OULTON PARK 18th OCTOBER (Saturday)
Mat, when you have a noise test you can usually lower the Db if you dip your clutch, you also need to tell porkies about your max revs. Saturday is 105 Db so you there is a good chance that you will get through
Simon.
Simon.
Matt, I have had a chat with Graeme and he is confident you will get through the noise test. We have plenty of bike engined cars on our days at Oulton, not all 2 engines though. The Z Cars twin bike engined car has been on a number of them with us.
Give me a call on 07771 854404
Pete, see you saturday pm, Graeme has told me you are coming.

Had a great day, despite the marshalling being considerably lower than Oultons usual (superb) standard. 170 track miles!!!
How many stoppages due to horrendous and discourteous drivers????
Thanks Simon, Graham (sorry if I spelt your name wrong
), Hazel, and all the track-action / oulton team

Hi Simon, yes a good day but we did struggle with the reds more than usual. I can't understand some of the offs. The weather was great, yet we have experienced less when it has been raining all day....I can only think it's the red mist.
We did have a few break downs, poor Warren and his MR2,it is certainly a bit scorched now. Apparently after speaking to him the car got so hot inside, he stopped it quicker by driving into the barrier. Still at least he is OK. It does make you think though should we wear race suits ? I don't, but perhaps when seeing how this can happen we should. At the very least should look seriously at fire control systems in the engine bay ?
I toog a quick look at the Westfield after it hit the barrier, did you get the opportunity to look at it ? I looks like a few £'s to me. Not 10 mins before the chap that owns it was telling me how quick it was. Perhaps another case of underpants on the outside of trousers.
Anyway, apart from more reds than we like, a good day had by all.

Yep, there are definately going to be some people saving up again after yesterdays events.
i have never experienced a track day with quite so many offs. for that matter, I don't think i've ever seen a Clio Cup race with so many offs!
there were a lot of people yesterday taking things far to seriously (i was possibly one of them at times, so i hold my hand up) but it seems to me most of the problems were a result of so many people of contrasting abilities all trying to have a good day.
I don't think we have seen so many pukka racers, and so many 'arrive and drive', all on track at the same time before.
Having said that I do understand that it's run on a commercial basis and the places have to be filled.
I'm glad I was not one of the 'first timers' yesterday, as I think i would have found it a bit intimidating. Likewise I think i would have been rather frustrated if I were a racer trying to practice.

glad he was safe, and massive respect to him for going home to collect the 993 turbo and going straight out again

I was one of those "first timers" on Saturday. It was quite an experience.
The Track Action web page mentions "Maximum track time" "Stress Free" and "Un-crowded track"! I felt like I was on the M25 at times. My be it was the high number of red flag incidents, but I kept finding myself in the way with some hot Cleo up my backside. Some of the fast guys were fine, the Ferrari and the black Scooby were fast but did not seem to hassle you, but others I defiantly felt were pushing it a bit in the overtaking. (Around the outside in Druids..... that did not feel comfortable)
It seemed to me that it was all the racecars or those on slicks that were having all the offs.
I was with 3 friends (also first timers) and had booked an instructor for the morning, but we only got one session each with the instructor due to all the stoppages. Not as value for money as we fist thought, we had reckoned that we should get two sessions a piece...
I had may be four sessions in the morning and the same in the afternoon, but I can only remember 2 or 3 laps when I felt I had enough space to get a good lap without hindrance. I remember getting Lodge very wrong after being too concerned about the fast guy behind me and going in too deep - I had a good inspection of the left hand kerb ...
That said we all had a great time, and are talking about our next track day. Next time, now I know a bit, I will be keener to keep to my line and let the fast guy go past on the straits. In the end it is all experience, though I was expecting to learn the track without having to learn track pack position as well.
Are weekday events less hectic?

Duke,
I have done many trackdays at Oulton with Track Action and must admit I have never seen so many red flags before. You were lucky to get so many laps in, it was first time out in my new motor and the brake peddle went soft as a marshmellow after only three laps! To Track Action's credit they sorted me out with a deal for another day.
You will allways get some drivers who think they own the track but most are pretty fair. Open pit lane is a good idea for the more experienced driver but maybe newbies should be allowed to have track time dedicated to themselves under instruction. I would of liked this when I first started but I only did weekday events and they were much quieter.
I am going on the 29th Nov if you are interested and it is cheaper.
