Oneday someone is going to form a Scoobynet breakaway board where you can talk freely about all aspects of owning a Subaru including where to get cheap bits from. Hopefully it will enable all the crap to be left out about DIY, Sports and washing machines for sale

They spend money, they design the bits, prototype, test, refine and manufacture them.

A copy of the parts will be much cheaper: the copy will have handily bypassed the design, prototype, test and refine stages.
i'm not having a go chiark, i just want to pick up on this point,
i spent four weeks making a subaru bumper from scratch,
i spent well over a month making the mini bonnet scoops, starting with lumps of clay, it took over a month to make a single wiper scuttle panel for a mk2 astra, then storm copied it and are selling them now, i had protection on it and a solicitor said unless its worth hundreds of thousands to protect it its not worth pursuing,
a lot of time goes into grp work, ask rob oneill how much effort and time he put in to his body kit,
i know your going to say prodrive spend this much £....?
but just because something is a replica or an aftermarket part it still has design, refine and manafacture related to it the same as dealer parts,

I do know that this is an issue for both the community, the suppliers, the copyright holders and the moderators.

We are currently thrashing out a policy that is full, inclusive, and stands up to every test we can throw at it.

As you can see, it isn't easy. We need to balance the rights of the copyright holders - who in this instance we believe to be Prodrive because a P1 Front Lip Splitter is a specific part designed by them - with the community's requirements and other suppliers like Fundimental.

I don't want to prejudge what the will decide, but we do have legal responsibilities. it's how we have to act that we're working out.

If this thread had been entitled "New design front lip splitter" and it was mentioned that the design was inspired by the P1 splitter, amonst other things, no-one would have any grounds to complain in my opinion.

Derek (Fundimental) has stated quite clearly that he did the design work and didn't just make a mould of the original item. In my eyes, that makes this part an original and unique and this thread has no problems on that front... We don't allow commercial postings though, which is why this went in the first place coupled with a complaint from Prodrive.

I know it's frustrating, and believe us when we say this is taking a lot of work to get right because it's so emotive. The community does want cheap parts, but we need to ensure the parts are legal and correctly described.

Please please please bear with us for a few days whilst we get this absolutely right.

Finally, if anyone has suggestions on the policy, or can give qualified legal advice, then please either post in policy or mail me.

Cheers,
Nick.

why have a disclaimer on every page?
if you state the views aren't yours, etc, how can you be held responsible,
i done a bungee jump and signed a disclaimer, but if it went wrong and i ended up three feet tall, should i have said scoobynets disclaimer doesn't count so yours shouldn't,
