I had my UK Wagon weighed recently on a weighbridge and with a full tank of optimax was 1320kg.
David W & John B - Thanks for the info regarding power/torque figures for a TD05 with 90deg elbow
David W - If you don't mind me asking, what mods were you running to achieve these figures?
Cheers

Rob: I think we both agree (having actually tried both) that getting good times with a lightened flywheel is more difficult for exactly the reasons you state but I hope with some practice that it is possible to perfect a technique for better launches on the lighter flywheel. The problem with this is that drag starts are pretty violent by their very nature and the more you do the greater the chance of serious drive train damage.
The 1290kg tare for my car is actual. There is a public weigh bridge on the Hull road near you Rannoch.

Regarding the 1/4 mile times and a 340hp scoob getting 12.4 and a 450hp getting a 12.1, surely there was a big difference in the mile an hour which is more important than times when comparing hp.
What mile an hour did the EVO 5 GSR do and what was the mile an hour for the 450hp scoob?
Cheers,
George.

If I were to change to a TD05 on my Type R , along with a FMIC to go with the existing Water Injection I have installed, would my standard injectors still cope with the 330-350bhp??
If I have to change injectors etc I am looking at a number of other changes which means too much money!, so I guess it may not be worth it.

Interesting comments about vehicle weights.
I checked my own on a brand new weighbridge, results here for a '99 UK saloon.

Harvey,
thank you for that - I suspect our cars to be about the same - some lighter bits on mine as standard, but there again I have full aircon to more than make up the difference.
If my car loaded is so much more heavier than Andys, I won't be too disappointed

Tweenie,
I know you didn't rate my start times...however of nine starts at TOTB there were four in the low 1.7s and four in the 1.6s - which according to databases like DSMtimes are pretty much as good as it gets...and many of the DSMtimes cars will be on drag tyres AFAIK!
My car is running a lightened flywheel, not at low as 4.5kg, to be fair, but much lighter than standard.
I was also running an FMIC and a TD hybrid turbo...
...Andy got even better start times (just), and he was running all of the above, AND he has much longer, equal length headers!
Of course, maybe you are using a different benchmark for what is a good start - the very best cars do get times of 1.2-1.5 - but these are usually cars with launch control that are going on to get low 10, high 9 quarters

Lightened flywheels are no good for drag IMO
Next... FMIC!
Not my cup of tea either The loss of acceleration between gears was depressing with the FMIC, this was with the TD05 and then the TD06

Interesting little calculator thingy (for those of us who didn't have access to one before ) here for drag times. Obviously it should come with the usual disclaimers . Presumably perfect gear changes are expected on these things, which wipes most people's times out
Consistent, anyway

Adam,
Most of the calculators are based on HP ATW's. So if you "guestimate" 450bhp, it gives about 10.5's. Still opomistic.

PS The Easystreet Rigoli car did 9.98s/141mph with 550bhp ATW. It also had launch control and a computer controlled autobox. So you flick the switch, hold the throttle flat to the floor and hold on tight when the light goes green!
PPS Another Rigoli car, with a manual box, no launch control, and 499bhp ATF consistently gets around 11.2s - this is a full fat road car and typically runs 400bhp on the road.

Lol Rannoch i am starting to accept them i got out my old Pod slips... How light is your flywheel?? the one i fitted was apparently 5.4kg, i spend all day weighing out 'stuff' and doubt very much that it was over 5kg. So maybe a bad comparison as it was very light..
I think you may be confusing what i have written, i was not saying that the FMIC/Turbo effected launching more that it effected in gear acceleration/gear change. I felt almost Zero lag when using the TMIC for drag racing, i felt loads with the FMIC.. Maybe my FMIC design may have affected this perhaps?? it was a very short pipe run and i managed to straighten it out after some advice..
Did you ever run your car with the TMIC??
I am not saying that it effects start times, andy was quite brutal with his starts by the looks of things which may help with the flywheel.
Rob.

Tweenie,
fair point...about the launches...but overall the combination of things worked.
In terms of drag experience - I think I might have done 5, maybe 6, events, and the only time with a TMIC was with a standard car 4 years ago - so can't really comment.
If the car was being built purely for drag then I think you are probably right - but I like the road, track, sprint, hillclimb possibilities overall so will go for the best compromise.

I had a 4.2kg flywheel on at totb test day, running std UK gearing and a paddle clutch 1 in 4 starts were excellent 3 in 4 were either bogged or spinning the clutch .....not much use for proper drag racing when you are against a light tree and running elimination rounds. Times varied from 11.66 to 12.34
At totb proper, I had a bog STD flywheel and a bog STD clutch. 3 in 4 starts were good (not great) only 1 in 4 did the clutch slip. Times were slightly slower but I had 4 gear shifts on the RA box instead of 3 on the UK. Times varied from 11.70 to 12.01 (except the 12.15 when I missed 5th gear)
I think Sti/wrx gearing would be the best. Closer ratios but still only 3 gear shifts. Flywheel weight I'm still not sure about ??
Oh and Rigolli ran 10.02 on a manual box so no excuses at scooby shootout from the 'big' boys http://www.rigoliracing.com.au/bestets.htm
Also interesting was the 11.5@127 from a 356bhp paw figure, sounds familiar
I would however take their power readings with a pinch of salt as they 'appear' to be flash readings ? http://www.rigoliracing.com.au/551hpwrxdynosheet.html

Andy, i dont think i'm gonna be able to keep things going whilst you are away, i just cant put it into words like you can
I also think the Norris power figures are a bit
771hp hmmmm.. Good for business advertising i suppose, not quite as good when you have to walk the walk.
I have spoken to my mates Tony & Dominic and they are too busy too attend

Andy,
Doesn't my engine have to be RUN on the dyno FIRST, before I can make any claims
Someone just asked me why you appear to be so obsessed with what I'm doing, and what figures I may have had, or may, or may not get, when I never post anything about them ????
Two suggestions were made. Either you suffer from "Aspergers Syndrome", or, you're just a sad, egotistical n0b.........
I know where my money is
Mark.
Me thinks Norris is kidding himself, maybe he uses the same bench dyno as Lateral
