Rake: Is it that important?

Don't actually know, but they have a web site. I think the area is in sections, so maybe I can get a quiet corner to myself as things will get embarrasing!

i read this thread with interest, even if i perhaps didn't understand all of it due to lack of experience with rwd etc.
I would like to humbly suggest North Weald airfield in Essex as a venue. The instructor there is Andy Walsh, web link is
http://www.carlimits.com
Car limits also covers Llandow (sp?).
I had a lot of fun with my standard 02 WRX.
Contrary to some information on other threads, you don't to have a group of people to book, i have always just called and booked myself on whatever day had a space on a 4 person day.
You might want a two person day if you wanted more driving time in your car or perhaps a one person day might be economical compared to other venues?
The day has a loose but controlled format and the instructor teaches to whatever the appropriate individual level (for me anyway) and will adapt to any specific requests. The instructor appeared capable of demonstrating/teaching in any car that people bought along, e.g. 4wd, rwd front engine, rwd rear/mid engine etc.
Perhaps some of the other posters may or may not agree with this venue suggestion in light of their wider experience but it was good enough for me and i plan to take my track car there for a shakedown when i finally get it ready.
-no connection with car limits apart from that i went 3 times last year and will go again.
hope this is of some use, calder
edited to correct the link

Thanks Calder. Essex is a long way away from me, especially in a gas guzzler like my STi, BUT, this is the kind of thing i need to max the performance of my STi.

911, i thought north weald might be some way from west midlands and thinking about it, bedford is probably on the way.
I do remember however that there is a BP station and a Shell petrol station opposite each other on the road a few miles from North Weald - and i suppose none of us bought Imprezas for fuel economy!
good luck whatever you do.

Graham, Don Palmer does his stuff at Bruntingthorpe Airfield(Leics), allegedly just 45 minutes away from Brum. He really does know his stuff and should not be mixed up with any of the less experienced or skilled people (as above). He will cost more, but will do exactly what you want - so if for instance you say I want to learn very high speed trail braking and to make the scooby oversteer consistently, or just to learn exactly where the limit is and what happens over it, then he'll deliver that over the day. i did it with two other people and it was one of the best value modifications I could have made....
