Clutch "growl" / vibration - identified?

Hi,
Not to sure if this is relavant to the design of Scooby gearboxes but this noise could be from the spigot bearing on the back off the crank giving a harmonic vibration on the input shaft, so causeing the clutch to rattle on take up?

I was at Scoobysport yesterday and we discovered that if you rev the car with the clutch pedal in....you will hear it make that noise. It was impossible to diagnose with the bonnet open as the engine noise drowned it out.
Any ideas anyone?.......please!

Sunil,
I think you've got exactly the same problem as me.
As I've said above, I'm going to leave it until next service, cos its now not getting any worse (might even be getting slightly better )
Scott
PS - you were going to give the dealer another shot?

After playing with various types of engibe for the past 15 years I have never come across a spigot bearing developing a harmonic vibration...I am puzzled.
The spigot bearing whether roller-type or phosphor-bronze is only used to to support the nose of the first-motion shaft and keep it aligned, especiallly as the clutch starts to bite.
If a harmonic is being generated then this is not only a design fault which should have been got rid of at the design phase, but will also cause the first-motion shaft bearing to wear and the front seal to leak.
If the clutch rattles on take-up then this likely to be a fault with the springs within the reaction hub at the centre of the plate.

Any of you folks got an idea of whats causing the 3/4000rpm rattle, noticed when de-clutching. My rattle altough is felt through the clutch pedal, feels like something in the area of the pedal box resonating, I can also get it when not de-clutching, just on the over-run.

Most common problem is the clutch pipe vibrating aginst the o/s bulkhead. Cheam Subaru have done shedloads with that problem!
Not sure about feeling it thru the pedal though??
