Cheers Rich - yes, absolutely - as I said on page one of this post, I'm not sure how much actual BHP it's gained, but the gain in torque feels HUGE! For example, I can fly past things from a steady 40mph in 3rd where previously I would have dropped down to 2nd. I rarely find myself revving beyond 6000rpm these days, just because the urge at 3-4000rpm is so addictive; it's easily more torquey than my Golf VR6 was (because of the weight, too, I guess). I've even spun the wheels in 3rd at about 50mph in the wet, and that was with decent grip on the tyres.

Well... me thinks I'll be getting an R-Sport ECU or a Superchip fairly soon then!

Noticed any other changes?!

i.e. altered rev limit, fuel economy, etc...

Seen as tho noones mentioned this thought i would, the clios 172bhp is @ the flywheel and ive seen in GTi mag a feature on these cars tuned up on the rollers producing only 133bhp @ the wheels. So is this 200bhp figure from the flywheel or is it real power @ the wheels?

That's 172PS, not BHP...so more like 168BHP (ish) at the flywheel...

Yup, there were a couple of "duffers" there on the day, but the rest of them made good power.

My mate Paddy's mk2 172 made 152bhp @ wheels and was completely standard!

Check the Renault website or any of the brochures and it IS 172bhp mate!

Also, 172ps is still 170bhp if you do the maths!

WRX I stayed with Saxo boys 270-280 hp Turbo to about 90-95 then he came passed. Also held a 350 hp Volvo T5 R in the first 3 gears on the 1/4 mile and matched a M99 turbo on the same day, some Cups seem to be silly fast in the first 3 gears and match cars you think would thrash it!

Dont cups have a guarenteed (well, as much as they can) output of the specified amount?

ie they make sure the cup engines do put out x amount of power?

Does seem that the Cup engines are all making good power, wheras some 172's (including my mates) don't make as much power as they should do...

Sorry guys but Renault's power claim are always the most spurious in the whole business. I work for a car data company and the Renault power claims are all bollox, the only figure you can trust is the KW figure as that is measured in the same way by all manufacturers.

Using the 124kw figure in Renaults own specs you get 168.5ps or 166.3bhp. Not quite the 172 headline figure I'm afraid, as the 172bhp is quoted as DIN bhp, not the good old SAE bhp we all know and trust. Like I say only use the kw figures.

Something totally differant but i kno that VW always sell themselves short when they release 0-60 figures.

As do Peugeot...

They test the car for 0-62mph (100kmh) and it's for a 1/2 payload, so they run a standard weight car (no removing bits i.e. spare wheel), a full tank of fuel, a driver & a passenger, hence the poor manufacturers times, but when the mags test them they are always much quicker.

So if the Cup's(some of them) are putting out over 172bhp

If you chipped it via superchips or the race tec thing would it not bring the power back DOWN

No, the standard ECU is still setup for a given fuel/ignition setup, but the tolerances on some engines give more power and some give less.

If you alter the settings with a chip or re-mapped ECU then the power & torque will still be improved...
