You'll have to be a bit quicker Phil.

PS, wasn't having a go at Gary, every car is worth buying as long as the deal reflects what the car is and the back up your going to get. Just need to make sure no one is getting ripped off or told porkies.

I have recently returned from cyprus with my 2001 impreza, purchased in cyprus. It is the same as the UK car minus the Cat 1 alarm, it has the same underseal and is nothing like the jap version which was also available from the same dealer. The 3 year waranty is not valid in the UK, and Cyprus do not join the EU until next year at the earliest when the duty free car sales will end.

Hope this helps.

Mel - I think you'd be proud, mate. As we speak he's having all the recommended guages installed and has already added a knocklink.

Before recently purchasing my uk sourced and spec wrx i spent the last 6 months researching the cheapest and best long term value(not always the same thing)i looked at imported cars from Belgium and Cyprus neither cars come with 3yrs warranty, the service intervals of these cars is shorter in the oeners manual about 8k you will have toi comply with this to keep up your warraty limited as it may be in addition you will have to pay to have a CAT 1 alarm fitted, and additional insurance costs for a non uk spec car.

I would suggest that you source a uk spec car from a main dealer. i paid £18600.00 on the road for my WRX plus optional extras found "WHAT CAR "TARGET PRICE useful

I brought a car back from cyprus when i was living there it was a almera gti it was uk spec and u can still use the warranty over here. I was over there this summer and one of my mates brought a wrx over there and it is a uk spec that was from the main dealer. When i was living there and was looking for a car i looked at the jap imports they bring over there and i wouldent have one if they gave it to me they put the clocks back or they bring to crap cars and make one good one out if it.

Hi I have a myo1 org from Cyprus no problems moded most things would not be able to if subaru uk bought. Scoobs are nice cars to drive, thats what do and have great fun thats what I bought for in the end of the Day. I'm sure that 22B owners don't have any hang ups because its a import!!! Just a thought!!

Why do people think that an EU import should be worth less than a UK car they are all made in the same factory, just because it didnt come to a central store in UK to have the Cat1 alarm fitted doesnt devalue it. The fact of the matter is we who have imported from EU can AFFORD to sell at a realistic price and the hard fact is that all similar cars UK sourced will look expensive in comparison.

Look at the date of original post..!

I think most people have realised now that EU cars = UK cars and that Cyprus and Malta are now in the EU.

We got our boxster from Autobahn of Coventry. Cyprus import. Official porsche dealers would work on it, once they knew the full spec and stuff, but really took the **** when it came to trading it in for a new Boxster 'S'. So we said F**k you and chopped it in for our spec B Leggy.

So it possibly depends on the car and the dealer network. Porsche UK are tw*ts by all accounts!!

Too true!

Porsche used to regularly flout the block exemption rules by charging silly prices for RHD spec, as well as quoting extended delivery times for RHD vehicles sourced elsewhere in Europe.

Theres nothing wrong with buying Cyprus Import Scoobys. I live over there and have one.

Classics and Bugeyes from there are Jap Imports and blob Eyes are UK Spec. Cyprus has now joined the EU.

Some dealers over there are dodgy ie. Clocking cars, but then again so are some UK dealers. You just have to know what your looking for.

I bought an STI Type-R V5 in Cyprus and the the Subaru Main Dealers in the UK said they would gladily service it etc. for me with the cost being NO more than a UK car!

There is far more choice off the 'exotic' spec Impreza's in Cyprus than the UK.
22B, Type-R, STi, Spec C, Type-RA are in more abudance over in Cyprus. It only costs between £500-£700 to ship a car from Cyprus to the UK, and that includes Maritime insurance, registration and Road Tax in UK, and delivery to your front door. SVA's (to British standard) can also be done in Cyprus and its far cheaper than the UK. They also provide the model reports for this, so you can also ship a car from the Japan to the UK via Cyprus, and have this done.

Cyprus IS part of the EU as from last May 2004. All Subaru dealers sell European specification cars, they are equivilent to UK cars. Before last May 2004, Cyprus Subaru dealers sold Jap spec cars, i.e, Jap Imports as we know them. I hope this helps.

I meant to say the ONLY difference is that the speedo is in Km/h. Easy to convert though.

Mines a Cypriot import through Bob Gerards in Leicster. Warranty book took about a month to come through and its definitely Scoobys own warranty. Not had any problems so far !. Took it for its 1000 mile service last week and was told by the Scooby agent the next service is 10,000 or 12 months ?
Gonna be careful and double check with the suppliers soon.

If you want a Jap Scooby but can't get a model report for it in the UK, you can get one done in Cyprus for ALOT cheaper than the UK!
