No CATs but passed emission test???
WOW Mr Rannoch - you been on holiday?? I thought we had all sorted out that what I was saying was correct ... that a CAT equiped car, needing to meet the strict CAT MOT test, cannot pass the emissions test without one .. on that there is no argument
Turning to whether you have a grey import of dubious origin, history and age is a matter for the testing station - if they cant find it listed then they must test to a lesser limit - so you may then pass (that is NOT the same as passing the CAT test)
This is all so simple it is getting embarrassing - then again management consultants dont actually DO anything except tell others what they should do
Friends?

I dont know about the STI`s but on the WRX`s the middle section only contains a smoke box which is virtually straight through anyway. The cats (yes 2 of them)are in the down pipe from the turbo. Thus changing the middle section does`nt de-cat the car. As for the MOT most testing stations should be equipped with a machine capable of sensing a pulse from the injectors instead of a HT source. Using a different probe. My car was MOT`d this way.
Rannoch 'loads a money' then?? great
I was glad when Labour got in - I now get the minimum wage !!
Saved up for ages for my new scoobie bought about 2 months ago .. UK spec of course (I want a proper P/X value later)
Lend us a few quid then - the petrol bill is horrendous

Pete,
you know what they say...
those who can...do
those who can't...teach
and those that can't teach...consult
(and those who can't consult get jobs in quangoes as Government Advisers...
)
But isn't it amazing that reward is inversely proportional to ability (and how there are so many IT Consultants here who own Scoobs!!!!)

With the mid-section cat removed my car produced the following at idle:
HC 14 ppm (Limit in Greece is 150)
CO 0.05% (Limit 0.5%)
What kind of figures do you get on average by removing the cat in the downpipe as well? Both figures are an order of magnitude down so there seems to be quite a margin for experiments.
