The name of this thread is condolences.
Not many condolences on here so far, at least not for the driver.
Nobody deserves to die. We all speed and nobody can deny that.
My condolences are extended to ALL involved.

Since when has a Subaru been a sports car? Makes it sound like an MX5. Maybe a sports saloon.
Nasty accident. From the fact that the car had overtaken several others in the minutes shortly before the accident, I'd say he was likely to have been "pushing on". Maybe it's just driving down south, but I don't get that much opportunity to overtake, especially at busy times in the day - there's too much oncoming traffic. People being overtaken can cause accidents too - how many times have you gone to overtake a guy that's been doing 40, who then accelerates to 60ish up the inside of you as you come past?
Sad to hear of this kind of accident, it's pretty sobering to see the pictures. The nearside of the car looks wiped off. Despite what's been written, nobody deserves to die like this.

Many sobering thoughts here. I get to pick up my STi 4 tomorrow. Would nave probably scorched off etc. etc. butI guess this brings it home these cars are very fast & need to be treated with respect & sometimes restraint.
I have five kids & a wife that did not want me to buy it. I promised her I'd be careful. After reading this thread I intend to honour that promise.
Of course people die in all sorts of cars, not only Scoobs. Still I would imagine that never too far away there's an idiot ready to test your ability to walk away from a race.
In this case the guy's dead. On the face of it he looks to have been driving dangerously. Though that we will never know for sure.

Perhaps some comments made on this thread would be better made without making assumptions.
As has already been mentioned this thread was titled "condolences", but what we have ended up with is thread debating two or three separate issues
NOT ALL accidents are speed dependent, NOT ALL Impreza owners are totally irresponsible when they overtake, and NOT ALL 30+ drivers believe that every 20 year is death trap.
This thread should have been about the "Online Subaru Community" passing on condolences to another Subaru driver and his passengers family and friends. Even if he was irresponsible some of the terms used to describe him shouldn't have been used.
Once again my sympathy goes out to all involved.
I hope I never have the misfortune to have a thread like this about me

I live near to where this accident happened and from the picture shown from the Shropshire Star, I think I recognise exactly where this accident occurred. I can't surmise what happened because it would depend on which way the car was travelling. If he was travelling on the opposite side to where the car landed up - he would have negotiated a tight LH bend after a long steep downhill straight. Loads of accidents have happened at Hungerford

I know this road very well, being bourght up near it and now travelling on it daily to work. It is a highly dangerous with several blind spots, twisty bends and narrow verges. It is a deceptive piuece of road where you can be travelling at speed only to see the sight of a tight bend looming. It is also on occasions a busy road. Indeed a couple of bikers died last month on it, about 400 yards away from this accident.
I was talking to people I know from the immediate area (also Impreza Turbo owners) who were overtaken by the car (not in their Scooby) just prior to the accident. Apparently the car was going at excess speed (even for a Scooby) , therefore it seems suggests to me that the driver was driving too fast and he did not pay proper respect to the road or the conditions.
Seeing as the accident took place on a bend after a fast piece of straight road, I would guess that the driver was going too fast down a highyl challenging country B road, misjudged an oncoming bend and ended up on the wrong side of the road just as the Merc was approaching.
Whilst we all do need to offer condolenses and it is a tragicn and sad series of events (especially for me being so close to home) this whole episode just shows that we do need to show care and attention especially when driving down unknown country roads !
Very sad ! Take care all !
