Do you mean a Merlin/Griffon engined RR? TBH I think you'd be hard-pressed to fit it in the engine bay. I guess on a similar vein a big Merc with a 19-litre supercharged Daimler-Benz aero engine would be

Have you heard of John Cobb at all?

Duno bout that ding', like said, 600+ is poss on std bottomend and no headwork (jus cams), and ronnie got nigh on 200 within 1.25miles with a heavy R33 and about 650bhp, then a stripped R32 with about 600bhp on std engine could easily given the room (then again a heavier model should if a 33 can within that distance). That dont sound too expensive to me

I mean thas just 1.25miles, Karls 3dr could well do 200, but doubt within that distance either.

TVR was mentioned, but dont think any of em has ever been timed doing a GENUINE 200+ have they?

Still, motorbike is by far cheapest.

This is easy - old lotus eprit S4 - Does 174mph - without mods, can but for £12k - good condition.

Wouldn't think it would take that much to get 26mph extra with changed ECU, exhaust and turbo mods and a long 6th gear

As said a 300ZX TT is a good base.

Otherwise my personal choice would be an RX7 (Batmobile version).

yet to see a supra or 300ZX in the UK do that, supra got close at TOTB but that had lot of cash spent on it.
Chap from Japan did it on the M1. Video was on a thread here for a bit.

only aiming for 200 in the RX ?

If you want to go fast on the cheap you need to find the cheapest heap of junk with largest possible engine and a slippery shape.

Crappy 50quid saff, twin turbo a ford 5litre V8 (wild heads, wild cam, very low comp, 2 old T4s or sumat similar, tons of boost, should hold toghether for at least 1 run!) (fits straight in and mates to T5 box) and very long gearing.

No idea what power you could get but they get well over 1000bhp from the ancient 3.8 V6 turbos in Buick Grand Nationals in the USA...

Simple really.

Cool

I've seen 50's Ford Pops do 200mph, all you need is a big, all steel Yank V8 & a supercharger the size of a house. Oh yeah & enough nitrous to keep a busy anaesthetist going for a year

Ignore the power etc. of the car for a second. It's the aerodynamics that count here, drag co-efficient etc.

Just upping the power on a typical car will work only really up to a point(vmax?) where it will then need horrendous amounts of power just to go a few miles an hour more.

So look for something very aerodynamic and power up that. I'd guess that something like a scoob would be a poor choice as it's not very aerodynamic but maybe something like, Oh I dunno, a calibra or even a soarer would be better than the likes of scoobs/skylines etc.

Oh, & don't forget gearing!

I reckon the Brabus tuned Mercedes SL sold on Ebay last week should do the job. Genuine 6.0 with 550bhp.

All for £18k.

Should do it reliably, all day, every day as well.

Very very very hot curry and a ''not in use'' sign on the indian bog door.200 yard dash to the local convenience.

May be no good over the 1/4 mile but on the short sprint it would be wicked

You need a chevy small or big block engine and stuff it into a lightwieght body with big wheels like a dragster,
all this is fairly cheap.
scrappys, internet and american car uk owners clubs.
But if your talking jap the 300zx is a good starter.
Look at how fast blitz/Jun got 1 to go www.junauto.co.jp

My last scoob was officially clocked at 174.8mph at 1.25miles on the last TOTB day. That was reading over 190 on the clock
It was comfortably faster than any EVO's there and more than a match for the few cossies that made it there without breaking down

Another one for the XJS V12...

All that's needed:

One XJS v12 (£600-800 for one that works)

Tall final drive..or a gearbox with a final ratio taller than standard 1:1 (manual conversion will release approx 40bhp alone)

De-restricted exhaust (i.e 6-3-1)
Add 6 webber downdrafts and you'll have a happy 450ish BHP

...or if you like messing with EFI and cutting costs , a DIY megasquirt ECU and re-commision the dis-used coldstart injectors, and a twin throttle body conversion.

To get more, just flow the heads, add some better cams, or even a 7.4 litre conversion (getting a bit pricey now). And don't forget to strip the interior out.

...Or be lazy and shove a nitrous kit on.

Easy! Lister were making 200mph+ XJS's over 20 years ago!
