Get yer **** out,cut 2" off,coat in grease,slip it back in,JOB SORTED!!

 

By making the shift shorter you are only altering the lever point.If you alter it to much the rod connecting to the box can rub on the transmission tunnel.You can achieve the same effect by slightly altering the original lever.(shortening and redrilling the lever)

 

From SIDC's FAQ, it said, 'Note: On pre-'97 cars the gearbox was a single-synchro design, and so with a quickshift it's possible to "beat the gearbox"'.

Does anyone with a pre-'97 encounter any problem with the STi Quickshift?

Will the STi Quickshift give a firmer shift that the original shift lever give a rather loose feel?

I got a GGR quickshift for Christmas, followed Sunil's instructions and it all took 30 mins from start to finish. It certainly has sharpened up the change.

Good, i'll be sending both of you invoices for consultancy at an hourly rate of 150 notes plus VAT

 

For what its worth, i removed lever and had the bracket cut off and welded back on 20mm higher, this is on a MY94. Company's charge £100 for this option (a new lever), I knew this works because my brother bought one and we compared it during fitting, got a local welder to do the mod to my lever, £10, bingo one quickshift.

Like others I took the "discard the OE gear **** and replace with a new Momo one" route on my MY00.

It is similar to the one posted by igratton (though with more aluminium and less leather - called "Race air-leather aluminium" on the momo site) and cost £40 from Halfords.

It has noticeably shortened the shift action as a result of being 'stubbier' than the original one.

Works for me...

Just fitted a Falkland quickshift to a my00. Works very well - thanks Kevin!

Complete b*stard to fit though - took me 1.5 hours But this included having to file .5mm off the bottom of the shaft to allow the plastic ball to fit on correctly (modify the red design Kevin!).

I think Sunil mentioned earlier in the thread that two people is best to refit the lever.....I'd say it's pretty much a necessity, and my bruised hand proves it A set of drift pins (2.5-5mm) would also help (to remove the "ball-and-socket's" ball on the end of the lever).
