Robski,
Sorry, my mates back started to ache - he has just had an operation for multiple spinal decompression. I promise to take you out whenever you want. Where are you based?

I had forgot about that as i was running the new (97 ron?) SUL, but the car still is faster than before, but the numbers dont show it!
The great rolling road debate.....

Howdy..
Going back a bit.. cheers Mike... lol... but no bits at all got passed my I/C... I was able to reconstruct the missing blade from the fragments.... There went my excuse for taking the engine out... lol
This debate on downpipes will go on forever... I have seen it on many BBS's all over the world for many years....
Like people have said above... downpipes (and exhausts) should be tailored to the specific needs of the driver... diameter..length...flange design... all come into it.
I once tried running my car without a DP (was waiting for mine to arrive.. and had to move the car). It wouldnt start..flooded the engine! Maybe not related to the missing DP.. but it has never flooded before or since.. spooky..X-files... lol
Antiversion is slightly used on the Headers... but not to the full scope that it could be..
I was driving down the A** road one night.. with a mate...setting up the fuelling... Approxing 6K revs... as soon as we backed off... the sky behind us lit up... it was bloody impressive.... not so much of a big bang.... but the flash from the back of the car.... I wished I had been following (at a distance) behind, to see it..
The thing to remember is, changing from the original DP to a SM/PE/SS/BPM/HKS/Falklands/others.... will produce a good gain... the difference between the aftermarket pipes will be negligible.... the differences will be limited by the other parts of the engine... and chances are the differences might be transient...and as such you might not notice them on the rollers... but do on the road (ie: they might provide better throttle response, better turbo spool). The same sort of thing applies to BOV/DV.. you cannt measure their performance on the rollers.... but try a high pressured turboed car without one (that isnt running antilag)..you will find you have flat spots on gear changes.
Another issue, is the model/year of the car... I think BPM is trying to address this by tailoring their DP to specific models...
Certain MY cars have the wastegate in a slightly different place... some cars have higher flowing turbos... some turbos have the exhaust outlet (turbine outlet) in a different place..
There are just too many factors...

Lee,
"Like people have said above... downpipes (and exhausts) should be tailored to the specific needs of the driver... diameter..length...flange design... all come into it."
We do exactly that, we have over 5 designs now which matches the turbo to the downpipe.
Our Sti downpipe varies to the Impreza turbo as it should. They run different turbos and are essentially different cars. It would be nice to think that Prodrive/RalliArt/TRD just slap on any downpipe so they don't have to do any R & D for exact matching.
Go the extra step for the extra gain.

We have now released pricing for the BPM Twin Dump pipe which is 314 pounds.
If there are group buys organised ie 10 or more the price will be 279pounds.
We will continue to be cost competitive and always offer more for your pound.
This is the ONLY HPC coated unit and is the original Twin Dump system , not the poor siamese twins style down pipe.
If there is a desire for a ScoobySport downpipe look ie one big dump.
We would, if the requests for order are there, be able to manufacture one and retail it for under 160 pounds. The choice lies with the board members.
Look forward to a great year 2000 in the UK.

We discussed this as a company wanting to fulfill the missed area in the Subaru marketplace. Regardless of how confident we are in the product there are people that will always want to spend less. If we can offer the similar product for a cost saving to the end user , I am sure it would be accepted.
This would not take away from our flagship in the range but merely be a complimentary addition.

As your Impreza is running 300+ BHP and mine ... isn't! I'm wondering what kind of visual effect I'll get with the downpipe.
Audibly I have a Super Drager and Sequential Blow-Off Valve so no worries there, in fact to me its the 1812!

Hmmm..Visually...
An aftermarket one can look really pretty... Oh how I love the goldness of my down pipe...
The original ones look cheap... and clothed in a disgusting outer ...Like a woman from Essex..sorry lads...just joking...
A downpipe is a like a woman (a pretty one)... likes to be exposed... and likes to show off...I dress a part of mine in the best I can get.. a lovely fibre wool clothe... keeps her nice and warm... and hugs to all her lovely soft flowing curves....mmmm...*dribble*
Dont even get me started on how the hole matches up... and her flange....
As for power and noise...thats a seperate issue..
