MINI Cooper,
Saxo VTS/106GTi,
Proper Mini with decent tyres,
MG ZS 180,
New shape Clio.

All of the above handle very well as standard, although the new Cooper is the "best" IMHO, as not only does it grip, you know exactly what's going on beneath you. Same as the proper Mini, only the proper Mini has less grip. The VTS/GTi can't match them on feel, nor can the Clio. The MG was too grippy!

Corradoboy, I accept what you are saying, havent driven one so I cant comment but I must say that I drive a lot of cars and most dont really do it for me like my Golf, Scoob being the exception.

and on the 8 inches, I often quote 8 inches but really mean 2 !

Integra Type R - EVERY TIME, if youve never owned one youll never understand exactly how focussed this car is. Things to mention on it: LSD,front strut brace, 2 rear braces, lightweight car, big brakes, amazing engine/gearbox the list goes on, they are amazing cars.

I have owned the following: ITR, 306 GTI and Mk1 106 Rallye

the order for these 3 is

ITR
106
306

1.ITR
2.VX220 (oh yes! try one of these on track, unbelievable)
3.CTR (when setup right)
4.ATR (best FWD saloon by miles)

All IMO of course.

Hmm, I've only driven one FWD car in anger lately and that was really impressive so my vote would go to the Seat Leon CupraR.
However, as no one else has mentioned it I'll get my coat

Integra type R without a doubt!

The CTR is good but much more refined than the Integra so you dont raelly get the feed back, the new should be eben better too!

I've driven a fair few FWD cars. My favorites for handling alone would be as follows:

1) Ford Focus RS
2) Honda Integra Type-R
3) Ford Racing Puma
4) Pug 205 GTI
5) Pug 306 Rallye

The Racing Puma had incredible handling - when it appeared people put it on a par with the Elise, which is incredible for a FWD car. I'd rate the Focus RS and ITR has higher though because the Puma just didn't have enough power to really exploit the handling.

The 205 was the daddy for lift off oversteer, but I have a suspicion that if you got out of an ITR or an FRS into either of those Pugs they wouldn't feel quite so great. They were good for their time, but things have moved on a bit.

Citroen Xsara kit car (competed in the FWD class of the world rally championships a couple years ago).

Normally aspirated, 9,000rpm, FWD, quicker on tarmac than the blown 300bhp 4x4 rally cars.

All educated people agree, that the DC2 ITR is the best handling FWD car ever made.
