Fitted mine at the weekend, took about an hour or so.

Impressed with the preformance improvement but not overly impressed with the fit.

DP looks well made, nice welding etc. But the bracket for securing to the back of the gearbox was a mile out (well about 10mm - which is far enough in this context). I had to drill another hole in the bracket to be able to put the bolt back in, and had to put about 5mm of spacer washers behind it to stop it putting too much stress on the bracket and hence gearbox casing.

Although this was easily done - I didn't expect to have to do it - Dissappointing.

Anyone else have any problems or is my chassis knackered

Question

Ian,

Just a quick question. Mine went on well (classic MY97), didnt have the alignment problem as noted above but struggled to get the turbo heat shield back into place. Currently it is attached by just 1 bolt! It appears not to be wide enough to accomodate the flared wider neck of your downpipe where it bolts onto the turbo - is this normal?

I will have another proper look at the weekend (as now my heat shield vibrates!) Just wanted some pointers before i maul with it.

Cheers,
Ian

Wink

You have to cut the heat shield to accomodate the extra width of the down pipe.

Just leave the heat shield off! I think that's what most people do, as they break eventually anyway and rattle like buggery

did you mean "Warped"? My heat shield was screwed before I changed the downpipe. Rattled like a bugger so instead of modifying it and putting it back on, I left it off. Spoke to the guys at Scoobysport first and they said that this was common thing to do..

No wrapped. Wrap the downpipe in exhaust heatwrap. Keeps the d/p heat out of the engine bay , and is supposed to improve performance as the gases cool further down the exhaust system.

had mine put on my 8 yesterday... sounds great, turbo whistles during hard exelleration now...
having trouble working out whether it's quicker now than before.... there is no 4,200rpm "boot in the back" feeling, but I assume that's because there's less turbo lagg..?
Or is the car be running too lean now?
Any idea's??

No wrapped
Cheers Stevem2k

Err,
Wrap the downpipe in exhaust heatwrap

I think it's easier to do this with the pipe off the car, just in case you're considering it. If you need more info just use the search button. There were a couple of threads a couple of months back, including info on suppliers, prices, etc. I think cost is something like £15 but you do need quite a long length of wrap.

Rally Designs for the wrap. 50ft of 2" allows plenty of overwrap. You will need some stainless clips too in order to keep it all secure.
