ok, what the hell is the best handling fwd car then?

Although i thought it was a viscous diff????.....of course i could be completely wrong .Like my clone 325 said, there are many other factors involved eg suspension etc.

Corrado, 306 GTI, 106 GTI, VTS, VTR, Integra Type-R, 205 GTI.......they are all there or there abouts - its probably down to individual preference. You'll note most of the above cars will post track times as good as or similar to more powerful cars.
Handling is a personal thing - what I might feel is best may be different to the next guy. All we can scientifically dicuss is grip levels FWIW, I'm still amazed at the stupid stupid stupid speeds you could chuck the vts into the corners! The front end refused to budge.........of course, you'd then have to catch the rear
For me a good fwd car has to have brilliant resistance to understeer but also some good controlled lift-off oversteer: this is where the fun is at

Park them side by side and you'll see at least 7" lower roof line, 8" wider track and a shorter wheelbase.
I agree there are differences and I would imagine a Corrado VR6 would handle better (having never driven one I cant comment) but I am not sure where you got your figures from !
AFAIK the wheelbase is actually longer in the Corrado, yep its much lower (like the Scirroco I had I couldnt actually drive cos my head was in the headlining !) and as for an 8 inch wider track, er how ? (I stand to be corrected)
I have seen a MK2 Golf with Corrado front (wings and Bonnet) end and it looked fairly in proportion without the wheels sticking out of the side.

Recently a mk2 was a FastCar feature car and had a Corrado front bumper and had to cut 8" out of the centre to fit it. Also, I often park alongside a workmates mk2 and always look back on my way into work to see the difference. I've driven both back to back too, and there really is no comparison, truly. When I drove the VR6 the difference was 20 fold. If you've never driven one it's easy to dismiss it as a Golf coupe. Afterwards your opinions change, guaranteed. If they don't, you weren't trying or aren't very good.

corrado 2-door coupe
L 13' 3" x W 5' 6" x H 4' 4"
golfmk2 3- and 5-door hatchback
L 12' 7" x W 5' 4" x H 4' 6"
mk3 3-/5-door hatchbacks
L 13' 2" x W 5' 6" x H 4' 8"

Corradoboy - have you got any idea what you're going on about? Since when has the 2.9 v6 been a 24 valver? And having to take 8 inches out of the front bumper does not equate to the car being 8 inches wider than a mk2 golf. Have you actually got a corrado?
Anyway, my vote goes to the Integra type R, followed closely by the Clio Cup. I've had a couple of 205 GTis and 3 Civics, too, but I'll stand by ITR and the Cup.
PS VR6s drink too much fuel and must cause damage to tarmac because they're so damned lardy.

OK, if those stats are gospel I stand erected. Sure looks more than that. I have the same dilemma in my underpants . But I still stand by the fact that I have driven a 106/205/206/306/307 mk1/2/3/4/5 16V/G60/VR6 VTS/VTR and even a Diahatsu Cuore, and the Corrado still wins. Only the Scoob beats it, and in the dry even that's close against a VR6. I've also driven a GpN Evo5, 4&RWD Cossies and a 355, but that's a different story. On FWD I stand by my choice, no matter how wide, low, long fat or ugly it or I am.
Being as I have now lost an argument, I'm off to beat Corradogirl. Tomorrow I shall be posting from casualty.

Your gracious acceptance of your error(s), along with your creditworthy display of self-effacing humour wins it back for you corrado boy. Just don't do it again.
Clip Cup still kicks ***. Along as it's dry.

I haven't driven a Clio Cup yet, or a new Mini.
Off to bed, must be up early to practise bull5h!t for test drives at Renault/BMW sDealers.
I bet a test in a Focus RS is out of the question, but I wonder how that would fair in this discussion ?
The 406 coupe (boss's) wasn't good in the twisties. Fiat coupe (friends) was fun, but understeered and got unpredictable when really pushed. Civic Vtec (g/f) had light steering and understeered. C/girls friends chap won't let me in his Alfa GTV, don't know why? Brothers XR3i was terrible, worse than dads Rover. I won't mention my cousins Calibra. Oh bu99er, I did.
It's late, I can't remember the others. Off to bed.

JDM CTR - 1.6 VTEC (old shape), didnt, and havent met a FWD car on or off track that can match it including VR6 Corrado
JDM ITR
JDM CTR
Clio Cup
306 Rally
106 GTI
are some of my favorites, but nothing beats RWD.

The current MG-ZS 180 is a fine handling car. Little bit hard on the suspension, but corners very well indeed. Tiff apparently rates it very highly too.

Another vote for the Clio Williams here!!
I had one before the subaru, and in all honesty the handling on the clio is amazing for a front wheel drive car(if driven properly), far better than the standard 16V, and better than 1.9 205's and Golf GTi's (proven with friends cars at the time)

My top 10 would be...
- 106 GTi/Rallye
- Saxo VTS
- 205 GTi
- 306 Rallye/GTi-6
- Clio Cup
- Clio Williams
- New Mini
- Proper Mini
- ITR
- Corrado
Now I've been lucky enough to own a 106 GTi, a 306 Rallye and now a Clio Cup, and I've driven most of the others, but out of those I reckon the 106 is still the best!

Another vote for the ZS180 here...
Tiff Needell said it was the best handling FWD car he'd ever driven.. suppose he's driven a few cars in his time and knows what he's on about...
I've got one and I think its pretty good too.. amazing what the MG bods have acheived !!

I've done the mk2 Golf thing many times & had all types of 8V & 16V & even a Jetta & I think they are ace, however IMHO the Corrado despite carrying a minimum of 100kg more over a Mk2 in even the lightest Corrado (1.8 16v) pips em all on handling- execpt a fully track set up 16v Mk2 Ive driven, which was awesome handling wise, but hardly a practical road car.
Not driven many other great FWD's but the Puma really is a heck of a lot better to drive than it looks.
I would imagine the Integra type R is up there with the best & also the older Honda CRX Vtec jobbies too but Ive not driven either of 'em.
