UK cars are great, but most of the arguments against Japanese imports are down to insurance costs (which I agree is a very valid point), not the actual cars performance or equipment. This is where imports obviously have an advantage. For example, I owned a MY98 WRX (non STI) which had the following over the equivalent UK car:

1) Colour coded mirrors and door handles
2) Electrically folding mirrors
3) Rear window wiper
4) Aluminium bonnet
5) Electric radio arial
6) Map reading lights
7) Height adjustable seats (did 98 UK cars have these - maybe?)
8) Climate control
9) Nice big sporty centre rev counter and 7500 red line
10) 276 bhp!

There may be more things I haven't listed but I can't think of much else. Not a bad list of 'extras' though and this is what swayed me towards the import. Each to their own, but no matter what Impreza you buy they are great cars.

I also think that Mr Lewis has issues about his own sexuality with his seemingly anti-gay stance
------------------------------------------------------------------

Indeed, I am the oldest shirt lifter in town!! Certainly NOT anti-gay ... just anti Gold Wheels ... it just happens that Gays drive cars with Gold Wheels thats all!!

Anyway, little idiot - with 15 posts, its time for your BeddieByes - you have school tomorrow!

Back on topic:-

2 adverts:-

Impreza UK car, 1 owner, MY00 (the best one!), average mileage, standard car, no mods, never raced, never tracked, full SUBARU Service History, top pedigree .... please form a queue!!

Impreza Sti Type 4A RA TT AA PPP Prodrive 6Pack i 16v Turbo (See how good it is with ALL those letters!), a few owners (I think in Japan, not sure who they were but the last one was called Hu-Flung-Dung), loads of mods, big bore exhaust, bigger scoop, neon lights on washers, rolling road BHP of 950!, yes its true! Raced within a mm of its life every weekend, track days a speciality, service history in Japanese, anyone?? come on - the mods alone cost me £30,595!! the car stands me at £55,000 ... yours for a bargain!! Please, someone?? why doesn't anyone want it?? someone MUST love it like I do?? Right, thats it - I'm off to moan on SN that no-one wants my Import

They are all queuing for that horrible slooooooooooow UK MY00 in the previous advert ..... why? I don't understand?? Derrrrrrr dribble down front of string vest

All IMHO of course!!

i've got a std my96 wrx which is suppose to have 260ps,run on sul,no booster, serviced by main dealer and got 260.1hp on the the dyno and been 100% reliable in the year that i've owned it
when i waslooking for a car i came on scoobynet and read all these threads slagging jdm's off and was a little put off,in the end the better spec engine/interior swayed me but surely all imprezas are o.k.....they all come from the same factory?

Cool

Same factory yes, but different lines!!!

The home market Imprezas don't have to last as long as the UK cars, therefore the JDM's are fitted with the out of tolerance bits from the parts bin.

Anyone in Engineering knows the story, parts are checked by inspection and 'graded' - the crap goes on the crap makes or those which don't have any spec on them or British Standard.

The best parts go on the lines that are approved and high quality

We all know that Japanese cars do not have to last beyond 3 years, so they get parts that will last that time but not much further! The UK's get the best spec parts.

The result can be seen over and over again in failed JDM cars, engines blow up, turbos pack in, it simply wouldn't matter in their market ......................... but some Bozzos over here buy them!!

Had a MY 00 for 18 month and they are great. Only problem I had was hesition, which was solved with a MY 99 (AE801) ecu.

Now have a MY 99 (RB5 WR) and the only difference between this and the MY 00, is a variable intermittant wipe. IMHO MY 00 are the best UK cars.

This thread is so funny BTW!!

