradoboy 13 February 2004 09:48 AM

It's the 3rd time I've posted it, and I'm waiting for my telling off :D

jjones 13 February 2004 09:54 AM

saved it to the hdd :D

maybe we could have a poll and get that tacky fake carbon fibre effort that the mods came up with replaced with your one.

ScoobyDean 13 February 2004 09:58 AM

Oh god here we go again.
This thread will start an argument again.

By Boy racer do you mean boy racer, or do you mean young people in general? Coz a hell of a lot of people on here seem to get the two mixed up. It's not fair to think that young people should'nt own scoobs. Not saying thats wot your saying or anything, but i know some people on here do.

I'm 23 & own a MY00 UK PPP which I paid a lot of hard earned cash for. I dont wear Burberry, or hang about in maccies car parks. Suprisingly enough I am a car enthusiast just like you 'elder' guys n gals.

Sorry for the rant, it just annoys me when all young people get tarred with the same brush.

Green 13 February 2004 10:03 AM

...knobs are knobs whatever car they drive!...once the availability and price comes into reach they'll own it...check the Merc 190E for instance!

Scoobychick 13 February 2004 10:16 AM

I even hear that women are buying scoobs now  it's a slippery slope... :D

NACRO 13 February 2004 10:20 AM

Impreza saloon with gold wheels and a huge spoiler- is a 100% Chav/Ned scum car these days. All you need is some Burberry seat covers, a shopping list of part suppliers down the side of the car and of course neons to give it some bling bling down your local crooz with the rest of the scum.

image doctor 13 February 2004 10:20 AM

I don't think its a boy racer car.

More a "council estate car"

The doc has spoken

Green 13 February 2004 10:24 AM

...not a doctor of sociology then?!!

Nevetas 13 February 2004 10:25 AM

I got mine in 1998 and I was just 18.

Was the only one down Sarrrrrrrfend at the time.

But now it's a pee take, last time I went down there, they arn't just in 'classic' they were in Brand New 03 cars, with burberry hat's, Nichoson tops, and yes even Pink Neons.

At one point I was 4 New Look scoobs in a row, all booming out drum n bass. I only saw 5-6 Nova's and I saw atleast 12 scoobs down the front.

It's really putting me off buying another one, coz I know I'll get raced by Burberry boy at every set of lights. I was going to buy a Spec C Ltd in September, but I just can't afford all the designer clothes I will need to be seen in it.

Victims of there own success, even my mate has a scoob and he's JUST passed his test, daddy picked up the insurance tab, and now he cruises the front *every* night just booming out his tunes.

So, in answer to the question, YES it has become a boy racer car, and YES I do still want a new one ;) ;)

ALso saw 3 Evo VI's down the front, with burberry boys in, so they arn't excluded...

===WRX=== 13 February 2004 10:28 AM

quote "Skyline or and evo"

both are as bad as the scoob these days..Skylines can be had for 5K, and a Mitsu-$hitty is fast becoming the choice of the rep scum and sunday rallye wannabes

Evo the new vectra

mutant_matt 13 February 2004 10:46 AM

JJ, you need help mate ;) :p :D I think you need to get over your Burburry obsession :D

Who cares is all I can say, I still enjoy driving mine so just do my best to ignore everything else about it (not just the image, costs, insurance, security worries etc. etc.)

Remember, this happens to most good cars as they become cheap but in time, they usually come out the other side as a semi-classis - look at the 205 GTi and the Cossie now, they both went through the phase the Scoob is going through and now everyone wants one (well, almost everyone ;) ).

Matt :)

Have to agree with this one. It was bound to happen as the cars get older and therefore cheaper.......I for one couldn't give a cr@p....I love mine and thats it! :D

Paulo P 13 February 2004 11:00 AM

Love that logo :D

Sadly the scoob became a boy racer car a few years ago but the majority of scoobs don't look boy racerish (apart from the ones with lexus lights  )

I remember a purple one with no door handles etc in Redline a few years ago and I think it started there :(

I wouldn't worry about it too much at the moment.

C 13 February 2004 11:01 AM

Becoming? bit late there - dont you mean already become :D

Evo the new vectra
Thats funny! You can actually get a Skyline for less than 5k, but it looks pants & couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding they are that bad, thats like comparing an STi Type R with a GL (not even a Sport)

I forgot about all those boy racers steaming around in Evo 5's & 6's & Skyline GTR's

Steve Whitehorn 13 February 2004 11:03 AM

Agree with Matt about the cossy thing.
I recon scoobs will slowly pop out the otherside and become a classic like the cossy in a few years. And like a cossy an untouched/non moded car will be very rare and will fetch a premium. Probably a UK car too.

If hypothetically you were building a museaum and filling it with cars that broke new ground in some way. Then it would have cars like the Mini, MK1 Golf GTi, perhaps 1.6 205Gti, Audi Quatro, The first serrea, The cosworth, A scooby etc. This is just a feel for the cars you would preserve and you would want to display origional examples. So my advice to anyone with a classic scoob, even if you mod it keep all the origional bits because if you bolt all these back on one day it will go up in value. Scoobs aren't that common and over the years engines will blow and Mr burberry will wrap them round lampposts. So hang on to them.

Steve

It is the origional untouched classic that will be the most valuable one day.

borich 13 February 2004 11:07 AM

Im a young classic driver, had my car at the turn of 21 when i could finally afford the insurance, Not once have i decided to spend an evening hanging about in car parks or going out to race, but i guess with the price dropping some elements of boy racers will pick them up. but then id like to see them try and afford to run them, bit different from owning a nova..

...there's still not enough Imprezas in the country for Haynes to do a manual, so maybe there's hope yet!

...except for the fact you can't get a Haynes manual that is!?!

nigsy 13 February 2004 11:15 AM

It cracks me up that EVO drivers think they are immune to this !! Where I live (in the south east) there are at least 5 EVO's and apart from a pipe and slippers character, there seems to be a lot of baseball caps, white trainers and socks (nice) and tasteful gold chains.......even scum can get loans !!
Mind you, they probably think they can pop down the local vauxhall garage for the parts.

Don't you mean the 205 1.9 GTi? ;) ;) :D :D (much better than the 1.6!)

Matt :)

Geddon 13 February 2004 11:25 AM

I happened to see a bugeye scoob on the front page of max power yesterday- nuff said.
Personally I don't care- I bought mine for the performance not for how it looks (although I do like it:)) or how loud the stereo goes.
