ads, my masterplan (this week) as it constantly changes, is to mod brakes/suspension first then look for some more get up and go, so intercooler would be on the list. Big John mentioned getting made some bigger tmic, I was just wondering about the lag thing with fmic
#2170
oldfella, im gonna go for a bigger tmic.
mine worked better then ads at shootout cos of the hot weather, by the time ads had enough cold air flowing through it 1/4mile was over.
i hope next year is hot too or he's gonna do me

Nod, I am no authority on this but I think that you are right over the short distances, I think the choice of cooler depends on what you intend to use the car for, ie sprinting v longer distance

9 Stellas Steve?
I'd have been chucking by then! That's over a gallon you know... more expensive than petrol
Glad you all had a nice night - I was in bed at 8:45 And it's still raining.

my car revs out at 125 so i wont get much benefit from fmic, they really start to work well about 100. only reason i keep up with ads at 100+ is cos of my short gears with different gears i would probably go for front mount but my car will work better with tmic
what plans you got ads? CO2 spray?

i like the acceleration, no lag and it pulls 5th like it does 2nd
and in 1/4 mile i have to use top gear, dont want to put it in 5th and bog down
#2179
who wants top speed runs, my car is used 99.9% on the road its not very often i get up to 125.
i prefer my acceleration, not many cars can keep up with me in a top gear roll on on the bypass

nods mate..hers something andy f said in the last few days..
"11.66 @ 127mph my old WRX RA was running, that was on standard internals and a 99 UK gearbox, the RA ratios were slightly slower at 11.7 mainly due to the extra gearchange required.
As for how long it will last, well it now has a new owner and is still going strong Thats over 2 years now it has held the UK 1/4 mile title
(2 years 4 months to be exact )
I think the new owner may be about to 'perk it up' a little too......which is nice
Andy"

FMIC is far better than TMIC on hot days. Only reason you were better than ads at the shoot out is due to the stupid level of boost you were running, adam will have still been running standard scooby ecu boost of 14 to 16psi, not 22psi.
You dont need to be up to 100 for it to work, it actually cools the air charge down quicker than a TMIC on the scoobs, due to the airflow and air available.

I got a bit carried away watching the football in the pub and consumed 6 pints during the game! Then I had another one after the match finished, then one in Country Park, then one in the pub in Willerby. I was actually pretty pi55ed after that lot!!! Or maybe it was just Phil's driving that made me feel that way???

which intercooler pipe, outlet from compressor or outlet from intercooler.
you cant touch the outlet from turbo on mine, its that hot, but the outlet from the intercooler to throttle body is cold. Adams should be the same.
perhaps i was misled by you turning the boost up then, but still 19psi is still quite a bit more than 16psi.
the TMIC gets too much heat soak on trackdays, and take a great deal of time to cool down.

im not saying your wrong, im sure fmic have advantages but going by my(very limited) experience, tmic worked for me and its the old slanty one which ive been told is crap. i think with an APS tmic i will get into 12's

steve yeh final coats are drying as i type m8 will just need a quick polish 2moro
oldfella sorry to jump in but i would think you would get a little more turbo lag due to the extra lenth in the induction tract, then again all the little mod's that ads has done all add up and help each other work better...
nod/ steven the pipe that we felt at the shootout was the intercooler to inlet manifold and it was very warm not hot, i would expect this to be cold but on the day what with the sun and a bit of waiting to run again it bound to get hot
Steven how you doing with the gear box?
i got a new boost gauge that's a lot better than the one i had in and it is now giveing me a reading of 17psi peak and dropping back to 15psi,
have orderd a air/fuel meter as well.
