Question

If the TMIC is some sort of inherent design weakness, and FMICs have been put onto scoobs by various persons, is there a Prodrive (ie official Subaru warranty-keeping) FMIC conversion? I didn't think so, yet it seems to be a logical way of getting some form of increased performance - as well as a stealth look.

If not - can Mike say why not? Development / conversion costs considered too high for punters?

Sammy...

Can't remember it saying "0-60 in 4.6 secs (if not heatsoaked - in which case its only 0.2 secs quicker than a std STI 7)" in the Prodrive bumph

The EVO just did what it was supposed to do.. f@cked off asap.

Another reason to buy an EVO

Guys, guys, guys!! Reality Check!
If I am reading this "my dads bigger than your dad" post correctly we seem to be arguing about figures of tenths of a second!, I for one am absolutely sure that in the real world without gps speed detection devices no one would notice the difference, and then throw in driver ability and it is even less important,
Keep it real

Jza

In which real world driving scenario do you sit around for at least an hour, getting everything nice and hot, then expect the car to give optimal performance when it's got the intercooler sat on top of a hot engine?

As with all our current performance packages, we have put in temperature protection to stop the engine getting itself into trouble at high temps and I suspect that the ECU had the boost pegged back in the lower gears until the intake temperature reduced to safe levels. Hence the slower than expected figures.

Wink

I'm surprised the EVO didn't run out of petrol before the end of the test... Or need a service.

Fair enough mike...

But Prodrive must be embarresed by the figures printed in a national magazine... seeing as your only "assuming" it was because it was hot....

I think there are 2 reasons why subaru have stayed with the TMIC,

1. With the flat four low engine layout with lots of room on top it is cheaper to engineer, but more probably
2. The brand image with the bonnet scoop

Not embarrassed, more frustrated really as I can go outside and get 4.6 all day long without trying.

Mike - really? So whats your daily consumption of clutches like then?

Anyway, I thought it was more interesting how much difference there was running up to 100 mph than the splitting-hairs 0-60 times.

Having seen MikeW hammer his STI8 PPP round Castle Combe all of last Wednesday I can well believe his statement.
