Rich, fair enough, but those times are so quick for a Rallye. York strip is obviously very quick, must see if I can beat my best Pulsars's 12.76sec (Santapod) there some time. I still don't see where, theory, or no theory, the Rallye gets its speed from over a 6, unless the the BHP is more or the weight even less than you said. Most of the hot hatches, 6 speed or not, are not that far out compared to the theory figures, so what makes the Rallye so quick? Maybe they produce more when "well run in"?
Might starting running my 6 up some strips too. I'll recheck the figures using the rwd formula, to see what it comes up with, this allows for less wheel spin than fwd, it will reduce the time somewhat.
Have you had your car on a rolling road, I would be interested to see whats its doing BHP wise? I've heard that the GTi-6 engines in fact push closer to 155 (what they quote for the S16) instead of the quoted 167, which confuses me even more.
Anway, Re the other requests, I'm at work at the moment so i'll have a look when I get home tonight

Well, it was bl00dy quick for a Rallye, but so is my mate Pete's one!
Had it on the rollers and it does make very good power, as it ran 142bhp @ wheels as totally standard, then I swapped the standard air filter (which was old) for a new Peugeot Sport Group N replacement element (£15 +VAT) and re-ran it again.
This time it pulled 151bhp @ wheels!!!
Here's the printout >>>
There's a 16% loss for the GTi-6 & Rallye, so that equates to:
Standard - 142bhp @ wheels = 169bhp @ fly
Group N - 151bhp @ wheels = 179bhp @ fly
Now that is a powerful example and Pete's is making 155bhp @ wheels with the same filter as me, but a cat back Magnex, so again another good example and we get very similar 1/4 mile times.
I actually reckon Peugeot are telling porkies about the Rallye and they *must* weigh more than 53kg less than a GTi-6 and/or they all push out slightly more power, as that small weight difference alone can't account for the differnce in performance!
But, I sold it 2 weeks ago and got a brand new Clio Cup, so let's hope this Cup is a "good 'un" too...

Right, I can see why you were so fast now, give me an hour before I can try it at home, and i'll use the 179bhp on the formulas, that will reduce it far closer to what you've acheived I'm sure...
You'll have to let me know how you get on with the Clio Cup up the strip too, cheers.

Andy, the F1 cars were'nt allowed to have a go at the hill record this year, which incedently is held by Nick Heidfeld in a Mercedes McClaren F1 car a set a few years back.
Mind you that hillclimb car was only a couple of seconds adrift - that 900BHP Toyota was pretty impressive too!

Rich,
the rallye figures, now with 179bhp and 1163kg calulate as...
Peugeot 306 Rallye 2.0 (fwd formula) 99 179 1163 156 7.10 19.70 12.60 15.52 @ 89.20
Peugeot 306 Rallye (using rwd Formula as example) 99 179 1163 156 6.79 18.59 11.81 15.21 @ 90.89
as you can see, allowing for decent traction (have you got grippy tyres?) and using the rwd formula its far closer.
Here's all the other calculations people requested:
New Astra Gsi 200 1275 159 6.99 18.97 11.98 15.39 @ 90.51
Impreza 2.0 Turbo UK 98 470 1235 387 3.05 6.72 3.66 11.18 @ 129.67
(mega power!...i personally think the scoobs weigh more than 1235kg though, I'd like to see one on the scales again becuase CCC mag measured one, and even with fluids it was alot more)
Audi S4 01 395 1512 265 3.93 8.73 4.80 12.14 @ 118.50
cheers

Yeah, I had Toyo Proxes on the front, it was bone dry, I warmed them up first and I had been practicing my launches, so I can get off the line very well with little or no wheelspin.
The rwd time of 15.21secs @ 90.89mph is nearly identical to the 15.195secs @ 89.59mph that I actually got, so that's some clever maths!
When I ran it partially stripped (no spare wheel, rear seats removed, etc...) then I managed to get 14.837secs @ 92.97mph, so clearly the weight loss made a good difference!
Going to USC at Santa Pod in 2 weeks and will be running the Cup, but it's only just over a week old now and has 400 miles on it, so I need to get some more miles on it before then, as I am currently running it in.
You going?! Take the 306...

John, here you go, re-calculated with 450bhp and 1320kg which is more like it....
Impreza 2.0 Turbo UK 450bhp 98 450 1320 346 3.25 7.15 3.90 11.40 @ 126.87
Still very quick if it has that genuine power! TOTB then?

I can also raise the power to say 220bhp, stipped again, to run..
Peugeot 306 Rallye (using rwd Formula as example) 99 220 1090 205 5.39 13.68 8.29 13.77 @ 100.84
...and finally over the 100mph terminal speed.

"Ten OF The Best" 2 - the 2nd event of its kind, held at Elvington next weekend. Test of the best modified cars in the UK from each club fighting each other out over 1/4mile, a coned track and top speed runs. Very serious stuff!
Check out http://trackdayplus.co.uk/ for more info on the event, and look at the entrants!

