I am lucky never to have been hooked on any kind of drug harder than cigarettes and the occasional drink. When I started smoking there was no clue that is was in any way bad for you except that it might slow you down a bit if you were a sportsman. We were left in no doubt that hard drugs as well as Cannabis were bad for your health and would shorten your life. None of us wanted to be taken over by such an addiction or lose control of ourselves by their use. It took a long time to kick cigarettes and if I had known about their effects on health I would not have started on that either.

I wonder why young people feel the need to experiment with drugs now. Are they trying to imitate their peers or is it to bolster their personalities up when in company. Is education about the dreadful effects and eventual fall into the abyss completely lacking these days. Why do the people "at the top" use them? Do they want to feel that they can get away with anything and it is the smart thing to do?

We know that drugs are more at the root of evil behaviour than anything else. Unless the authorities really get hold of the problem instead of just playing at it and even making it easier to get into that culture, this civilisation of ours will completely disappear down the tubes and we will be living in a "Mad Max" world.

I think there is a HUGE class & age divide in the way drugs are taken and thought of.

Of all the people I know (28- 45 age group) only one had a bit of bother with charlie - cost him his job & now he's fine.

People I know who take drugs (most people I know in fact...) have a little tickle now and then (E or charlie usually) and that would be it for a week or two or longer. Hardly an issue for the nanny state or to justify having a police Beagle sniffing up your **** in Soho of an evening as you cross the road...

I think people who take drugs to escape from life or something, rather than just to be a bit naughty or super chatty or nice-buzzy should tread carefully. Sometimes however its nice to leave your bog standard, run of the mill self behind for a few hours and be super-you!

i used to be heavily into them and last weekend i had a wee incident. just didnt float my boat anymore never again i just needed to see what it was like after all this time. only good part about it is i rang someone and talked pure drivel down the fone to me and now thinks im great made the pain of my jaw back and legs worth it on sunday

 

I think cigs contain one of the worst drugs available. Nicotine is that addictive that people can't quit the cigs even when they want to. Add in the other harmful content of cigs and just because it is legal you are fooling yourselves. It's all about perception folks. IMHO it should be up to the individual to choose what they wish to do to their bodies. People should be able to educate themselves and decide if taking drugs (of any kind...including alcohol) is for them.

We are meant to live in a free country but in fact there is very little we can do without breaking some stupid nanny state law. 11pm pub closing....... what a joke that is in the 21st Century!!

 

I have regular contact with people who are under the influence of different substances and in my experience when something bad goes off, it's alcohol which is the main cause. My view could be tainted by the fact that far more people drink alcohol than take 'hard drugs', i'm not sure.

The cannabis/E/lsd/coke etc users just seem to be happy if a little bit of a pain in the a$$ lol. All types take it.

Heroin/smack/etc users just seem to be looking for something to steal. Usually of 'lower class' but not always.

People pissed out of the heads seem to be ok but you do get a fair few who lose it. All types drink.
