Last one was pretty quick, a month maximum. I have a better idea this time and should run smoothly.
I will be buying another engine for myself with this groupbuy.

S600HBY e-mail on the above.

Hi .... will the short engine fit my Sti5 head? Is there any potential gotcha with the manifold/exhaust/gaskets/bolts? What's the recomended RPM & BHP for this engine?

Where can I get a workshop manual to do this stuff ?

Oh, and when is the 6sp gearbox (used!) group buy commencing - as I is gonna need one

Ok the supplier is ready and waiting for a 2nd groupbuy. I need/have space for a couple more buyers. I will close this GB @ 21st May, sooner if I get a large interest ie greater than 10.

Any ideas on what extra costs i would be looking at immediately. Don't mind the extra expense in the long run, just wodering what would be needed now. It would be going in a 94 wrx sti with full decat and induction kit. Clutch has just been changed as has the fuel pump.

U WOT

IMHO I would retain your heads (I tried to find some cheap STi3 ones but they seem rarer than hens teeth). A number of people are using standard UK heads and its not hurt there power output. If you were in a quest to build a tarmac monster then either STi heads or UK heads flowed with Kent or Piper cams. A Hybrid FMIC (classic only unfortunately) Gruppe-S headers, injectors >550cc & f/pump. Turbo wise I'd speak with Andy F or Lateral Performance about something like the Forced Performance FP30 or the Ion P650 and finally a mapped ECU by somebody world famous.
This work does not need to be done in one hit I've/am spreading it out over 2 years.

Additional cost include new oli & water pumps and ?ARP head bolts.
And remember that all the extra strain takes it toll on ancillary components

I'm sure others will tell you different but this is my view

will the standard 2L starter motor turn the bigger engine over alright and if so how long will it last?

just with you making a point about engine parts etc, and what about things like water pump and oil pump? are they all the same or different?

I'm so tempted to spend my double glazing money on this, but......................

and theres so many buts....................

An engine build is never cheap but I think that for the money the 2.5 makes an excellent starting point. It has its tuning limits just like any other engine. What I wanted was a "cheapish" alternative to the JDM sti motor with added bonus of extra cc and the ablility to produce big torque and BHP. A standard WRX short motor must cost @ £800 from subaru at the moment. Once installed I will slowly tune the engine by adding larger a turbo etc and hope to achieve 450bhp.

I think the start motor is more than capable of compressing an extra 125cc, turbo engines tend to have slightly lower CR than NA engines.

These engines use standard phase 2 oil & water pumps in the US the same place car manufactors test hot running conditions. I can't see this being an issue unless you're planning a Le Mans entry ?

People will say I biased so I suggest you ask someone like John Banks or have a look in the project section and speak with someone who's experienced a 2.5litre turbo. This is basically the same engine "configuration" as used in the T25 (Which Autocar were very happy with).

Unfortunately only 5 gaskets sets delivered but will have more with the next GB. Anybody not desperate to put yours in ASAP please let the others who are have first shout. I've also give up my engine and will take one of the second GBs as someone was desperate for one.
Collections can begin ASAP call me on my mobile number today or work tomorrow.
