I want 400bhp and a good torque figure, but.... i want it to last

Interesting thread.
People regularly overlook their driveshafts when uprating power on their vehicles.
I work for a company that supplies either standard, custom or re-enforced driveshafts for just about ANY make of car ranging from standard production vehicles, through rallysport and shortly F1 cars.
Email me if you'd like to persue this.

Daz,
so having raised the subject, can you share some details - what do you recommend for uprating the driveshafts? Also are you aware of any driveshafts that have failed on high power Subarus, and if so what were the failures, and at what power?/torque?
Interestingly I was with a Subaru rally specialist today and his observation on driveshafts was that the splined end was shortened by 12mm to enable a quick change - other than that they were standard!!

Rannoch, I sent you an email to the address listed in your scoobynet profile.
I'll send it again.
PS: You mention "Subaru rally specialists" - I know we've done work with ProDrive recently, so check my email and go from there.

Rannoch, that is a very interesting point regarding the driveshafts!! with that 12mm difference removing shafts for box changes etc would be very simple.
Now... Have i got the bollocks to remove it

Tweenie,
what was interesting was how much the rally boys do to speed up the swap over time of major components. They are counterintuitive to our thinking of beefing things up.
I was thinking that a Group N car produces up to around 400lbsft of torque which is not extreme...
...however on the road, surface changes and big jumps will drive tremendous gobs of torque back through the drivetrain - I would hate to imagine how much!! Which is food for thought!

PS In answer to earlier questions car and engine are currently in different places
Been working hard on it - but ran out of dyno time last week before it was fully mapped, it took almost a day of the two day window I had booked in to get running due to set up and an undiagnosed issue with a sensor which took five hours to resolve.
I am now in a queue at the dyno waiting to see if it can be done this week. Currently not optimistic, ironically the engine mapping can be finished on Monday or Tuesday next week - which is of course too late for Scooby Shoot out.

Rannoch, shame
Think i am gonna give the shootout a miss.. Wanted to see some monsters run, by the looks of it there will only be two now... far too long a drive for that.
Harvey, thanks for the mail.

Tweenie,
if I can get a quarter run this year I will try my best - Elvington or the pod!
After all this time I feel the need for speed! Initial mapping is promising
Still crossing fingers and touching wood that it all comes together!

My money is on Harvey for scooby shootout. Just spent a few hours setting up his AVC-R and it's flying now 1 bar from 3500 rpm (in 4th) then 1.85 bar to the red line. Also getting full boost from 1st gear !!

Guys,
I will be more than happy to give the prize, REGARDLESS of who wins.
I gave it a lot of thought, and realised that anything I could offer the winner, he'd already have. So I'll be giving away a full set of LATERAL PERFORMANCE car decals
Mark.

Is Harvey's car running fine with no probs? He might have probs, he is out and the competition could end up being won by a 300bhp scoob

Are they the high performance, low friction ballistic series stickers ?? Damn, wish I'd gone now
Andy
Frank - See my post above Re Harveys car - It's going really well now that he junked the HKS plugs !! It felt much faster than my own car even although his is MUCH heavier.
I recon it's just down to getting a good launch and he will be well into the 11's. It has already ran 128mph in the 1/4 and 176mph max
His new engine will soon be ready too, so look out you big boys
