Here is the the latest quote from Max at Gruppe-S regarding my issues with the leaking collector to uppipe joint:-

"Hi Len,

I'm sorry they were not able to resolve the issue. Yes, all the vehicels we test on are turbos... these manifolds would not work on a non-turbo Impreza

As for other possible solutions... at this point I really don't know what to say. If everyone wanted to come by and have us install it that would be great, but obviously that's not reasonable in this situation. Please keep me updated on whether other people are having this problem as well... if it turns out a significant number of people are getting this problem I will speak to the manufacturer and get some sort of compensation/solution worked out.

Thanks

Max"

T-uk's car with my headers on seems not to be leaking after a few attempts, also oddly the flanges appear flatter now the manifold has been used - puzzling? Two laminated steel gaskets were used - they have a fire ring on only one side, so back to back there is a good fire ring. The boss we used for the EGT probe blew out though, but the uppipe join has remained.

Will let you know if it blows again.

Seems to be a lot of trial and error to this.

It was an oil blanking plate off a spare engine block M18 I think. A washer was used which may have deformed so that it could then work its way loose. We were not using much boost at all

Question

John B, do you have the part numbers of the gaskets you used please?

Everyone, soon i intend to have a silicon inlet pipe, TD05 front entry turbo and a set of Gruppe S headers fitted to my car. I would prefer it if they were all fitted at the same time. I`m based in Cumbria and will travel as far lancashire, yorkshire and glasgow/edinburgh to get them fitted, so i need to know who will be able to do all these jobs (preferably someone who knows about the potential header fitting problems) please. Cheers (Will you be looking for something to do after TOTB John? (nudge nudge wink wink)

@ Midlife:

Mark Aigin at Lateral Performance seems to sell a lot of turbos to people round here. Seems well regarded.

There's a couple of group buys on the headers. The first batch have their headers in transit from the States right now. The second batch will be ordered in about ten days to two weeks from now. See this thread if you're interested.

Well i´m on holiday in Schweiz ,and my manifold is also leaking really bad after the 1200km drive on the autobahn.
Later today i´m going to a shop to have it welded together.

I don´t think that there will be any more stress on the parts becourse of that(it is meent to be together)

Use an M12x1,25 (IIRC) bolt, cut it into the right length.

Definately bigger than M12 on mine, more like an M20 job i`d have thought.

We are talking about the same thing aren`t we? the hole is on the manifold, just before the manifold to up-pipe flange

Cheers

Martin, I think you'd be best getting them fitted local to you and driving around gently on them for a while to make sure they are sealing.

has anyone else had leak problems that they`ve managed to fix? coz mine still leak and it doesn`t matter how many gaskets you put in there. son of a bitch!!!!!!!!!!

anyone any thoughts on whether whipping them off and having them machined will help? although a friend says it probably won`t do any good and i cant explain why very well (its a flange thing), or.......

........should i just find a way of getting the up-pipe welded to the headers?

Cheers

2 transit gaskets worked for me, I also removed the bracket where the turbo and uppipe are.
