Thermal paste is what you'll need to ensure the heat from the cpu is tranfered well to the heat sink and fan.
Here's a link to some.

Soulgirl, since you are gonna be running that cpu out of spec (920-ish mhz fsb), what heatsink and what voltage are you going to be running through the cpu to ensure 100% stability? What stress tests do you use before giving the machine to the end user? Not meaning any of that at all in an arsey way at all I assure you, just curious, but I know you have a good idea of this stuff too

Nick

Standard voltage because the yeilds are so good on these 2.6c CPU's. Standard heatsink is all thats needed though we add an additional case fan to make sure things run extra smooth.
We've build over 10 of these machines to date, all running at 3GHz with no problems at all. All these machines also ran both Prime 95 and 3D mark for 48 hours solid without a single lock-up.
Hope that answers your questions
PS: The machine Im typing this on is running at 3GHz

Nah, that's fine, good to see someone else on here paying attention to detail . You have a good idea just how many of these guys try overclocking on here, but simply don't have the patience or attention to detail to do it right . Shame really.
3d mark 2k1 and prime95 are the 2 fav weapons of choice here too. By far the very best ways of making sure that you have a sorted pc. Just try getting normal users to be patient enough to run the tests for decent amounts of time tho

Just to add, my latest chip is a 3.0C, but a Costa Rica, which unfortunatly seems pretty spanking new to these shores. You know the stories about Malay P4's always being better clockers than the Coat Rica or Phillipino ones etc. Guess I will soon find out when the Mach II finally lands on my doorstep. My old malay 3.06 rig is sitting happily in Portugal at about -20 atm.

I've just put a new CPU into my system, can anyone suggest what test I should run to check everything is ok?
Prior to upgrading I ran a memory tester on the desktop PC which ran fine for a few hours without issue. I was told to check this as a faster CPU could find issues with memory not seen previously.
regards,
greg

Personnaly Evesham have better build quality and customer support etc. I have a evesham and mine is fantastic, I would also recommend mesh. A friend of mine bought a time with a good spec and he ended up taking it back a number of times due to faulty memory faulty, hard drive, CPU overheating etc etc etc
The main consideration when it comes to video editing is firstly RAM and lots of it preferably DDR
Secondly hard drive size.
Personally I do not think the CPU is that important really, Pentium is usually better for graphics etc and run at lower temperatures.