NOPE!
i was actualy building the engines

putting the badge on was considerd a cushy number
and i dont build engines any more lol
i use a robot to spray the glue over the micra seat cusions lmfao

theres no top end management to consider pete, even a muppet like you could do that (although i doubt you have the stamina to carry out such a job for a proper working day)

when i 1st started i had to fit the drive shafts and tighten the engine belts, and i had to do that for 6 full weeks non stop

say 300 cars per shift, thats fitting 600 drive shafts per shift, 5 days a week for 6 weeks, you simply couldnt handle doing that without crying that your wimpy arms and hands couldnt cope

once i masterd that i was put on hub fitting, which was fine while in training, but then the build went up to near 400 cars per shift, and the line was moving to fast to enable me to use a crane to lift the hubs

so i was now doing 400 cars a shift, thats 800 hubs a shift, you try lifting a primera hub, without a crane, and do this with the callipers, brake discs, pin links and bottom arms and getting both sides on in under 60 seconds with the hub nuts torqued up and a split pin fitted, also dont forget to checkt he calliper bolts are toqed from the previous operator, and that the ball joint split pin is fitted

i doubt your feeble, windup merchant body could hande that mr lewis

you still know nothing lmao
how can a knowledge of top end management make cars disapear from one line and end up on another line soley for "out of tolerance bits"
LMFAO

grade A windup merchant
grade A ****
i vote ps lewis for president

If Japanese domestic market cars are not built to the same apparant high standards as a UK car then please explain Ford and Alpha Romeo to me, and many other non-japanese manafactured cars that have such high reliabilty and standards (I think not).
Surely, it is common knowledge that Japanese cars are more reliable than anything else.
Mr Lewis, d'you know what else will bite your ****, I don't even own an Imprezza! I am looking to buy one though - more specifically a UK spec turbo because of the Insurance costs and the fact that UK fuel is crap. And I want gold wheels!

Question

I don't know ..... I come back from having a life and what do I find? A bunch of Billy-No-Mates getting all hot under the collar!

Of course there are different lines for different markets!

Lets take an example shall we? I worked for Black and Decker on the production line - a real cushy job after working in the mines from the age of 13!

Anyway, we made drills and lawnmowers and other stuff with the B&D logo on ............... BUT, then we got a production run of 'other' machines to assemble with a different 'logo' on.

The same items made on the same production line - the SINGLE difference was that the other named product would sell for less in the market place and therefore had an expected shorter life span. Result? it got the inspection 'reject' parts assembled - NOT the complete cr4p but very nearly!!

Its all fair and reasonable too - if you have a shorter lifespan product you do NOT need to engineer top quality products for use in it!

So, the Imprezas are made in the same factory BUT the production runs are different ..... the JDM cars do NOT have to last for longer than, what? 5 years MAX? So they are built with parts that are slightly out of spec, ungraded, inspection rejects and so on.

I don't know why this doesn't make sense? It is absolutely solid, sensible, management ............. use up the cr4p parts on the JDM cars ... surely it is simple enough even for those with blinkers and a blindfold to see????? They don't care whether some mad Englishman buys it at 3 years old in the UK or not, do they now??

The Export cars are different however, they NEED to last 10 years without problems .... hence they get fitted with the best parts, at the tightest tolerances that they can afford.

In essense, a JDM car is the 'reject parts bin' on Gold Wheels ..... the UK is a solidly built piece of top engineering designed for a life of 10 years

Why else do JDM cars blow up so regulary???

Pete

If the JDM cars were branded as 'sangyong' or some random budget name, then that would make sense, but it isn't, it is branded Subaru, with a higher performance specification then the UK. How does that add up in your crazy logic mate?
I'd have though it more likely that the UK ones are failed WRX's that can't meet spec. It's the same thing that happens with computer CPU's, they are made to run at a certain clockspeed, but if they fail at that speed, they are re-branded as the next stable speed down and sold as a slower processor.

You plonka!! You just don't 'get' it do you??

Its a matter of LIFESPAN not brand name!!

The lifespan of a JDM only has to be 5 years - so, its built accordingly.

The UK cars are expected to last 10 years - so, THEY are built accordingly.

I know I am the bightest spark in the sparkle pack, but I don't know, some of you ain't even got the porch light on have you??

Chrome lettering S U B A R U on your boot lid. How tasteful...

Don't UK's all have airbags, even the old sheds? Now who is a puff. Jap cars never got them until much later and then it was only 'cos they are so damn fast it was essential.
