1/4 Mile question - Am I being Stupid??????
#62
does it really matter though?
To me 0-100, 0-60 times are completely useless.
What matters is in gear acceleration time, these would be much more usefull if the magazines, manufacturers printed these. It's good to see Prodrive do supply these figures. http://www.prodrive.com/uploads/03MY%20STi%20PPP.pdf
According to the road dyno on Delta Dash, 2 up with half a tank of fuel mine does.
In Gear Acceleration 3rd gear:
STi5RA STi8PPP STi8Standard
30 - 50mph = 2.4 seconds 2.7 seconds 2.9 seconds
40 - 60mph = 2.0 seconds 2.4 seconds 2.4 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.1 seconds 2.6 seconds 2.7 seconds
In Gear Acceleration 4th gear:
STi5RA STi8PPP STi8Standard
40 - 60mph = 3.0 seconds 3.1 seconds 3.9 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.6 seconds 3.0 seconds 3.4 seconds
60 - 80mph = 2.6 seconds 3.2 seconds 3.9 seconds
70 - 90mph = 2.9 seconds 3.5 seconds 4.2 seconds
so 30-90 takes 7.4 seconds in a 300BHP STi5 TypeRA using 3rd and 4th, an STi8PPP takes 8.8 seconds and an standard STi8 TypeUK takes 9.8 seconds using the same gears.
That kind of puts into perspective how shatering the performance of a very mildly tuned RA is with an almost identical power/torque curve to an STi8PPP and how it absolutely eats for breakfast a stock STi8 TypeUK. It also shows how fast in the real world an STi8PPP is. Those are impresive figures for a heavy saloon car, especially when you consider the allround ability the car has.

thanks all
