The whole problem with these spaces, m&b and disabled is that they appear to provoke an aggressive response with the parking public who don't fit the criteria because they feel as the spaces are nearer the store the m&b and disabled are getting some kind of special treatment.

Of course the true disabled will benefit from this as will the mothers/fathers trying to carry/herd a child into the store in the least possible distance.

As I've said before on other threads and also above in Pavlo's thread, simply being able to park in a space wide enough to open the door fully is a gift in modern car-parks.

Personally if this could be guaranteed at every car-park then the distance of these spaces wouldn't really be an issue to me.

Others should digest this and think themselves lucky they have a choice.

TMO I think that i far too broad a generalisation, my own fiance has a badge, and on good days, looks perfectly normal...but when not soo lucky wont see the light of day from a hospital bed. I admit there are those that con the system but alls I can say is dont judge a book by its cover.
On a lighter note though when I take my fiance shopping etc , if she is well then I make her walk, as were always parked as far away from every other car as possible LOL

When my granny qualified for an orange badge (2 hip replacements), she would still park in normal spaces, "as someone less well off might need one of the disabled spaces". That's the spirit this country is missing some of the time.

As for parking across two spaces - I've done it loads of times since buying a GTO, and once I was told that I had to park between the lines, or face paying double the cark park fee. Luckily the car park bloke saw my point of view, and told me that two floors up there were no cars, and they would keep an eye on my motor for me!!!

The "2 spaces" thing is another anger incitement act for some. You will find someone will resent you doing it and more than likely let your car know somehow.

The folding mirrors thing is a myth too. You imagine that if you fold them in then you provide more space between the cars either side, therefore reducing the chances of contact.

What it actually does without fail is provide more space for trolley weilding maniacs to squeeze between your car as you kindly presented them with a slightly better chance of doing this.

Visit Golders Green and Finchley... Some Doctors made a load of money arranging permits. They are all middle aged women who play tennis evryday at the John lloyd Center then a little luch followed by major shopping spree!!!!!

All of them as fit as hell. The system is Krap.It need looking into.

Re the "mums-to-be" spaces - mums-to-be need these as they have to open the car door fully to get out. Same as with the parent/child spaces - you need to have the car door fully open to reach in to put the kids in their seats.
There are 2 problems with car parks - the first is the total disregard for other people's cars. I've had people ding my Scoob with me sitting in the fecking thing, and when I made a fuss, I got a "so what" response... The second thing has been mentioned already - people abuse the parent/child and disabled spaces because they're generally next to the store entrance. If supermarkets put them further away, with "normal" spaces by the store entrance for people to fight over, there wouldn't be such a problem.

A tesco near me has an attendant who will fine you if you park in 2 spaces or take up a disabled /mother and babby space.

spoon, logiclee, couldn't agree with you more. Would be great not to need the badge, but I do , and I use the spaces WHEN possible. I to need a larger space to enable me to get in and out of car properly. Trying to get out of car in an 'ordinary' space not easy. I use them 'cause I'm entitled to do so.

Not really on topic, but annoying - the Tescos in Selby is one of the old 1970's style ones, and the parking spaces look like they were marked out for Morris 1000's, and Triumph Dolomites. You want to try getting a Legacy GTB to even fit within the lines, let alone have enough space to open the doors...

But then, the Safeway opposite has wider spaces, but they're too short for my bus of a Subaru - so I end up risking having the bumper swiped off.

It's so refreshing to occasionally go and park in my Renault 5, which fits perfectly, and I can open the (shorter than modern car) doors plenty wide enough in ordinary spaces.

Just over a year ago, my dad was critically ill in a birmingham hospital.
I parked in their pay and display car park when it was almost empty.
Unfortunatly, i was there for 20 hours. During that time the car park filled up and emptied again a couple of times.
On one occasison, i took a walk outside to get some air and noticed in the car park that some old kna**er was parked next to my scooby.

When i left the hospital my dad had passed away.
The following day, i noticed a small dent in one of my rear doors.

Now, its only a small dent, but each time i see it, it reminds me of when it happened







On another note...

A few months ago i had parked in my local asda car park, well away from other cars.
While walking to the store, i saw an empty space near the front of the store, and thought someones in luck
Just then an old dear drives past me and sees the space and swings straight in diagonally.
I said to my misses, she's not going to leave it like that is she. A few seconds later, both doors swing open and the driver and her freind climb out[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
I dont think there was any contact with the other cars, but i just could not believe the way she left the car parked

Surely the bottom line is:

- disabled spaces are for disabled people
- M&B spaces for mother and baby/child/kid
- whether new or old car, it doesn't matter, equal rights etc. the age of the car doesn't detract from the fact it is somebody elses property.

AND MOST OF ALL - PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE MORE B***DY CARE WHEN PARKING AND GETTING IN AND OUT OF THEIR CAR!

I've spent a small fortune on dent repair cos inconsiderate or jealous people.

On a lighter note, the newer car parks in Birmingham seem to have more space, but you really have to pay for it though. Still, can't have everything. The Bull Ring car-parks are extortionate: but there's loads o room.

Like i said, its a pretty small dent.
During the summer months, the car gets a weekly wash.
Thats when i notice it. When its all shiney, and you look down the side

It just reflects the lack of respect and care taken by a minority of ignorant *****.
When forced to park in a less than ideal spot, i always take care when opening my car doors, ie... hold onto it to prevent it even touching the car next to it.

And yes, i have plenty of good memories to look back on

The spaces should be like the ones at COSTCO which have double lines to mark the gap between spaces, this makes it easy for everyone. Whilst I agree that all cars old/new cheap/expensive should all be treated with the same respect it unfortunatly doesnt work like that and some people dont give a hoot about damaging your pride and joy, and what car they drive doesnt seem to matter ive seen people in really expensive mercs etc still whack another car in a car park.
Think that on here we will always be a bit biased as we are enthusiasts, we wouldnt be here if we were not.

Also if someone keys/scrathes your car for parking in two spaces whats the difference between that and the dent they both require a respray and filling etc, they both also hack me off.
