regarding Watchmen- I have read it, a truly great comic odd though that will sound to people who think of comics like the Beano etc, well ahead of its time.
The reason I'm aware of Rorschach tests pre-dates the comic.

I dont think you need help. Its just a case of accepting,to a certain extent, that this is part of your personality/make up.Then its a case of turning it into something positive.
You say you keep putting yourself in testing situations, whats wrong with that? The opposite is to never test yourself and what a dull life that would be.

A few words....
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.
Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.
Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around
you is crying.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away!

I would advise that you get yourself a Tony Robbins course. It's a course on CD or tape that you listen to daily and it looks at all aspects of life. I GUARANTEE that if you listen to it properly, and do everything that it tells you to do, you will have a different outlook on things.

Be naked, be happy (though not in British Home Stores)
I am neglecting Stcokport town centre these days, the second hand shops especially, 2.40 for Fish,Chips and a blanket, a bargain, try and find my soap when its raining, John Claude Van Damme nicks my socks and it really annoys John Clesse, Matron, pass the sniffle sniffle I am on fire
But really I am happy, do not be constrained by the real world when fantasy is better.

rogp,
No, not the guy from Time Team.
I am working my way through one of his courses right now. I'm probably just over half way through and it's great. It gets you to start thinking differently about things. You start to put things into more perspective. There are quite a few things it gets you to do yourself, such as exercises and such like. It isn't something you can just listen to and then everything's sorted. Also, the theory is great and it does make a lot of sense, but at the end of the day it is down to the individual to really make the changes and heed the advice.
It's definitely worth a try in my opinion and has done more for me so far than any psychiatrist ever did.

Beating ourselves up is a normal human condition, there are cures which all involve work. Check out www.isaexperience.com for some explanation and the offer of weekend courses.

I'm the same way - never able to relax and be happy with what I've got, always feeling I'm missing out. Wish I could just be happy and smile more, the older I get the worse it gets because it's now combined with feelings of life passing me by (mid-life crisis here I come).
I'm 34 now but when I was 21 my girlfriend died in a car crash and it hit me very hard as I adored her, and have never met anyone like her since. I don't think I've ever been truly happy since it happened, but I was very happy/carefree/young-at-heart before it happened.
I know I've become self-destructive but I'm not sure how to become happy again. I focus on money/possessions as a cure, eg. if I just upgrade my 2k bike to that 3k bike I'll feel better, or I must get a faster car, etc. This then just creates a vicious cycle of working too hard to earn the money that I need to buy the things I think will make me happy (they never do) and therefore not having enough relaxation/playtime to actually enjoy life.
As someone said it's f*cked up.

paulr,
Yes, I heard that he was in Shallow Hal, but I haven't seen that film. What happens?
I find that by listening to T.R. you can't help but change and get motivated and positive. Make sure you get the CD pack though because then you get the benefit of his unique way of speaking. You get worn out just listening to the guy!

In as much as you take warfarin if your blood is too thick you can also take drugs to balance back to normal any other chemicals imbalance in your body/head. There are illegal ones to boost your seratonin level and make you feel ridiculously happier - but that aint the way ahead!!!!
You've recognised it mate, now just go try get some help to fix it. It will be tricky cos the brain is complex, but I have seen many people sucessfully fix issues they have. Sometimes they have to pop a pill a day for a few months - big deal...!
The first step is admitting it - and that is the biggest one. You've passed GO already
