Re the groupbuy.

I've not given up hope yet, still waiting for a couple of people to get back about shipping. I'm hoping a friend who imports from the USA will give the name of his shipper.

It is a replacement short block (inc. Block, Crank, pistons and rods). It should be a straight replacement for the 2 litre block. You just swop everything from the 2 litre to the new block and drop it in
Bit simplified but that's about it!!

I should have some news very soon on importing.
One supplier has reduced the price also to around £750. I just need a shipping company to step forward with a good deal and this is rolling.

For goup buys like this that are exrtemely complex, requireing a lot of work, skill, and pesonal risk, don't you think there should be 'something in it' for the head threader? If I can get the exact kit I want delivered to my door at the right price, I wouldn't have to do anything more than write a cheque. And for that service, I would be happy to bung an extra ton to the person who made it all possible. Worth a though?

The alternative is to go it alone, take all the risk and hours of resarch, telephone calls and emails, only to end up with the wrong item.

Just a thought to get this train moving

Richard

Work is taking much more of my time at the moment, so things have been slow.
My friend has returned from the USA this W/E and I'm hoping I can use his shipper and distributor to import these. If not I've been given a couple of numbers to ring.
Should have a better idea tomorrow or Wenesday.

Exchange rate is getting better every day
Yes, I think the group buy leader should have some recompense for his/her efforts :-)
Perhaps Mark could swing a "buy 10 get one free" deal
I do that with my turbo's.....lol

Yes it will fit a MY95 top end. All you need are gaskets and I'd recommend a new oil pump.

A big Thanks to Paul for giving me the number for Shipco. They faxed me with costs for shipping door to door and its a very reasonable price.

A rough guess using figures supplied by shipco, Subaru US and adding 27.5% import and vat will see these shipped to one location in the UK for between £1040 & £1100 dependant on the numbers involved in the groupbuy.

I am waiting for a friend to give me a price using his company and distribution company which would be easier and include delivery to multiple addresses.

Sounds pretty good Mark, see your doing alot of work.

If you can get the other company to ship to multiple addresses, that may save you lots of hassle.

So say

£750 for 2.5
£75 for 10% import tax
Total now £825
Vat at 17.5% is £145
So thats about £970

So it must work out around £130 (based on the £1100) on each engine which is pretty damn good.

If it goes to one address though, you will have to ship it out which might be a pain. But even if this is done - say around £50 to send out an engine??

Means you will get the 2.5s at around £1150 which is

Just make sure you get the shipping done to your house (or the individuals house) as some companies prefer to ship it to your nearest airport to keep the cost down. But then works out you got to pay for delivery to your house and becomes a nightmare! Lol

Import duty is only 4.2% (classification code 8407349900), which is due on the item cost, shipping and insurance. VAT of 17.5% is then due on top of all that.

These would be shipped in a container by boat, hence the reduced shipping price compared to air freight.

I've marked up the price very slight just incase I've missed some thing out. I also believe that you would pay import and vat on the shipping costs. Two lumpsum payments need to be made in the US & UK docks for handling and documentation.

I'm seeing my import mate on Thursday night so hopefully he will have another price to compare this one with. Finally the last option would be for me to hire a van collect these from the docks (UK) and do a deliverly run. This would reduce the finally price by about £25. I was quoted £95 (£50 LS & £45) for the single deliverly drop and presume if multiple drops were required then it would be a further £45 per engine. Or you could collect it yourself.

Jlang, does 4.2% depend on certain items? Everything ive imported has been 10%?? Or do you think that includes all the charges and handling fee?

Because it's a short engine and not a bare block, it's categorised in the same way as fully built-up engine. The rate on those is 4.2%. I'd imagine it's best to declare it up-front to avoid getting charged higher rates.

I would say 6 speed is only worth doing if your going over 350 torque
