Why buy a sport??

shoping trolleys are awesome in the twisties. You started off attacking Sports and now you are having a go at shopping trolleys! Whats next, scateboards?
You are a cruel man, cant you just let me enjoy my lower powered lifestyle without making me feel all inadequate?

pilkster,
Put Mr Felstead in a Sport and yourself in your UK turbo. On most B roads or UK tracks I would put my money on John.
If John was in his own car you wouldn't stand a chance.
A sport is a very capable 4 door saloon, if you were in the market for a sporty cheap to run 4 door saloon what would you buy? A four door 2.0litre Focus perhaps?

ah yes its all clear now...
its ive got a turbo!! na na na na nah...
if i remember rightly, saab do non turbo versions too and they sell very well..
so what are you trying to prove... the only difference between the sport and the turbo is
1 turbo and some bhp......... just cos youve got 206 bhp and a sport has less, dosent mean youre going to have a better car...
I dont have a turbo, but i have a car that sticks like poo to the road, and is awsome fun to drive.... and thats what counts..

I had a sport as a company car, 125k miles in 2yrs 8 months, only needed 2 sets of tires, and a clutch and i caned it pretty much everywhere
Reliability, and fun in the corners, oh and if you didnt know Pilkster the Sport has the flat 4 boxer engine too
I have a Turbo now tho (cos its my own car) and one day I may just downgrade again to a car like John Felsteads

ROFL, I knew I shouldn't have gone out, just look at what I've missed!
Hmmm, I didn't ask how old you were, why did you feel the need to tell us?
Wow, you're a serious contender, and not to be trifled with. All that 208bhp.
Erm, funnily enough, no. Owned a '97 UK turbo once though. Wasn't very fast.
You mean winning rallies? How many have you won then?
im 28
and own a MY97 subaru impreza turbo,
i take it by your snide remark you too own a sport.
All you with sports, drive a turbo and you will realise what impreza's where invented for!!!

heres my view.
Sport, you can get a lot newer car for the money, looks exactly the same with a few extras and does 30PMG. 0-60 in 9.5sec, the only down side is you dont smile when you put you foot down.
Turbo, alot older car for the same money, alot higher running costs and about 20-25MPG,0-60 5.5sec, but you wont stop grinning!!!
Personally, im looking at both, currently got a 325,0-60 7.5sec and previous to that was a calibra that done 0-60 in 9 sec, it was quite fun to drive. I want an MY98 turbo, but cannot afford one with only £6k, so i have to look at older, higher mileage uk cars, or imports. but imports cost even more to run.
So im kinda screwed, thats why ive been thinking of sports. but as i have said, there now where near as quick, but you could say that why buy one if you cannot afford to run one, and yes i agree, but its such a great car, wether sport or turbo they both corner so well compared with other cars.
Suppose it comes down to what your budget is??? me im not loaded and really want a turbo, but not sure i can afford one.

Hahaha ROTFPMSL @ quality of this thread
Having recently sold my Sport, I can indeed confirm they have spots (it had 131bhp for the record )
I have also seen johnfelstead's old sport and I believe the only mod it had was suspension but it's the driver that is the reason why it would whoop most std UK turbo ***
Soon to get a turbo since finances now allow but to slate the Sport simply because you have a turbo is not a good enough reason You soon disappeared eh Pilkster when the P1 / 22B / STi Type R owners started to mock you for only having a UK turbo - get a grip!

As i was told by a wise man not so long back..
[/b]"i'd rather travel 2 miles in a car i enjoy than 5 miles in a car i hate"[/b]
or summit like that any way, nothing wrong with a "SPORT" at all.

150bhp/130+mph is fast enough on private road of course
Runs up a lot quicker than a std MY03 wrx.
Having a turbo is not an option for some people ie insurance running costs, I was 22 when i first bought a sport special.
26 and a bit more $ now so looking at getting a sti 7

i`ve been really impressed with my sport.. MY99 only mod is a turbo bonnet (from new)..
but its cheap to run, cheaper than my escort to insure by 400quid, and as soon as you get onto twisty roads, there isnt much that can touch it.. after driving the escort which wanted to throw you sideways into a ditch everytime there was a drop of rain.. it is a real pleasure to drive.. its by no means a fast car, but it has enough grunt to keep up, and overtake with ease..
will keep it until i`ve finished at uni next year, then i will more than likely start looking at turbo`s, when i can justify the extra fuel, insurance and running costs...

I haven't been to this board for ages ( too busy on the WSCC Board currently down for maintenance) but this is one of the most entertaining threads I have seen in a long while. Is Pilkster always this good value? I hope so 'cos I'm gonna look for more of his posts. Keep 'em coming chap, this is great stuff .......
