They should not need to speed on the road sections. IIRC all road sections will be timed at a low average speed ... somthing like 20mph average and will have extra time for traffic lights etc. added.

There is no excuse for them to be speeding between stages and why should they be exempt from the law when they are travelling on a public road with other road users present. The times are set on the stages and not on the road sections. Rediculous

International events use international timing so that road sections are timed from stage start to stage start.

If you have a problem in a stage, or need to change the wheels/tyres round, change a puncture, affect repairs, get stuck in spectator traffic. Then, you want to stretch your legs when you get to the stage, have a wizz, check the tyre pressures etc. Take all this into account and you have very little time for the road section.

I know the chap who drives one of the course closing fronteras and he said he was driving down to the Superspecial in Cardiff and the rally cars were coming past him at silly speeds setting every camera off they could find.

The drivers are under so much presure from manufacturers, sponsors etc etc, that they aren't going to risk a world championship for the sake of sticking to speed limits. Particularly when the majority of them can only be fined anyway.

Naughty boys, for sure, but they are still f***ing great in my eyes!

Yes so they broke the law but how many people did they hurt? None from what we can see in the press so maybe the speed limits are set to low and the enforcement of them is not as important as the other Police duties? Burglary detection for example running at 6% i believe?

Just another example of the Welsh Police alienating vistors and motorists in the pursuit of a fundamentally flawed theory.

at the end of the day , if i can get done so should every one else who breaks the law , end of story !!

Yes but what is the point of having limits set so low that they have no reason and no credability yet all over the UK the Money grabbing councils are lowing the speed limits and then saying as people now break the reduced limit they need a speed camera from which they and the Police rake off a percentage.

At least this stupid situation is being high lighted and if the WRC moves else where maybe some politcian will sack that idiot Brunstorm and the Police can get back to the jobs we pay the wages for them to do and catch people who are commiting crimes with actual victims.

It'd be interesting to see what the implications are on holding the UK WRC round in Wales. If the WRC organisers could step in with a "ban our drivers, lose your rally" I bet they'd get let off

Possibly the 2004 rally will be held in another area, so to avoid such daft behaviour by over zealous powers at be...Cumbria, Derbyshire, Lancashire to name but a few...all have hilly bits, trees, muddy bits nd wet bits.

Thats going to endear WALES to the rest of the world isnt it.

Richard, according to Motor Sports Association rules (the governing body of British motorsport) Rule K7.1(a) A competitor must, if driving in the event, hold a current valid driving licence apropriate to the vehicle.

If a british driver gets banned they are not entitled to compete in any British motorsport event governed by the MSA and must return their competition licence until the ban is over.

Now if you have an FIA licence and are in with the big boys, obviously you get treated diferently.

It is not a dig at the Welsh but at the Idiots who run the Police Force in South Wales. Yes the law applies in England as well and we have idiots running some of the Police forces there but i hope and Pray that not all Police forces have yet been corrupted by the Speeding fine revenue being more important than catching Muggers and car jackers and burglars. And therefore as years past they would use a sensible approach to speed limit enforcement.

John - yes it was K7.1 that I was quoted by the nice lady at MSA HQ IIRC

Having been first on the scene at a RTA on the 2000 Welsh Historic where a comp car on a road section hit a member of the publics car I changed my attitude towards how "we" drove on non-comp sections. The member of the public and her unborn child died at the scene and the navigator in the historic rally car (a Volvo Amazon) died in Hospital

It was caused by speeding according to the reports

Now I'm no saint but a rallies a rally and not worth risking license or worse on.. it may be different in the multi-million pound industry that is WRC though..
