Why buy a sport??

I didn't realise this board was only for turbo owners. I thought it was a performance car community. I best bugger off then.
People buy Sports for all sorts of reasons. Insurance, running costs etc. I mean what next? Are you going to go to the clio board and ask why they don't all drive V6 versions?
Sports aren't the turbo's poor relation they are another model in the range. That's how manufaturers sell cars.
As has been said it's a great handling 2l saloon car, and I can't think of one better for similar money.

My my, you have all been busy since last night!! Didn't realise how touchy the subject actually was!! I just ask you all too look at the original question again, this is nothing to do with driving skills, how much horse each turbo'd version has, how drunk i am, what version i own, how old you are, or anythin else you care to bring up trying to defend your pointless remark. Please if your gonna post make it sensible

you compared the Impreza Sport to your Impreza Turbo and said it was sadly lacking. Relative to the P1 / 22B / STi Type R your Turbo is sadly lacking.
The point being made to answer your question is that not everyone has the budget or, if they do have the budget, wants to spend the amount of money owning a P1 / 22B / STi Type R so they choose to own and run a UK Turbo.
This reasoning is exactly the same for owners of Sports. In June 2002, I went Impreza shopping. Very quickly, I realised I could afford either a shed of a UK turbo (high milage, missing FSSH) or a JDM WRX (mental insurance and potential high running costs) or a decent example of a Sport. Not having ever owned a AWD, let alone a turbo, I opted for a MY00 Sport with one prevous owner and FSSH.
And what a fantastic car I got
Circumstances having changed, I may now be upgrading to a MY02 WRX but I would in no way belittle the Sport as what I would infact be doing is be belittling the people who choose to own a Sport and this is where I feel you need ease off a little as snobbery is boring
Thanks, Jon

Pure class - another Scoobynet Classic thread.
I was just commenting the other day on how I missed Co$$ies/Mycrofts/Imatruckas's great threads then another pops up.
Well done pilkster you have brightend up my day
By the way you are a plonker
1] where does it say Scoobnet its for Turbos only?
2] a Std UK Turbo is hardly lightening fast LOL
3] You are surely on the windup!

Pilkster really needs to get his head out of his ****!!!!
I had a my97 uk turbo last year, brilliant car (had the prodrive pack), at the time the running costs were affordable.....just!
Then circumstances changed and it had to go
Had a fiat stilo and a focus since, both not worth talking about.
Now i`ve got a my98 sport, 4dr, already had turbo wheels on.
Its quick enough, still got that boxer burble and very affordable to run. It holds the corners as well as the turbo.
As an only car that does a fairly high mileage, its perfect.
You dont HAVE to have a turbo/wrx to use scoobynet (hence its not scoobyturbonet)
OK, if i could afford it i would have a turbo/wrx again, but until then...i`m happy and pilkster needs to stop being a narrow minded t**at!

My sister owns a sport because she couldn't justify the insurance & running costs on a turbo/wrx at the time when she bought it. She has all the mods to make the sport look and sound like a uk turbo but because she doesn't drive that fast in it she doesn't need 200+ bhp. I have now uprated her brakes to UK turbo ones it stops well & the handling is the same as a turbo.
I can never understand why people have to ask this question You buy what you want to buy and she wanted a sport so she bought a sport. It's better than anything in that bracket that money could have bought her.

pilkster, if you want to know what it feels like to be driven in a quick Impreza, pop down to Oulton Park race circuit next Saturday and i'll take you out for a few laps, as a thankyou for giving me a good laugh last night.
Bring some cake though, it's my birthday.

I had a Sport and it was a very capable car. I enjoyed every minute with it. I would sooner have a Sport than a lot of others cars I could mention, even if they are down in the power stakes. A very under estimated car in my opinion.

Pilkster, You did say Sports shouldn't be on here.
From page 1
Can't you remeber saying that?
Steve
From page 1
Scoobynet is not for sport drivers, Tesco.co.uk is more for "sport" friendly..IMOA..

Greasemonkey, get real mate i wouldn't be on scoobynet if i didn't own one, im 28 and own a MY97 subaru impreza turbo, i take it by your snide remark you too own a sport. All you with sports, drive a turbo and you will realise what impreza's where invented for!!!
Come back to us when you have a car thats over 400 Bhp and then you can try to gloat. Making snide remarks of a 140 Bhp(I think) car when you only have something like 260 Bhp yourself is nothing to be proud of.
Btw how about a nice little race with John's present "sport" . I'll be like the referee and have my usual 10% cut on the prize money.
