to be honest all this talk makes me wanna go to the dark side you can pick up a spec c or jdm sti with +-300bhp for 18-22k for a nice one depnds what you want and what you have on it, but you can still get a 1 year warranty, and i get bored easy so 1 year would be enough for me before i chop it in for another, so i reckon im goin down the sti8jdm or spec c route next no more need for messing about with ppp and still not being happy!

This is how it is - You can get a custom Tek3 for 525 quid , decat centre for 50 quid, Prodrive BB for 150 quid - oh and couple of samcos for 20 quid - Lets add it up 745 quid against a Prodrive bargain price of hmmmmm 1600 quid! Warranty aside there is no argument. As for the PPP adding value well that is a load of bol**cks - Most people wont touch em because of the higher insurance blah blah. A PPP tek3 is off the shelf and we all know how every car is different........ I know of MY01 cars cars pushing 290 bhp+ 160mph+ with decat and tek3 - all done safely! Now you aint gonna get that with a PPP!! Would it not pi$$ you off after spending 1600 quid and some guy after only spending 900 quid in the same model car cruises past you with a smug grin????? That would make my $h1t itch personally......... But each to their own

No It wouldn't **** me off Russ - the first time I needed some warranty work done! It's agamble I wouldn't want to take on a new car if I was doing a reasonable mileage and that's what costs. The extra cost is Subaru's insurance policy for the numpty's who kill their motors(not the unlucky genuine warranty claims)
Just for the record L+V don't charge any more for the insurance with PPP and I would pay more for a car with PPP and warranty second hand than modded and void warranty.

2to 3 yr old car plus - no brainer do it the cheap way and get the extra bhp.

Barney, it is quite evident that you dont know much about TEK3 remaps - if you did then you would know that the software cannot be detected by dealers. I personally think thats its the numptys who bend over and pay Prodrives inflated prices for a performance package which quite frankly does not deliver. If I had gone the PPP route when I bought my O2 I would be sat with a worthless boost clamp and 1800 quid lighter. Hmmmmmmm..... no brainer me thinks. And as for LV - well they were the one of the highest priced insurance brokers I went to - BUT like I said each to their own

Russ.....

and you would get zip back on your uncertified mods - in fact it would probably lower the value of your car whereas PPP carries 60% or so of its value forward. No brainer for a newish car.

PPP carries 60% of its value forward? Who told you that - the dealer? No way will you get a grand for a PPP'd car over an above a standard WRX - maybe 3 years ago, but no now.

I don't understand the warranty issues either - you're not covered under the warranty if you use and non-dealer approved part - but that's only for 'related' parts. I've got a full SS decat on my MY02 - but just had my wingmirror replaced ubnder warranty. The dealer also said they 'wouldn't notice' the decat if I had a engine related warranty claim either. Also I thought Tek 3 was switchable - so you can switch to standard map for warranty 'issues'.

Anyway, does't EU law say that parts can be covered under warranty if they are 'of equivalent standard' to OEM parts?

Tek 3 plus full decat - it's the ONLY way to go!

Boss,

Having just sold the car for 1k over std book I think that it still applies. Also most of the dealers price that way and they do still shift most of the nearly new stock in the system.

Doesn't apply to out of warranty cars granted but folks will still pay more for an "official" mod than someone elses tinkering. Remember that most buyers are not Scoobynet level in terms of their knowledge or interest.....

Wink

After reading the pro's and con's I think i'd go for the TEK 3 Mod. Does anyone know where's the best place to go for value for money?

zip back on my uncertified mods?? Hmmm I could sell a Prodrive BB , centre decat and TEK3 ECU on Scoobynet before it had chance to hit page 2 The point here being that you take OFF your mods BEFORE you trade-in or sell your car. Everyone keeps the stanndard pea-shooters and catted-items for that very reason. I personally have a PPP BB - I paid 150 quid for it 1 year ago and I know I could easily get 125 quid for it now!
