Agree entirely Steve. WTF does "moral obligation" have to do with anything?? History is history, not something people can drag back up at a later date to vindicate their cause, imo. We reached the point when we should have said Enough is Enough about ten years ago, possibly sooner.

What we all have to realise I think is that this government has no interest in the welfare of its citizens. Everything is done for the sake of image, either to impress to rest of the world with its "compassion" thus saving them all a problem, or to try to make us believe that they are taking appropriate action to improve our lives while they are really doing nothing that will change anything for the better.

Of course genuine asylum cases should be protected but the situation is beyond a joke now. Eventually we will be falling off the edge of this grossly overpopulated land. Our economy is going to the wall trying to support it all. This country can only do so much to help the persecuted, and we have reached that boundary some time ago. Any more will be self-destructive and will help nobody.

Are you all saying that it would be better to send them back?
Yup. Sorry buddy but majority rules and if the masses say she goes back, she goes back. Just because a dog is born in a stable does not make it a horse. This is the point everyone here is trying to make..

I think that because of the history of England, being a big colonial state (or whatever you want to call it), it has a responsibility to take care of people that are from nations not so well off.

The western world wouldn't be so rich, if it wasn't for the fact that they went out in the world and essentially robbed all the wealth from other countries and brought it home.
FFS I seen some ludicrous claptrap derived from tunnel vision in the past but that must take the biscuit

1. Using the same "logic" most Europeans and Asians should have a absolute right to descend upon Italy as the Romans stole their wealth!

2. If your English history was a little more detailed you would also be aware that a select few profited from this so called wealth. The average citizen was subject to similar deprivation and injustice as those in the colonies.

3. Had the corrupt officals & govenments of developing nations focused upon the national interest rather than ammasing personal wealth there would not be such an economic chasam between the West and the rest.

IMHO If the BNP is to be marginalised slightly more objectivity is required.

Katana, are you being being racist towards a non-indigenous Brit there? Have you no compassion with the mess that once was Vietnmam and our complicity in that? Have a heart man. Those poor people suffered terribly.

As to all economic migrants and other chancers we should bolt the door firmly. Having a bit of compassion is not about being the saviour of the world. The government needs to be fair to the existing citizens and their continuing increased taxation and the burden put upon them.

What a mess we are in.

Banshi: yeah ok, fair point i guess My english history could be a bit better...

I do agree on the point of economical immigrants, although i guess in a sense I am one myself (except I came from the EU and had a job already before I got here).

What I find really annoying though, is the fact that every time I go out somewhere outside of the M25, everyone keeps looking at the both of us, thinking that my wife is some 'mail order bride', or soemthing. We're both 23 ffs! I guess this is due to slight racism, which in turn is due to the lax policies that many people do not agree with in the UK

And as for you, Katana, you suck monkeypole *rolleyes*

Yeah yeah, here comes the race card again. I'm just saying that you're in the minority here. If you aint with us, you're against us.

My mates Popeye and STIShrek would vouch for this.

The entire thing sickened me

My opinion is that if someone is willing to work and not only help themselves but help the country and if they are willing to fit into the UK society then they are more than welcome.

If they're not then they can F*CK OFF !!

Question

And how many people do you continue to say that to until you have enough RB170? Or isn't there a ceiling as far as you're concerned?

No ceiling just keep going

What should this country support people who are not willing to support themselves?

Same for dole slackers, if they're not willing to find work then give them work to do

Henrik

You are both here legally so really don't fit into this particlar definition of economic migrant.

The rules have been flouted by "visitors" from the colonies for years. But the current media focus will harden peoples attitude to even the most deserving of cases.

In truth I have some sympathy for people who are trying to improve their prospects and not simply seeking a handout from the state. Other countries deal more effectively with this problem and anger should be directed at the governments not the individual.

BTW Are you sure about this mail order bride thing?
Maybe they're just admiring an asian beauty, I'm sure I would

I get the impression the majority or asylum seekers are heading for England, correct?
Do you think it's partly down to a language situation, English being easier to learn or more of a common language than say Spanish or French?

"If you aint with us, you're against us"

That is just typical naive George Dubya Bush style, rabble rousing, 'diplomatic' language! And what of the hundreds of opinions and views between 'against' and 'with'... Life just aint that simple.

