Sorry to hear about your loss, but it's all down to how paranoid you want to be!!
My old Subaru (now I've sold it, I can talk about it!)
* Cat 1 Sigma alarm
* Tracker Monitor
* Barrier Deadlock (locks car into reverse)
* Disclok (needs to be fitted on the smaller setting, so it can't be popped off!)
* Locked up in a garage with remote door opener (rolling codes and no handles to force on the door!)
* Linked to the house alarm on a seperate circuit to allow it to be alarmed at night!
I considered having a security post concreted into the garage floor, so even if they opened the door, there was still a post, but I thought it was overkill!!!

- jeez Andy - I guess the next step would be to have a troop of SPETSNAZ posted on your driveway..
Also - not sure if anyone mentioned it above - but it's dead easy to a) locate a tracker or b) by-pass them if you know how they work (I worked this one out by myself and had it confirmed by a security specialist)

SNAP - I'd like to talk to you further about how your Subaru was stolen. Please email me. (I cant find where to PM or email you!)
Many thanks,
Karen

Are you thinking of stealing some cars Karen?
I think the fewer people with this kind of information the better no matter what their intention.

Im sorry, I should have introduced myself. I am a Motor Theft Fraud Investigator dealing with a similar theft. An 03 registered Impreza WRX STi stolen, allegedly, without keys. Im interested if SNAP's car was stolen in similar circumstances and how they hotwired a car that has transponder keys.
It is unusual for a car stolen without keys to be recovered so that the method of entry and theft can be determined.
I am aware this sort of information should not be displayed on a public forum, hence my request for an email.
I am also a modified car enthusiast and may be known from RSOC, Passionford, CRX-UK and Girlracer. (Just so you know Im no stranger trying to get info!)
Many thanks,
Karen

After reading a post the other day about Tracker and now this one, I wouldn't be surprised if Tracker has an unacceptable level of dead units that are fitted in vehicles.
Of course you aren't going to know unless you test it yourself, or it's stolen.
Anybody else with the same thought?

dosenöffner- It's so easy to put the onus on the general public by stating you can pay to get it checked.
Checking it is all well and good but if you have a yearly inspection what's to say the unit won't fail the day after, leaving you with 364 days of a useless Tracker until next inspection day?
Karen, sit here with me, he's trouble.

Hi All,
I had meant to post an update, particularly to earlier members on this thread. However, like some of you, I am wary of letting out information incase it might compromise the security of members - just being careful. Let's see Honda Girl's response, but I can say that so far the biggest headache I HAD was from my Insurance Co. Imagine the most incredibly incompetent, stupid, ignorant, ill informed, "dig hole and then try and get out of it", devious (misplaced), etc, etc types? - I can assure you none of them, combined, would have a patch on this outfit!!!
After almost 8 weeks, and considerable effort on my part to help solve their (apparent)problems the car has been approved for repairs (which were minor). Even now there exists a catalogue of comedy of errors. Since they have come back to me with an appology and are discussing possible compensation, I at least will show correct form and await the final outcome - then tell all, as you all need to be aware of such "high profile" national organisations who are after our custom. There have been fleeting moments when I almost considered the thieves to be more honourable - they at least might own up to being thieves, and only did minor damage.
More later

I had an email from someone called Reza, thought that was you SNAP? I guess not!
I can give you my work email address if that would help? Only I do not wish to put this on my profile on a public forum.
Many thanks,
Karen

Karen,
YHM
Please note that I will share relevant info with fellow Scoobynet members. As you can see from my earlier post, a "fellow member" of your profession wound me up, rather ignorantly and without doing his hoemwork - his mistake.
Cheers

Hello all,
Many thanks to SNAP for the info.
It would appear from my investigations that a bypass of the standard Subaru security systems has been developed by car thieves.
May I suggest that additional security measures are taken (fitting an aftermarket immobiliser).
Also, your tracker systems should be regularly checked to ensure your transmitters are still trasmitting.
I will not post the information I have discovered on this forum as it should not be known publically. Please do not email me for details, they will not be provided. I also do not know the ins and outs of how to steal a Subaru!
Thanks for your time and assistance,
Karen

Karen- It was worth a try.
On the subject of this ere car thieving though.
Don't people realise that they are easily, I repeat easily capable of by-passing all alarms and and the new fandangled key idea?
Trackers in their words are a joke.
The only device they walk away from when there is still a choice is the Disklok. They'd rather find the same spec car elsewhere without one.
These are words from an active prolific car thief who owns and runs cars that would shock you, yes, even Subaru's finest.

Hmmm, admitting to be a car thief eh?! That's very brave!
You are right, there will always be a way round, but hopefully the number of thieves with the right tools and know-how will get smaller and smaller in time, the more sophisticated the security systems get.
I bought my own car as "stolen/recovered" and had to start it with a screwdriver until I fitted a new ignition system. It was frightening how easy it was! However, my car is 10 years old now and security has come a long way since then.
At the end of the day, if they want your car, they will break into your house, steal your keys and drive it away or it will be hitched up to a truck and towed away. No getting round that, unless you live in Fort Knox!

Karen- not me dear, on second thoughts retract that offer of a date, we won't understand each other.
You miss the point though, these guys buy their info, they are cash rich and it seems there is always someone willing to except a bung for information required, and that's not if they don't own the company in the first place!!
Sophistication isn't the deterrant, limiting the amount of knowledgeable people is, so tracing back to the source is easier.

no one is perfect. ppl who steal cars deserve all they get but the only thing is we are the ones that suffer cos we have to try and stop the scum stealing our car, so we buy so called sophisticated alarm systems and trackers to stop them and they just dont work. I bought a wagon just so it wouldn't be as inviting but have still had it tried several times!!!!!
