hi folks, have posted a similar thread in the general section but not 1 reply...so thought i would come here!
Have been thinking of buying a scoob for a while now, but have only managed recently to get the funds together.
I have a repmobile for day to day driving , and just want something to inject a bit off adrenaline into the system at the weekends. Don't expect to be doing many miles, so think a sti 5 type r would be perfect. If i can get the right low mileage model at the right price, even though most of the time she would be sitting in the drive with the cover on, at least it would not be losing the same money as a newage model.Colour wise preference is for sonic blue.Based in N.ireland so prob going to have to travel a bit to get the right one.
Just wondering what the opinion would be on going for one with around 40k on it, some mild tuning, or whether to hold out for a lower mileage model that's maybe standard?
Any help appreciated!

 

Your useage would be the same as mine its a toy for me. I think you may struggle finding one with less than 40k on though. Its not unheard of mind i think there are a few tucked away. Get the latest model you can afford not neccessarily any better but id say better resale value.

well i have been told of a 1999 sti 5 type r with 15k on the clock and full history, imported new with 1 owner. Still got the original wheels plus the japanese tyres on(need replaceing). No mods and apparantley "in new condition". At the same kind of price 40k models are being sold for.
What power do the type r's have as standard?
Maybe going for an original example is not the way to go? Buying a car with a few mods saves a few pound????

On the hunt for a new v.6 v.ltd. Anyone heard of one for sale recently? Found a handfull of fives but ideally want a six. Also found v.6 RA v.ltd but want to stick with the type r.

Also, what are your thoughts on the continual drop in value of scoobs and do you think this will hit the 22b's aswell? Think im going to go for a 22b if a direct replacement for no.520 cant be found.......

To be honest i've only had it a couple of months so i have no intention of selling it, but hey everything has a price, and i don't know who gave you the used car price guide but you'd be dreaming to find one like that [fair play if you do], was he on fairy dust at the time of the statement?

 

very clean car.ive just bought my v6 type r with 48k on the clock with lots of mods for 11k.so they can be found,but i have been looking for about a year.

 

i still think a type r meet would be cool...

 

I have already spoke to the owner on the phone, trying to arrange a viewing. He bought it brand new from an importer in 99 and has used it as a weekend car. Claims its in mint condition, just needs a new set of tyres as the original jap ones are on their way out. It actually also has the roof vent, so is it the RA??

BUT...i am actually thinking that maybe the best and most financially sensible option is to go for a slightly modded car with more miles. Not sure though, as 12k is a good budget and could even buy a Evo 6.

 

Sounds like a good one.... has the engine been rebuilt or am i incorrect in thinking all the engines are a timebomb just waiting to go off?

 

my engine is the original but i think your right all type r's are a time bomb,as my mates type r (simb 2)is one of the best looked after subaru's ive ever seen he does everything by the book never cuts corners,and his bottom end let go,so im just waiting now and the more miles i do the better,you cant do anymore than that.

 

Is it not just the V5 with the dodgy ECU?, i was lead to believe it is the same as the P1, and we know how good that is, look throught the trader 70% have probably had new engines.

If it goes it goes but i'd rather it gave me a chance to save some money ready......for the 2.2

 

Sounds like a Ltd to me, even more reason to get it!

and whats the differences between a standard type r and a Ltd? Apart from the roof vent? He says it has abs, and airbags......i was under the impression that the type r's had none of these.

 

WRX Type-R STi V-Ltd is the same as the WRX Type-R STi but just the Roof Scoop (V6 had blue seats and dash). They have DCCD, therefore no ABS.

WRX Type-R V-Ltd is the same as the WRX Type-R but with just the roof Scoop. They have ABS and no DCCD.

All the models have Airbags with passenger Airbags as an optional extra.

Don't V limited's have a higher 5th gear ratio compared to the regular g'box? - so better for motorway cruising. I believe there's also things like colour coded door handles and side skirts and so on with the V limiteds.

My v6 V-LTD has pink STI wishbones and red spec c suspension, is this not standard on the V-LTD's?

 

Dont know about the Gearbox Just looked at the Original Brochures. No mention. The STi Type-R's certainly have the close ration Group N Gearboxes.
All the Type-R's come with colour coded side skirts, door handles etc.

Only the STi's have the pink STi suspension.

 

My Version 6 definately has a longer 5th Gear compared to the Version 3 Type R i had. Regards the wishbones they should be Shiny ally ones

Yes, the ver6 v.ltd has a taller 5th gear. I think all the STi's had pink suspension but the v.ltd might have been different. Mine sits 30mm lower than the std STi setup and was a factory fitted item. Maybe just an option....
