The End of Phase 1 ... The beginning of Phase 2

Carlos been there done that, I went thro' all this with the STi5 including spending megga bucks on the Sti intake pipe which works very well. the point about all this is to demonstrate practically what can be achieved step by step, there is no point in just sticking everything on at once, I know that would get a result but I want to show what does what, that way people have a choice of level and cost expectation to go with it.
I could also have done it and kept it all to myself, some things I obviously have relating to mapping etc but, all the rest is obvious mods that are carried out on most cars, thing here is how good is the STi9 at receiving them.
Cheers for the input though its much appreciated.
Jon thanks for that I will ring you if I really get stuck, its a time thing, haven't got any at the moment.
cheers

Bob, IMHO the samco clamping onto the standard induction hose is not the best solution, it is creating a step which will cause turbulence, would be better to use a metal piece which reduces down gradually to the intake pipe diameter. As for the intake pipe being restrictive, probably not as the early APS cars ran 500HP with the standard intake pipe and lower boost than 1.5bar. May be better to fabricate a cold air type box round the filter to reduce turbulence and keep out warm air. Just thoughts....

There is no point getting that refined for as long as the std turbo is on, this is about minimal mods to this level. Keep it simple and cost effective.
As mentioned there are a million things that I can do and once I change turbos the gloves are off, up to this point its about bang for buck, thanks for the thought though its appreciated.

Not on my car but I have mapped a MY02 WRX with one last weekend, no major problems, need to cross check with mine though. Was as per the pic above but same pipe bore as the air box.
Marcus email me at rbr@brdevelopments.com for info.
I'm now compiling an "exhaust list", I have a note of most people who have expressed interest and they know who they are however a short mail of confirmation would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi Bob
Good thread, I'll be playing with my own JDM twin scroll (engine) shortly and this has been very interesting indeed.
Are you of the opinion that you've pretty much reached the end of the stock turbo now?
Cheers

Hi Simon, I think the answer is yes, the twin scroll is doing very well but at the level I want its up to its limit, opening out the induction helped the 6k upwards rpm range significantly but it has a tendancy to liveleness in the low/midrange that is bordering on the ridiculous and its not easy keeping the spool rate at a sensible level. So I need to get the car down to Uxbridge for a final check then it will be coming off.
GM, "Prodrive shock" ... where do you think the next PPP is going to come from, R&D start early else its not effective ... lol

I thought that would be the case Bob, I have a 76mm intake system in place, did not even bother with the stock one, the 76mm pipe just fits under the manifold, it's a lovely straight turbo entry (as you obviously know) just push one of the steel fuel pipes down a few mm's and it slots in. Don't like the hot water supply pipe's right up against the bottom though, I may ceramic coat the 76mm or reduce to 70mm pipe an add some lagging
Have you been running a thermocouple on the turbo exit during your testing?
When you fit a three port do you still use the restrictor?
Cheers

For those of you that want to follow in Bob's foot steps with the induction kit I have a similar samco hose (needs the elbow cutting off) and filter / cone arrangement as the one Bob has used here (Roger Clarke Item) Its in the "for Sale Section
Cheers
Keep up the good work Bob.

Computes easily, I've got a twin scroll turbo on my classic.
The sump pan and headers are a direct fit, turbo then goes straight on. Only remotely irksome part is getting a custom downpipe made, and then getting the thing mapped.

I have the complete 2003 JDM STi twin scroll mechanicals in the 92 (umm but not the JDM 6MT ratio's, I'm using my UK 6MT ratio's instead)
I'll get some piccies at the weekend, it's all work in progress, might find it interesting, ummmm not trying to hi-jack Bob's thread, only came on to ask some Q's...
Cheers

Hey Simon, you should suggest this to Prodrive as a limited-run production car.
I'd imagine that a classic shape bodyshell with the 2003 JDM STI powertrain would be close to the dream roadgoing Impreza for many folk.
Hell, if you did it in a 22B-type wide track/two door shell, you'd be getting most of the SN regulars putting their wives, sisters, daughters and grannies on the game to buy one!

Well yea it's all in there, UK 6MT, JDM DCCD-A, the whole works. Strangly enough I like the 22B / WRC body conversion idea too
Call me a twit but I've had this dream for about 3 years now of doing 200mph like Jun did, it's all starting to come together now...

David, if you want to fit a Subaru OEM twinscroll setup you need to order the following bits:
exhaust manifold assembly with up-pipe & gaskets
oil pan, dipstick & oil pump pickup tube
downpipe
turbo oil feed line
turbo lower coolant hose
IHI twin scroll turbo

yea, I saw those at SEMA, kind of nice, but then thought, why? At the end of the day the factory part meets OEM std's and has passed full engineering sign-off, that part looks great but you have no idea how good it's going to be. I'd always use factory parts first if at all possible, it's usualy just "fit and forget"
