Ah...
SB _ YHM.
Suffice to say, not BR..... The supplier in question has delivered other parts of the order promptly, but can't source the connector for the knocklink.
I don't want to risk fitting the Dawes without the knocklink, as I'd like to see the readings pre-fitting first.
I've mailed him this morning for an update -

Hi
Anyone else having problems with their new Knocklink?
I'm in the process of fitting mine and can't identify the earth terminal in the Bosch sensor.
According to the destructions it's a simplematter of checking continuity between the body and each terminal. Using one end of a continuity tester on the brass body and probing each terminal, I get NOTHING!!! I know the tester works, so is the sensor faulty???
Cheers

Hi Sean,
You were of course right Knocklink now has lights.
Thanks for the link to your site Ozzy. Looks very useful. I've added it to my faves. for when the gauges arrive.

You can't manage without one if you drive an import or if you've raised your boost.
They cost about £150 with the optional (but recomended) uprated sensor.

Mine turned up yesterday Although if our receptionist had her way, I'd never have seen it. Instead of phoning me and telling me it had arrived, she "put it somewhere safe" stupid bloody woman I'll put it somewhere safe, my dear... then again, probably better attached to my Mule's block
Anyway, thanks to Sean for organising, and BR Developments for supplying. Muchas gracias.

Just had a go at fitting the beast, and once I've got a 12mm socket, there shouldn't be a problem...
However, what about the electrical side? I'm sh!te when it comes to electrics. How I haven't torched the cars I've owned by fitting head units myself is anyone's guess!
Question 1 - Does the Knocklink need its own fuse? If so, WHY THE F!CK DIDN'T IT COME WITH ONE! But seriously, if so, what rating?
Question 2 - Can I Scotch Lock it to another switched power source? I've read posts about the cigarette lighter, but I've currently got a Snooper S6-R Neo feeding power off the front of that. Or doesn't that matter?
Question 3 - If the answer to 2 is yes, can it share the fuse with the cigarette lighter, or would it still needs its own?
I bloody hate electrics! Any help would be nice
Regards,
Ade.

Bearing in mind I needed help with mine, I'll try to answer
Question 1 - Does the Knocklink need its own fuse? If so, WHY THE F!CK DIDN'T IT COME WITH ONE! But seriously, if so, what rating?
I think it's always best to fuse any bits of equipment, just in case. As it's using best part of nothing, maybe a 0.5 amp would do.
Question 2 - Can I Scotch Lock it to another switched power source? I've read posts about the cigarette lighter, but I've currently got a Snooper S6-R Neo feeding power off the front of that. Or doesn't that matter?
I scotchlocked mine to the cig lighter but that would have a hefty fuse on it so I put an in-line fuse just after the join. Working on the assumption that it not only protects the kit but if I route the wire over a sharp edge and it does chafe through the insulation, the fuse will blow before the wire melts, or worse.
Question 3 - If the answer to 2 is yes, can it share the fuse with the cigarette lighter, or would it still needs its own?
See 2
Hope this helps

It has now finally arrived to my chosen (work) address, but as its so much later than expected I can't get it as I'm off on holiday this week!
I'm sure it'll will all be worth it.
Thanks Sean

Fitted Knocklink!!! The sensor is located where everyone seems to advise; beneath the N/S edge of the I/C, replacing the bolt connected to the bracket with a M8 x 40 set screw (and lots of washers... ). The power and ground are connected to the wires at the back of the ciggy lighter (using a 1Amp fuse from Halfords ), via scotch locks. Amazingly, the ciggy lighter still works, I haven't blown any fuses, and the Knocklink has power! I'm almost speechless...
With the sensitivity turned fully clockwise, I get a bright lower green for a split second, when cranking the engine. Whilst driving, I get a flickering lower green above 5K, and a bright lower green flickering second green above 6K, no matter what gear. Does this sound OK? It's a regularly serviced 35K mile MY00...
Regards,
Ade.

Will be fitting mine tomorrow, couple of questions.
1).Does the M8 x 40 bolt come with the kit? If not where can I get one from?
2). For those who have connected wires to the cig lighter did you need to take all the left hand dash and centre console out as per Stefan's instructions?
Cheers,
Si.

Morning sir.
The bolt doesn't come with the kit. Neither does the fuse (don't get me started on that...!) I work for a fastener distributor, so have a warehouse full of screws of various shapes and sizes. Which is nice.
You don't need to take the dash apart. All I did was remove the stereo, and the DIN mounting plate, which gives you easy access to the top of the lighter. I then scotch locked onto the power and ground wires. Piece of cake. You may find problems if you have massive hands though...

Ade.

hmmm - Any ideas what I've done wrong ?
I've connected up the + to the cig. lighter, ground to the ECU Ground Stud. When I put the ignition on I get one green light....
NO MATTER what I do, thats all I get - I DONT think I have the world smoothest running Impreza !
Do the black and brown sensor wires have a polarity ?
Whats happening >

err - I just tried hitting the sensor (sorry- tapping) with the socket driver bar.... I can get all the lights to flick, including red -
I've got the Pot on the top of the display turned fully clockwise - does this mean its OK and the car is actually NOT KNOCKING AT ALL ?
If so, that's good then I guess ....

That all sounds OK to me. Is your car standard or modified? If it's standard, it's been looked after, and you have a fully functional MAF sensor, you wouldn't expect it to knock really.
Mine's behaving exactly the same as yours. Up until yesterday, it was totally standard. Now it has a Hayward & Scott downpipe and silencer Knocklink exactly the same
Regards,
Ade.

I'm fitting a dawes as soon as i've wired the knocklink to my display leds.
Glad they're both good'ns ,
Mark
PS _ If you'd like a look, see the Impreza part of my web site

Keep an eye on your MAF if you're using an ITG filter. Lots of scary reports from people with knackered or knackering MAFs due to excessive oil from the ITG filter. Other than that, don't see any reason why your Knocklink isn't doing its job properly.
Regarding Dawes... Fitted my GBE manual boost controller yesterday. Would have gone for Dawes, but Jamie's web site was playing up at the time I was ready to order. The only problem I had was getting two different sizes of hose. The MBC needs 8mm bore, and the turbo/wastegate nipples need 4-5mm. I still haven't found proper hose, so as a temporary measure I'm using B&Q home brewery clear hose! I don't think it's particularly suited to the temperatures in the engine bay, combined with 16psi...! But it'll do until I find the right stuff.
Anyway, the car is unbelievable. No additional activity on the Knocklink, the AFR still says rich during WOT, and the car just leaps forward. The power feels much smoother as well as being instant. I think this is because the MBC is preventing the wastegate from creeping. Obviously the exhaust fitted on Monday has a big part to play, but I can't believe how a £33 device can help create soooooo much extra power...
I'm really looking forward to lunch time...
Regards,
Ade.
BTW, nice looking motor you have there.

Thanks V Much Ade ( )
I've had the ITG on for a year (20000+ miles), so I reckon it should be OK....
You've made me wish it was the weekend now, so I can get the Dawes on... Hope its as good as you MBC seems to be ....
