NiceCupOfTea,
Nice one ..... like your style.
Your comment about the other 1980s cars in the same class is a valid one which has been made many times before.
I use a R220 Tomcat Turbo Coupe as my daily driver, but, and it's a big BUT, as much as I enjoy driving that nice little car and the family's runabout (MGZS), I prefer driving my Montego Turbo .... a car which will never be a "has been" but is very much a "still is" ... unlike some I could mention ....

Mention them john or haven't you got the guts? Personally I think the Montego Turbo was more of a "never was" ie nobody really knew what they were capable of.
Not quite sure about what your comments about never was or never will be were meant to mean but in any case they show that you find it hard to rise above the level of petty tit for tat postings- strangely childish in a man of your advanced years. I note you never in any way acknowledge any of the positive points (and I've put many) about Rovers preferring to dwell on the negative (many again). Not everyone has your blind loyalty to a single manufacturer.
In fact I'd be up for engaging in debate about almost any make of car, objectively, unlike you.

NACRO,
Way off the mark as usual..... there's a Japanese vehicle in my garage right now .... bought new..... I bought my first Honda new in 1964 and sold it recently for four times what I paid for it ..... Will you be able to claim the same for your Japanese vehicle? ..... despite all that residuals con-trick I doubt it ....
Lost count of the other marques I'm now accused by you of having no loyalty for too. I do not exaggerate! I really have lost count.
On this thread and others, you're appear always determined to have the last say in any event apparently so I will again be guilty of not commenting on the rare positive observation you may have made. Because your postings are so lack lustre, dull and above all, totally without a shred of humour. Thus, as you appear to need the last word, go ahead, I shall not bother to respond again even in the unlikely event that a positive observation may contain an element of humour ..... and here I will use one of your words, one of your '**** obsession' words ...... you sad young fart!.....

With regards to the Streetwise, I have heard a lot of people put it down. I will admit it's not a car that I would be interested in buying; however, I think it has a place.
Think of all the SUVs and soft-roaders you see around town that have never been anywhere near a field. Why do their owners buy them? Rugged image? Raised driving position? Scrape resistant bodywork? Well how about all that in a car that doesn't have expensive 4x4 hardware that's never used, doesn't get terrible fuel consumption, doesn't have terrible performance and dynamics, and doesn't take up masses of road!? It's the perfect solution, and I think the "urban on-roader" moniker is a perfect one! It may seem a laughable idea, but it's designed to fit into that gap in the market, and here's the clever bit, heavily based upon an existing proven platform!
I don't think MG-R are under any illusions of it being a company saver, but if they can get extra sales for not much more outlay, plus a raised profile down to them releasing new cars in new sectors, then it can only be good!
How many new cars since Phoenix took the reins? 75 Tourer, ZR, ZS, ZT, ZT-T, R25 van, CityRover, StreetWise... Okay, almost all based on their existing range, but it stops it stagnating and brings in sales while they develop replacements!

Well it looks like the senile old MG John (the **** obsessive who mentions it in almost every post, unlike me) is going to stop trolling on the thread now- good news. Although I'd have liked to have seen him show the courage of his convictions and tell us about the "has been" car-*meow* you *****.
Anyway back on topic, I think it's quite interesting that everyone here who can see some merit in the "streetwise" (PMSL at name) doesn't intend to buy one. One of the cars you mention there I thought was a truly innovative Rover idea the 25 Van, particularly the hot versions. If they can persuade some fleets to take them on then perhaps that will be a success. As far as the Z cars go, as I've said before, the hotter ones deserve to be a success.

Has anybody other than me on this thread really got behind the Streetwise? I don't think it's particularly relevant that nobody has said that they really want one. This is primarily an Impreza board, and more loosely a board for those interested in cars and driving. Let's face it, most people who buy soft-roaders and their ilk aren't interested in driving at all, it's all just show! I think it's a clever idea, and well marketed. However I wouldn't want one in the same way that I don't want a Freelander or a RAV4 or an X5 or a boat or a tea towel! They just don't interest me! If I wanted a 4x4 I would buy an old Defender. For the people who want the looks & the lifestyle without the hassle, it's perfect!
I'm not unduly worried about the general reaction on a baord such as this, it's not the "key demographic" is it!?
Fully agree about the rest of the Z range. ZR especially is not to my taste (not into bodykits), but from what I hear it is a great drive, much tighter than the 25 (which to my mind is pretty good anyway!), and it's been a big hit with the boy racer community. I think MG-R have done a great job of raising their profile with very limited resources...
Unless I got my wires crossed I think you were a bit down on MGJohn's Montego Turbo. Now, don't get me wrong, my Dad had a Montego and it was truly a horrible car! But it was the 1.3 - by all accounts the MGT version was a very different beast! Worth remembering that the quickest 1/4-mile time record for a FWD car is currently held my a Maestro MG Turbo - so they're not all bad!

Actually I haven't got a downer on the MG Montego or Maestro turbo-it was probably the tone of the whole post that gave you that idea, its hard to remain civil when someone (MG John) starts off a round of insults on a thread.
Both are vastly underrated fast cars and now laughably cheap. For someone looking for a Q car at a very low price I think some Rover products like those and the 620Ti fit the bill perfectly.

I don't in any way think that Imprezas are the be all and end all of motoring. I've never said so at all and nor would I. I see them as a cheap way to get a fairly quick car.
As for putting my point of view across regarding rovers and the company I'm perfectly entitled to do it, if you don't like it can I suggest you don't bother reading it, you muppet.
FYI if Rover made a truly decent sporting car I'd be only too happy to own and drive it. So far all they make that appeals to me is the ZT and that's underpowered.
