i'm very interested in security as i picked up my new MY00 last wednesday and i'd like to keep hold of it !

i've suddenly got very paranoid about where i leave my car !

i considered spending cash on an uprated alarm as i dont know much about the standard one (Sigma ?). Maybe a Clifford Concept 500 / 600 ? Is this worth it or a waste of money ?

also looking at a tracker...AutoExpress did a full test of 6 systems about 6 weeks ago and rated a system called Telematix EGuard Executive number 1...with Navtrak and then RAC Trackstar Guardian in 3rd.

thing is do i want the car back if its stolen ? you never know whats been done to it and its never gonna be worth as much in resale value if you declare it as stolen recovered ? the trackers above are also not cheap at around £550-£800 for installation and 1st years subscription etc

the insurers i tried prior to buying my scooby did not offer any reduction for a tracker. but they did offer reductions if the car was going to be garaged.

its a dilemma as i want to enjoy driving it but will be wary of taking it to some places and leaving it for any length of time, especially at night

can anything be done about the c*ap quality of the standard door locks if they are that bad ?

and can anyone (PhilH ?) give me more info on the barrier deadlock...how much....where from etc.....

i've seen the what car test on their web site and plan to get a disklok as they seem to be a good visible deterrent.

cheers

steve

Steve,

I don't want to over egg the pudding, but being paranoid is OK, up to a point.

Door locks. I understand you can get rid of them altogether and have the holes filled. Of course you then have to rely solely on the remote key.

Barrier deadlock. Look at the top right of the forum we're on and you will see a "search" facility. Click on it and enter the words barrier deadlock. Da naaa, all is revealed! Oh, and if you join the SIDC, the deadlock is advertised in the current edition of True Grip, the club mag.

I've been looking into the Barrier Deadlock and plan on getting it fitted on my MY00 when it arrives. Only some dealers are trained to fit it (my dealer had never heard of it!). Contact the makers, Vehicle Security Installations, on 0151 489 4889 for more info - v. helpful.

Upgrading standard alarm? I wouldn't bother. Fit a tracker, such as the navtrack unit which is now thatcham evaluated.

Hi all. Picking up my 4 door MY00 from Holland at the weekend and am a little excited!
Coming from Europe, it is obviously in need of some added security. Don't think I'll go for a Tracker for the soiled goods reason but want a decent alarm. One security company told me they don't fit alarms manufactured in Taiwan such as Clifford, Toad, Sigma or Laserline due to quality control and reliability (don't Subaru UK fit Sigma?). They prefer Italian and British products and recommend Scorpion. Any thoughts/comments appreciated?

Steve P,

Check this out for a brainwave on getting rid of your door locks. Replace the front ones with back ones, no keyholes!

Its the frameless windows that worry me more that doorlock problems.

Have just had Clifford Concept 600 fitted with 2 x internal sirens and something called a wizard which allows you to 'tune' most of the system to your requirements through PC. Too much to list in terms of spec. but it is the absolute BoXXocks - so much so that I won't be fitting a tracker device.
If you live in the Midlands contact Quicksilver on 0121 773 7000 - no connection to me, they are just VERY VERY good.

Barry, Steve

thanks for the comments.

I aim to please!

Im seriously thinking of going this way myself. Just remember tho, if you have no locks, how are you going to get in if the alarm fails for some reason!

Steve P - Company was called GAP Security

Steve(4Sale) - How much for your Clifford?

All - Had an e-mail from Nick Oakland to say he could do a Sigma M30 or Cobra 7928 for £295 inc VAT & installation. Is that about par for the course?
