Was paying a basic Premium of £826 a year on a 51plate Clio Sport with Direct Line. Believe it or not, when I changed to a MY03 WRX this only went up to £984!!
I am (only) 28, I do have 8yrs no claims, but also 3 points for speeding.
I know I pay a lot, but I did not bother to shop around (renewal due in April, I'll do it then), and I couldn't believe how little difference there was from the Clio.
(Did check on Elephant, but they quoted £1400!!)

2 years NCD, WRX PPP 03 and the cheapest quote I can get is £1350. I'm 32 and haven't claimed for > 14 years. Christ, my first Golf GTi only cost me £1500 to buy and £300 to insure; what's going on.

Just contacted the NFU ........ all done in the old way, by hand (pitchfork, maybe?) and someone will ring back! Could be interesting ...... I REALLY believe that they think I want to insure a Tractor! BRILLIANT!!
When will those clowns above learn that earning a decent wage does NOT equal spending loads when you don't have to! no wonder they will NEVER, EVER be anything more than clowns!
So? what will the NFU come back with?
Frizzell were too much, AXA wanted £466 - this has just got ridiculous!

Its defo cheaper to add a female to your policy as an occasional driver. If you have no partner, just pick a random female from the phone book, make up an age, give her a clean history and hey presto! She will never make a claim, so insurance wont know and if they do ask, just say you thought the strange woman might like to have a shot of your car some time!!

You're right, as I said above, just add any woman to your policy and watch that premium drop like a ****** nicks!!
John - fraud? and who will EVER find out? as she NEVER drives its NOT a material fact ..... truth is, when she was your girlfriend for an evening you promised to add her to your policy She can't remember? well, we were both drunk at the time - I just bet she said she didn't do the 'other' thing either!!
Just add your mum, aunt, niece, granny, neighbours girl to your policy and send me 1/2 of your profits!! Thank you all!!

By the way SAGA and help the aged are really expensive on the installment plans, not that I use them, BUT Help The Aged is about 29%APR ..... how can they stitch up the grannies like that???

I'm 31, got 7 years NCB and no points, and I only paid £550 FULLY COMP last year for myself and the wife who drives it 95% of the time!!
And that was with Norwich Union. I'll see what my renewal premium is like in January next year.. If it's £1600 then she'll be getting a £150 metro!
I'm 31 got 3 points and 7 yrs no claims and the quotes i've been getting are around £1600 add £700 on to include the missus.

"BUZZ" that was a quote from "Wilsons" on line quote service, they then have the cheek to email you after to ask if you have recovered from the shock of your quote and go onto saying that the online quote could be upto 50% more than i should be paying and ask you to phone them, whats the point of offering supposedly cheaper insurance online (due to less administration costs)if they then ask you to phone them as the online service is highly inaccurate. Obviously i know if i phone round i can get a much better deal elsewhere (we halved the cost with the missus Leon Cupra) but some people would'nt, if you were to base the choice of your car on the insurance quotes that some of these companies come up with we would all be driving round in ford 'KA's'.

Righty pslewis, so anybody that has to pay over £1000 (for example)
for their insurance and is insulted that you would moan about paying £15 more (than last years £380) when you apparently can easily afford it is a clown then?
The Alzheimers might be kicking in again mate, medication must be wearing off, buzz the nurse.

Thehut - please go back and re-read what I said! - I take it you DID do English at school? or haven't you left yet?
What I said, simply for you, means that why should anyone (regardless of wealth and earning power) pay MORE than they have to? Why can't the rich search for a better deal, why can't they moan because its gone up? ..... now, put that red nose back on and get out there - the kids love a clown!!
Anyway, back on topic - the NFU want over £500!!
This is just getting silly!!

Mmmmmmmm, still not quite with us here are ya.
"When will those clowns above learn that earning a decent wage does NOT equal spending loads when you don't have to!"
Since when does £15 added to your premium from last year suddenly make it loads of money.........F**KS SAKE!
I know your saying that it shouldn't have gone up at all and any saving is a good one but surely you can't say that you've been really hard done by?!?

This is why you are a clown and will NEVER earn proper money its NOT just £15 (bad as that is!) its £395!!
Now, personally, I think thats a LOT for a piece of paper!! After all thats all its been for over 10 years - which equals, to me, around £4000 for NOTHING!!
Think about it ..... and if you are paying more than £1000 a year you seriously need your head examined!!

OK, think your getting your knickers in a twist there.
For a start in the real world a raise in premium by £15 to £395 is not alot of money for insurance on a scoob to MOST people.
You of all people should know that since your droning on about being sooooo rich blah blah blah.
Secondly how the hell can you justify calling me a clown and telling me that I'll never get anywhere in life, all because you don't agree that it may seem a bit insulting to people who have to save for astronomicallly high premiums - not myself BTW but just trying to see it from someone elses view. If you remember I also said that I got the point of what youwere saying, just that it seemed a little over the top.
And lastly, you are effectively saying that anyone who is younger than yourself and HAS to pay high premiums needs their head examined, I think you'll notice there are quite a few people on this thread who pay more than a grand.......
Why just turn this into a slagging match don't you have anything constructive to say?
The thread was kinda light hearted before but you can step over that line if you want.

Doorman, really? - well I hope that you have a trakker fitted as they will not pay out otherwise!!
Thehut - this is for you - I will try my best to make it simple, though I doubt you will be able to understand, bless him eh? folks?
Thehut says:- 'For a start in the real world a raise in premium by £15 to £395 is not alot of money for insurance on a scoob to MOST people'
pslewis response:- Its 5% FFS!! when inflation is, what? 2%?? so its unreasonable ..... ignore the amount, THATS not in question - the % increase IS!
Thehut says:- 'And lastly, you are effectively saying that anyone who is younger than yourself and HAS to pay high premiums needs their head examined'
pslewis:- HAS to pay??? NO, sorry, they do NOT have to have a Scoobie! So, its a choice to have a car that demands a stupidly high premium ..... like I said, need their heads examined!!

Wow, it goes on still, you love to moan over nowt dont you pslewis.
Your going overboard when you don't pay alot for your insurance, never mind the rate of inflation.
Yup, it costs to run a scoob, I haven't complained about that, but it still doesn't mean that your not sounding like a **** to those who don't have such ease in paying the bills.
If you're THAT bothered by the increase in your insurance premium on the scoob or any of the other cars you drive that you have to go on and on and on incessantly then don't drive or shut up, simple as that.
