ironically, bill drummond was legendarily tight. met someone who worked for him and he would make sure invoices were produced for every tape, every cup of tea more or less.

It wasn't a stunt- it was art 
If nothing else it p1ssed off loads of people who'd much rather they had the cash rather than it being burnt to a cinder.
As for Bill he's a top man and anyone who doubts it needs to read "Bad Medicine" which he co-wrote with Mark Manning.
