Chrissy, you may want to remove the numbers from the side of the car... I hope this isn't an urban myth, but I don't think you're allowed to have numbers on the side. I really don't know why, but it may be worth checking just in case you get more attention from our friends in blue?
I wish I could find a reference, but I can't: if anyone knows for sure, would they post? Ta!

I've heard this as well, i think it's something to do with inciting racing whilst on a public road
Apparently you can get round this by having a thin single digonal line through the numbers (as if you were crossing them out) but don't quote me on that!
very nice looking car though

That's the problem, I only know half the story DJ
It's something that I know people have been advised to avoid by graphics places for reasons of legality. It'd be great to get to the bottom of the "law" and know what is or isn't legal. I've had a look around DVLA/DVLC/VCA/DFT websites and can't find anything but I suspect it's to do with the Vehicle Construction Regulations, which are the regs that were modified to incoporate the ban on mobile phones.
Rally drivers may be exempt as they are competing in an officially sanctioned event of which the police are well aware, but that is pure speculation on my part.
It would be useful to get to the bottom of this

I have been to Monty's today and while i was there asked them about it, they laughed at me and said that they have never heard anything like it, so still got no further, is'nt there any police on this forum who can answer this question?.

@ chiark,
this ruling unfortunately is for real here in germany. You are not allowed to drive a vehicle on public roads with numbers displayed - with the exception that a. you are partiscipating in a registered racing event, or b. that the numbers are diagonally crossed out. If the police stop you then you could have problems, and the excuse: "oh they must have blown off in the wind" wont work either - as you must check this and if indeed they have blown off you will see clearly the clean strip where they were - and then it could turn into a bigger fine for negligence (ie your tape came off during driving, hence not having a secure vehicle bla bla... )
it is also illegal to put black strips on your windows, but you are allowed dark tinting (to 80 % or something ridiculous), but you cant have a sticker on the window! ? crazy huh...