Here you go, based on the formulas the figures come up as:
Impreza 2.0 Turbo UK 97 400 1220 333 3.33 7.56 4.23 11.53 @ 124.10
(as mentioned early, I personally don't believe the Scoobs weigh this low, but with a genuine 400bhp it will be very fast)
Ti Andy 350 1350 263 4.98 11.36 6.37 13.23 @ 108.48
Simon220 215 1180 185 6.23 16.25 10.02 14.62 @ 95.32
Does anyone want a list of different power levels for your car, eg like the Fiat Coupe bit earlier. If the theory figures are slightly out then I can adjust the formulas to quote exact figures for your car before adjusting the power.

rapac - i take it back, if you've had it weighed as 1220 then I'm very impressed, certainly with that sort of power. When you say its close, sorry is that sarcastic or is it realy close to your times? Another totb entry then?
#52
"Sarcastic" its not on my dictionary.
It was 12sec with lots of wheel spin on 1st and some on 2nd.
Slicks would make a difference.
Lots of Subis here in OZ will pull flat 12s with 350+hp on the fly.
Cheers

Thanks mate. Car is a Rover 220 turbo.
My best quarter is 14.7 @95.6 mph, so the quarter mile times sounds accurate.
Dont think it takes another 1.5 sec to do 5mph though.
What sort of performance would 230 ,250 and 280 bhp get?
Cheers

Simon, i've set the formulas up to allow for 1 person driving of "average weight" of about 80kg/200pounds. So if anyone is on the much larger scale (no offence)then advice me to put excess on top of the cars kg if you really want
Anyway, the figures for the 220 come up as:
Rover 220 197 1180 170 6.66 17.88 11.22 15.06 @ 92.23
Rover 220 220 1180 189 6.13 15.86 9.73 14.51 @ 96.12
Rover 220 250 1180 215 5.61 13.98 8.36 13.96 @ 100.45
Rover 220 280 1180 241 5.23 12.63 7.40 13.55 @ 104.11
cheers

How about for a Seat Leon Cupra R with FWD, weighing in at 1376kg for the new 225bhp and then some variants of 250bhp / 265bhp / 280bhp / 300 bhp & finally 350bhp ?
You have the standard 210 down as ;
Seat Leon Cupra R 210 1376 155 7.15 19.35 12.21 15.54 @ 90.04
This seems rather conserative given that even the slowest mags results are 7.2secs to 60mph & 18.4secs to 100mph, with the best nearer 6.5secs to 60mph & 16.5 secs to 100mph ?
Thinking about getting one myself.
Any thoughts on this, ta muchos in advance

OK, know problems mate, don't mind someone bringing up my old topic, here's the figures for the different power outputs based on what it predicts from my original figures:
Seat Leon Cupra R 210 1376 155 7.15 19.35 12.21 15.54 @ 90.04
Seat Leon Cupra R 225 1376 166 6.77 17.83 11.06 15.14 @ 92.63
Seat Leon Cupra R 250 1376 185 6.25 15.83 9.58 14.60 @ 96.50
Seat Leon Cupra R 265 1376 196 5.99 14.88 8.89 14.33 @ 98.60
Seat Leon Cupra R 280 1376 207 5.77 14.07 8.30 14.09 @ 100.55
Seat Leon Cupra R 300 1376 222 5.51 13.16 7.65 13.81 @ 102.96
Seat Leon Cupra R 350 1376 258 5.03 11.48 6.44 13.28 @ 108.12
And here's the figures its predicts when I adjust the standard 0-60 to 6.5secs with the same different power outputs.
Seat Leon Cupra R 210 1376 155 6.55 17.32 10.77 14.94 @ 93.33
Seat Leon Cupra R 225 1376 166 6.17 15.91 9.74 14.54 @ 96.09
Seat Leon Cupra R 250 1376 185 5.65 14.07 8.43 14.00 @ 100.23
Seat Leon Cupra R 265 1376 196 5.39 13.20 7.81 13.73 @ 102.48
Seat Leon Cupra R 280 1376 207 5.17 12.46 7.29 13.49 @ 104.56
Seat Leon Cupra R 300 1376 222 4.91 11.63 6.71 13.21 @ 107.13
Seat Leon Cupra R 350 1376 258 4.43 10.10 5.66 12.68 @ 112.64
It must be pointed out that getting the power down on such a fwd car will be difficult, and I personally believe that it will require suspension set up etc to get anywhere near them. I think the first set is more realistic.
What do you think?

Rich, glad to here you have your new pocket rocket, hope its run in.
Looks like my figures are not miles apart then. I will be very interested to know what you acheive if you get a go, long wait at USC remember...and it will be hot too! I've heard of Cups doing very high 14s so good luck. Let us know how you get on.