I aint having a go at Katana here as we actually pretty much agree, but lets look nice and informed about it ?

To answer the above I believe Its because the UK has an inherent ‘perceived’ history of racism and xenophobia (true or not), so 'they' (HMG etc) are trying to keep a lid on what's already happening and has been for years i.e. immigrants/asylum seekers being attacked, racial abuse, all the usual parochial names people used for the subservient 'slaves' of the good ol UK; pa**, chin**, ni**** etc, only they aren’t being subservient anymore. The indigenous white people of this country have a lot of making up to do in my book before we can ever have peace.

scoobydooooo: Actually, I think it is not just paranoia... some people blatantly stare, but never mind (Maybe it's like banshi says )

As for the flag problem; definitely, 'we' have the same problem in Sweden. Kids in many Swedish schools are not allowed to sing the Swedish anthem and many don't allow the Swedish flag either. This of course stings a bit in peoples' minds... (and I totally agree).

The thing is, it's gotten so bad in Sweden now that if you wear the Swedish flag on say a jacket, people automatically assume that you are racist. I would *never* wear a flag on anything in Sweden, because if I did I would almost certainly get in trouble if I went out drinking, which is totally insane

stuckhere: I don't know the numbers, but big parts of the world speak better French than English (e.g. big parts of Africa)

banshi: I agree about hardening attitudes, because I've seen this in Sweden as well (Sweden has a lax attitude as well, just that most asylum seekers don't know about it, it seems). It's unfortunate, because as you say, there are real asylum seekers that need (and should be given) help.

Sorry for rambling on about Sweden, just thought I'd give the thread a bit of an international touch

Well said Henrik, a restrained reply if ever I heard one. Why do people who know **** all about race problems and have never experienced them think they can shout bull***t and paranoia when someone who has suddenly tells them they feel this country is 'perhaps' slightly racist. Of course the UK is feckin racist; we (this country) set out by conquering half the globe and making their land ours..... FFS read a few history books or travel with the next world cup squad, and make sure you know all the feckin songs btw.

edited for restrained reply, p.s. I wasnt born here, but have lived here all my life and consider it home k.

My father was an immigrant and I'm a keen fisherman, so what exactly are you trying to say. This is the kind of crap that makes the UK a racist nation. Comments like immigrant scum will only cause problems to become exacerbated. You should be ashamed of yourself using that kind of language. I rest my case.

I think that in the future, some British people will get fed up of the whole situation and bugger off to another country themselves. Our taxes are being squandered, the country is being run by a Liar, we are over run with illegal immigrants and the weather is sh1te. Fantastic!

This once 'Great Britannia' is no longer what it was and is going downhill, fast. But hey, whats the point in getting stressed, theres nothing we can do to stop it.

This once 'Great Britannia'

When was that then, you must be 200 years old if you can remember it. That’s the problem, wake up and realise, the UK is nothing like it used to be, were practically a third world country and people would rather sit and talk about this 'once great nation' than get along with change.

This country has only it self to blame and that seems gets on folks ****, lets blame everyone else except us, LOL.

I think you'll find that you only have to be old enough to remember pre WW2 ....but hey, let's not let facts get in the way of a good arguement

You're good at blaming the English for Scotland's problems, and where's the evidence?

Yes Jye, we know.

Everyone, lighten up ffs! This country will never strive like it did waaaaaaaaaaaaay back then. It's only going to get worse.

I'm going to start a book on who buggers off abroad first. My money is on big Tone. Next May. Guaranteed.

You're good at blaming the English for Scotland's problems, and where's the evidence?
Its not so much the English now, but it was the English monarchy that crumpled Scotland. Edward I (I think) invented the UK and was ruthless enough to get it. BUT LETS NOT GET INTO THAT, I DONT WANT TO START AN ARGUEMENT.

Cool

Who mentioned Scotland in Dave, or is this another thread you’re bringing up? Are you on the 'attack' now Dave? LOL

I've heard your kind of small minded prattle before Dave, many times. Start off all nice and reasonable then the name calling starts when you have nothing more to add. Call me a plonker if it makes you happy, feel free. And I'm not Scottish btw, I'm a UK citizen.

Next question Dave.
