Yeah i totally agree, and the mags probably drive it like it's going to be binned the next day, with not a care or thought for it maybe lasting as long as private owners light do.

I think being conservative with the figures is far more realistic for anyone to be getting themselves.

Is it possible to do the same for the 'hot' hatch Ibiza TDi Sport, as this is gettign rave reviews on other sites when chipped.

FWD 1190kg

130bhp allegedly standard
140bhp is what most seem to be acheiving as standard
150bhp is what the standard Ibiza Cupra RD is to be soon
170bhp for a lower boost set up
180bhp for most of them
190 for shorter stints

It's interesting to see the cars with limited power in 1st and 2nd gears are getting even higher speed predictions from you compared with tests. I'm thinking in particular the 147GTA and Focus RS, which have both been tested a lot recently again by the mags.

This week the GTA was tested at 14.1secs 0-100, whereas your calculation is 15.88. That's over a second and a half different, all i'm asking is does your calculation take the way the power is transfered and tration part of the equation, or are all FWD calculated with the same method of traction/power ?

There was a mad dutch gocart that had 130bhp i think and only weighed 170kg with driver i think (again), so presuming the gearing allowed a high enough top speed to reach 100mph, what might its times be ?

Cheers

Rich, glad to here you have your new pocket rocket, hope its run in.
Yeah, just approcahing 1000miles now and I ran it in gently for the first 600 miles, as per the handbook recommendation...

Still gonna be tight though and take a while for it to loosen up and run to it's full potential, but it's definately got better already.

Looks like my figures are not miles apart then.
Yeah, not far off.

I will be very interested to know what you acheive if you get a go, long wait at USC remember...
Well, we're setting off at 6:30am tommorrow morning (from the NW) and will be getting there mid-morning, pitching camp and running after lunch.

It's always a lot quieter on the Friday, so we can get the runs in then with less waiting about and just watch on Sat & Sun, as we did last year.

and it will be hot too!
Very hot!!!

But, that is not gonna help as I've heard that Clio's suffer in the hot weather (large engine, small bonnet), so it may not be a good day for fast times.

According to the forecast though, it will not be as hot on Friday and may be slightly cloudy, then sunny & hot for the rest of the weekend, so this will be ideal.

I've heard of Cups doing very high 14s so good luck.
I know a lad called Tim with a modded Cup and he ran 14.0secs dead at York 2 weeks ago!!!

Nothing major either, just zorst, de-cat, chip & filter, but it made 198bhp on the rollers.

His brother has one too with similar mods, he ran 14.2 and there were others running mid 14's so there's the potential for a quick time.

But, my car is still pretty new & tight, it's my first time so not used to the car and it will be hot, so I'm not expecting a brilliant time...

Let us know how you get on.
Will do!

Got a race with an Ibiza Cupra and a Rover 220 Turbo Coupe (my mates cars), so see how I do against them.

FreeT - here's the figures for the Ibiza:

Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 130 1190 111 9.51 31.00 21.49 17.98 @ 76.54
Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 140 1190 120 8.90 27.86 18.96 17.36 @ 79.34
Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 150 1190 128 8.38 25.32 16.94 16.83 @ 81.94
Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 170 1190 145 7.54 21.51 13.96 15.97 @ 86.61
Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 180 1190 154 7.20 20.04 12.84 15.62 @ 88.72
Seat Ibiza Tdi Sport 190 1190 162 6.89 18.80 11.90 15.30 @ 90.68

Type R 5 - I really need to know the weight of your car?
But if the car weighed say 1280kg then a modified true 305bhp comes up as:
Subaru Impreza Si 305 1280 242 4.24 10.00 5.76 12.53 @ 112.50

this figures are coming out faster than real life I would guess, even on a proper drag strip, maybe their weight is more?

Rich, a tuned 198bhp Cup comes up as...
Renault Clio Sport Cup 198 1011 199 5.92 15.50 9.58 14.32 @ 96.61
so again not too far off, maybe the cup is actually lighter?
Anyway, have a good weekend, let us know.

Cool

Thanks for that, could we try something silly now and put in a 4WD 1000bhp Bugatti at about 1500kg and that go cart at say 130bhp and 170kg ?

STEVE

The listed curb weight is 1260 for the Version 5 Type R
It is also a genuine 305bhp

Gives me something to go at................
Only managed a 13.0 when I tried for the first time last year.

He's removed some of the interior & stuff, and it weighs 960kg apparently, so try with that weight...

Anyway, have a good weekend, let us know.

Wow there must be some amount of andvanced mathematics involved to devise a suitable formula for this! I'm still struggling to convert the weight of my car from tons to kilos!

Anyway, would you be able to put the figs for my car into the formula?
Here they are:
Model: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V
Power @ Wheels: 269.5bhp
Power @ Flywheel: 345bhp
Weight: 1380 kilos

Thanks

James

Thumbs up

Rich, here you go:

Renault Clio Sport Cup 02 198 960 210 5.71 14.88 9.16 14.12 @ 97.90
Not far off...

He ran 14.0 last time out!

I'll be at USC now on Sunday, but in the Pulsar, not running - far too hot, i'll look out for you.
Well, I ran it, in mentally hot weather, with only 1,257 miles on the clock (when I did the first run) and the car had all the standard trim/interior fitted (nothing removed), plus I was still carrying a disklok, a bag of charcoal and a massive coolbox (1/2 full of water/ice) with beer, food, drinks, etc... in there, so a fair bit of extra weight.

Even like that I ran 15.071secs @ 92.46mph as my best run!!!

Only did 2 runs though and my slower run was 15.167secs @ 91.69mph so I'm pleased with that result.

I actually forgot it was all in the boot when I did my runs and only remembered when I wanted a beer and the coolbox wasn't in the tent!

Saw quite a few Pulsar's there actually, what colour is yours?!

Standard 1/4 mile according to the Autocar roadtest from 5th August 1987 is 16.0secs @ 86mph

I know, I have one too!

Dave, here's the figures based on 830kg...

Renault 5 GT Turbo 88 120 830 147 7.47 22.17 14.71 15.95 @ 85.23

My ol man use to own a GT Turbo, and I never believed the 7.3 seconds to 60, I didn't see too many magazine acheive that, and on re tests don't see too many either. Anyway the 1/4mile is closer on my figures.

Rich, Mine's the black one (like most!)......has STV in the number plate and runs 15inch OS Superleggeras. I saw you run (and another cup too), very impressive considering the heat (!) the mileage and first time out.

Must have had fuel in when Autocar measured it?!

Not driven my R5 for months now and it's just sat in the garage gathering dust, so I should probably sell it as it's a waste to leave it there.

It's a second car for me and I don't have the time to mess with it at the moment and also running 2 fast cars is not cheap, so it's just in limbo at the moment.

I do pop on RTOC every now & again for a look, but aint really posted much for a while...
