I had an MY 00 classic and was perfectly happy with it.........until I went in my cousins STI5. In my opinion chalk and cheese, but all down to preference. Bit of a fiddle with booster and things on an STI but bloody hell they do shift and have extra jaw drop appeal. But all scoobys deserve respect and an ickle wave as you go on past

NOW I see what a STi5 TypeRA thing is like!!
Its giving a lot of smoke from those tyres!!
I must say - it IS a lot different from my UK Impreza - I thought they were closer looking than that!
Do you get to choose the number before they import it? and why did you choose 53?
I have to say, it doesn't really look like its worth more than my UK version - but, hey! I guess you lot know better!!

Looks the same as mine now - wow well done, all those mods really DID do some good!!
Whats that trolley handle doing on the back? I sthat there to let the crane lift it off the track when you crash F1 style, without damaging your paintwork??
Is it an Ex-Japanese Police car? I see its got the panel over where the flashing bues lights would have sat? I suppose thats why it was cheaper than a proper UK car?
Nice 'PINK' badge too!! matches the poofta Gold Wheels!! ha ha ha - lucky its the wifes car eh? or the blokes down the sawdust and spit would really take the p1ss!!
Bedtime now!!

I dont care if its "known" as a grey import pete. As to value, it's worth more than a UK spec Impreza of the same year and condition. But so what, who cares
uk cars are getting no where near, history or otherwise
i wouldnt expect the earlier wrx`s to fare so well, but the high power ones can fetch really good prices againts a uk car of the same year
acording to the figures being knocked around the trader and importers, i have stuck 10 000 miles on my car and lost about £500 max?
i feel that with these new laws and stuff to stop the flow of imports, we might see the prices of the more desireble classics actualy increaseing

Pslewis said regarding sipie:
LMAO - As much as I don't really want to get involved in this little lovers tiff I have to step in and say its VERY unlikely you can outdrive sipie. Granted you could probably make bits last longer but that would just be boring
I may be senile BUT I can outdrive you obviously!

I've had my MY00 since 1st October and have been nothing but happy with it. I'll be the first to admit that its not as fast as my old JDM GTIR which with a little tweaking could take STIs to the cleaners.
However, I've since had a driving ban and have now got a family and mortgage and without an endless source of cash, my priorities had to change.
For me insurance on my UK turbo is £1000, for an import STI it was close to £1800 - no way will I pay more than £1000 for any car insurance as thats a rip off. A mate has a MY98 and pays £3,000+ but has a worse license than me.
Couple this with the fact that if I have to take a long journey I can get 30+mpg on the motorway (any fool can drive at 100mph in a straight line and whats the point on a motorway?) not something I could do in my R and not something I've heard an STI owner say.
I'm not slagging UK or JDM and if I had the cash without question I would have bought the nicest STI6 I could find with the most I could spend but for me the UK car is the best value for (my) money.
And why would MY00s be worst of the bunch? more power over previous UKs, better brakes, nicer interior(albiet flimsy as paper in the wind). IMHO MY00 would be the most wanted of UK cars in the future.

aperntly there trying to bring in a law where u need sum pretty expensive paperwork to sva a car
the problem is that theres a diffrent set of paperwork for every diffrent model
IE: wrx, wrx sti, wrx sti ra, etc etc, i cant rember all the details off the top of my head but i did read about it on these hallowed pages, and did cross refrance it with my local importer, there might be a chance that they will also be diffrent variations for MY years as well??
the importer did not know how they were going to tackle this @ presant and were waiting for the laws to come in, altough he said they had been meaning to bring the law in for quite a while, anybody else got any info?

Indeed, we all know that the MY00 will be the classic thats wanted all over the UK .... if its also not been p1ssed about with and is as standard as was Subarus idea then thats where the BIG money will be! Throw in a one owner model and FSSH and you have a diamond just waiting to be cashed in!!

Edd, MY99 cars had the more powerful phase 2 engine, the better 4 pots, etc of the MY00 car and the same front end and spoiler.
What they didn't have was colour coded mirrors and door handles, the aluminium effect (?) dash, map lights and the dubious ECU.
Ran a 99 for nearly two years and have yet to be in a standard 00 that drove as well.
Oh - and for some balance to the conversation My MY99 UK standard car might not have been the best car in the world, but it was a cracking piece of kit for the money.
If I'd been looking at the £25k to £30k mark at the time (new JDM money), I'd have gone with an Evo 6

JDM vs UK?
98 UK turbo vs Type R
STI8 PPP vs Spec C
Both no brainers.
UK cars are watered down versions of REAL Imprezas.
They are like low fat spread, diet coke, non alcoholic lager, low fat chocolate bars, toast without butter, a roast dinner without gravy, Pamela Anderson with an A cup.
They are just not right.

Typical response from an overpaid geeky IT manager who lacks a personality ............. are there ANY non-gay IT Managers out there??
I can just see POC now, getting his checked jumper all in a tangle - mummy will be sooooooo mad at you when you go home with a stretched pullover, especially when she made it for you!!

Yes, me. And my car has gold wheels too.
As for the actual thread - no, UK cars aren't bad. Horses for courses as some have already said. Mine (UK MY97 Turbo) is fast enough for my enjoyment, handles well enough (haven't gone through a hedge yet) and sounds good too.
I could have afforded an STi, but the added worries of having performance parts on it, that are attractive to thieves, plus the concern of having to run on Super Unleaded, outweighed the possible extra thrill of the better performance.
Besides, I doubt I get the best from my UK Turbo with my dubious driving abilities, and having extra oompf would probably lead to me crashing it!

I would guess from the childish ranting coming from mr lewis that he is actually only 12 years old, quite sad really.
On a more related note, Mr Lewis keeps making point that the Japanese models are bought by people who are too cheap to buy a proper impreza, ie UK car (i thought Subaru were Japanese, must be wrong) When nearly all jap import cars that are for sale are much higher priced than their almost equivalent UK brothers
I also think that Mr Lewis has issues about his own sexuality with his seemingly anti-gay stance

all done? thank **** for that, my mailbox is flooded
didn't really want my thread to turn into a slagging match, but there you go, so many people so many opinions.
guess this will kick off again when everyone gets in from work coz everyone thinks their car is better than everyone elses, but what makes a better car? to some quicker is better, others prefer a bit more reliability while others buy what they can afford, bit of an unaswerable question really but the comments over the last few days have been fun to read, cheers for the laughs
