still not solved it for me then..

4 doors ain't necessary, but top laugh is! might have to wait for the Solberg (if its top spec)or import a spec C and sod the company car tax. Doesn't look like i'm saving my dough for a rainy day!

I may be being ignorant here, but if you are buying your own (second-hand) car, why is the Tax a problem? ....surely you are buying it with money that has already been taxed. I thought the problem would be with a new "company" car that was supplied to you for free?

whats the difference in car tax then between your list? to be honest i never noticed, its like people say when you buy a car for that sort of money, you cant start moaning about 20 quid extra on car tax, or 40 quid a week on optimax just imho of course

The problem is because if you run your own business and you buy ANY car through your company you then also have to pay personal tax on it as well.

I had exactly this problem my accountant calculated the whole thing out to approx. £1,600 per month with depreciation, tax etc. hence I paid myself a dividend and bought it privately.

Hence if working for someone else and you/your business hasn't had to fork out the reddies to buy it in the first place company cars are still a cheap way to have a nice car.

I think the Spec C is fantastic but it's criminal that we don't get the top spec cars officially. People keep buying the lower spec cars for more cash than they are in Japan.... why would IM spec up the cars when people keep buying the lower spec version

Your thread seems to suggest the P1 is a company car? If so, buy it from them/ the leasing company and opt out of the car scheme, if you can, taking cash instead. Private plate on the P1 and run it for ever (much cheaper than spending £27k on a new motor and keeps the smile on your face!).

The Leon Cupra is a nice car, the missus brought 1 6 weeks ago and is alot of car for the money, especially if you compare it to the equivilant VW golf, it has 225bhp and can be chipped to 260bhp for £500 using a "Revo" software download, they come with all the electronic stuff like abs, traction control, brake distribution etc etc, so front wheel drive isn't a problem but as someone else said they are not geared as low as scoob's so 0-60 is a second or two off depending what spec your scooby is, fitted with a tracker, climate control, 6 disc cd, 18" wheels, Brembo brakes aswell. If your lucky you might find a good deal out there, we did, we got £2k off list price and got it in 3 days in colour and spec we wanted.
They are just about to release a 150bhp diesel turbo version (same engine as the vw golf pd150 gti)that gives 50+mpg which is good if you do long distances.

And if you drive in heavy traffic everyday it doesn't matter if you drive a car with 225bhp or 500bhp(or 150bhp diesel)you all travel the same speed in heavy traffic, just costs you less in a smaller car.

I also get a company car allowance. However, because the allowance is paid to me, it is taxed. It therefore does not matter what car I run. I suppose it depends if you get paid your allowance, or if the company allows you so much for them to still provide the car for you (if that makes sense?!).

I've thought about buying it off the company but would then leave me about 16K to do that. (less my own personal money already in the car)Then re-coup through the allowance each month circa 500 quid leaves me well out of pocket. It's better the company buys me another car and we part chop the P1 or the company sells the P1 and i buy something else myself and get the allowance.

£500 a month equates (at 40%) to £300 in your pocket.

But actually you're also saving yourself the tax on the company car - say £350 a month at present? i.e. £650 a month better off in reality. £7800 a year isn't a bad rate of interest on a £16,000 investment.......

(yes, I know, you have to factor in the cost of fuel, insurance, servicing etc - depends on your mileage and how keen you are to run the thing.....)

Buy the P1 off the company and get a Pick up for work(Mitsubishi L200 double cab) taxed as a van, taxable benefit 500 a year. You can drive round all week like some kind of cowboy and all weekend like a nutter. Best of luck with whatever decision you make.
