FFS its a SUBARU cage offered as an optional extra in the RA.
Sure? When last we discussed this issue it transpired that it didn't have any Subaru branding on it
It cant be that dangerous if its offered by SUBARU.
It doesn't matter whether it's manufacturer or not. Without a helmet, firmly secured seat and multipoint harness, cages make the interior of your car more dangerous, period. If you want to simulate the effect, try getting someone to hit you over the head with a scaffolding tube, and tell us how much it hurts. I know they breed you tough in Newcastle, but you ain't that tough.

I.ve seen Micky's cage and i would still get in his car coz i would rather bump my head on a solid piece of metal than have the roof moulded around my skull LOL.
If you get into an accident bad enough to take the roof out, you're f*ck*d either way, badly installed bolt-in cage or not. If the roll itself doesn't kill you, the high energy interface between your head and the cage will split your skull in two, or maybe three.

Thus, if you have a bad one, cage or not, you're dead, so what have you gained?

You're even worse off in a low speed accident, as even a 10mph parking speed shunt in combination with the close proximity of cage to skull, lack of support from the seat and belt would be enough to put your head in contact with the cage.

So, an accident that could have resulted in whiplash leaves you with a fractured skull. Sarcastic Lol!

His car is used every day to get him to work and back it will never see a rally stage while he has it,
Yeah, we know. As I said just now, the presence of the cage adds to the peril of the occupants in the case of the sort of road accident he is statistically most likely to encounter, thus, what's the point? There might be some excuse if the car was only used for track days. In a road car, it's a stupid idea, period.

Which car would you get in on the track Micky's (Roll cage) or Mine (No cage) ?
Yours, although given a choice it'd be neither as you sound almost as intelligent as him.

When will everyone understand this car is a road car the cage is mainly for show
We understood that Micky's a poser right from the word go. Our point was that the presence of this thing in his car is more likely to make him and any passengers dead/disabled posers than if it wasn't there.

AAAARRRGGGHHH my head is in bits lol.
Yes, it would be if you were involved in an accident while sat in Micky's car. Lol!

Where's Infarter? I'm amazed he hasn't contributed yet. Parents must've taken the internet access away when he stayed up past bedtime...

BTW, thanks Edcase and SubTypeR for the recent injection of common sense.

Speaking of which, did you try the insurance Micky? Bearing in mind that other cage is for sale, I'm sure a few prospective buyers would be interested in finding out how this affects things, not least your buddy Steve.

If they do sort it out in the time-honoured geordie fashion, we'll probably read about it in the papers, not here

Not wishing to charge in or anything, but the type RA was designed to be rallied hence the name Race Altered. It was supposed to be for people needing a good starting point for a group N rally car. Therefore, they were offering a roll cage, for exactly that purpose, ie if you are going to use a RA as a proper rally car, get a factory fitted rollcage, to be used with a helmet etc.
It was never Subarus intention to turn their car into a Maxpower type road machine, think back to when these cars were issued, and the reputation the subaru had at the time. Its only in recent years, that many more have appeared on the roads in the Uk
Flame suit zipped up and on!

You wouldn't find a cage like that fitted into a Group N car, in this country at least, as it's not to blue book standard, and thus wouldn't get its papers. I wonder though whether these things are fitted in Japan to satisfy some sort of local homologation requirement.

Your underlying point is spot-on though. Still, if you're enough of a poser to want one of these things in your car, you're hardly going to want to admit to yourself that it's likely to make your car more dangerous, are you? This is, I suspect, the reason why some of those posting on this thread are so keen to LOL about it.

The one question which was asked in serious was whether it is possible to live with a cage of this type in a road car for daily use or whether its a complete pain in the rear end. Mickey seemed not to answer. Wonder what his complete and honest answer would be maybe Mickey has sprayed his cage pink and is selling it on ebay. Maybe Mickey should be put in a cage as drinking and driving is showing exactly how responsible he is. I think most Subaru drivers wouldn`t wanna be associated with a drunk driver (Potential murderer). Tell you what I wouldn`t like to use him in a distributor as he aint the brightest spark.

One hopes that he was joking about the four pints comment, although it is hard to tell.

Mind you, driving uninsured isn't exactly responsible either, and his continual dodging of this issue (one minute it's "in", next minute it's in but not bolted to the floor, next it's "not fitted") says a lot.

As for whether it's a pain in the *rs* or not, I'd imagine there's now so much pride at stake that even if it was, he wouldn't admit it.

Congratulations on busting Lordharding's north/south divide theory wide open BTW. Proves there is sense north of Leeds

This thread is mad...how can a post about a bloody rollcage cause so much grief?!

Must say I do come down on the "travel rug/proper welded in cage in competition car/southern" side of the debate, but it's great fun either way.

Highlight of thread so far? "I'm fitting drum brakes to the front" PMSL.

Is the cage propperly bolted in yet?

Is it propperly padded? Safety devices sell some good cage padding.

Do they do carpark rallying in Japan? Ive got a video that has some on it and the cages most of them use are similar to the scooby one stickymicky has. But then again in carpark rallying they all use helmets.

Jono

rubberjonny gav anytime me and scoobydevil (my brother)will be more than happy to meet you and 9 other fools to chat about rollcages and i think it is your nerves that have been touched.

scoobydevil left the royal marines 4 years to work with our dad they have built many rally cars and never "lost" a client and there have been some big high speed off's in the cars they have built.

will have to wait till mid august when the rest of our mates get back from the gulf.

Lord H: You're confusing it with a proper cage. They have headset hooks on them. Micky's doesn't.

I think a cage would be cool, you could tie your doris up to it when you are tired of her moaning and go off into the pub, guess it could also serve as a mobile four poster bed
