Stef,
I thought they may have sneaked 3 depending on the chipping and driver ability. 1 and 2 I definitely thought were scoobified. Looks like you all got some great results, great 0-60's and 1/4.
nice one boys
cheers

stef, just to be pedantic
didnt you turn up at donno prior to having a go against mike with CK1 plates on, now who was being presumptious?
PS just waxed it so there is another 10MPH top speed

I am ostensibly pi$$ed off, hence my (+ most other RS boys) near-silence!
I jst hope my S2 is half-decent enough to do a few standard scoobs on the track this year....that'll cheer me up a little
Otherwise, I'm gonna have to consider a bank-loan for the P1 + WRX I'm going to test-drive!

What's all this 'killer' nonsense you nancies??? Get your own names!
Moray.
No you can't 'cos your cars more powerful than mine (and you've never beaten me anyway! ).
John.
Mike's car wasn't one that I expected ever to be quicker than, either at The Pod or on track, so I hoped it would add to the pre-bout psychology. I guess it worked!!!!
Besides, I had attained the nickname long before then though, so no, it wasn't presumptious.
Looking forward to seeing your beast next week, I wonder if we'll be in the same session? I doubt it . At least I can get a ride then though!

Dear All,
I'm now back from the hols and as promised to Stef I would put a posting about the few days.
As you can see from the rolling road shoot-out, I picked the best possible cars for the job. The standard Escort made 305 lb ft on its first run (more than the Scooby Cat 4 car!) and you should have seen Stef's face - he immediately accused us of cheating and of fielding a chipped car in its place. I must confess that at this stage we were also worried that perhaps the previous owner hd chipped it and not told anybody! However, Superchips checked the ECU and fortunately it was all okay and totally standard. In the end they checked Gavin's standard Escort THREE times and each time it produced within a few bhp / torque of the first run. Not only that, but they ran it first AND last to ensure the dyno readings remained accurate for each car. In the end they picked the lowest readings obtained to use (as detailed by Stef). Still, just under 250bhp and 300lb ft of torque from a totally STANDARD car (not even an exhaust and filter) goes to show that we picked a good one (especially when you compare that to the bhp figures recorded in Fast Ford etc). Next we had our Cat 2 car which was a totally standard Sapphire Cosworth baring an exhaust and filter. Again, this produced truelly amazing figures (as detailed by Stef) with just under 250bhp and 280 lb ft of torque. Again, we obviously made the right choice of car...
The next Category was more of what we expected with the Stage 1 chipped car virtually matching their STi at around the 280bhp figure as detailed in by Stef (just what you would expect from a Stage 1 chipped Cossie / STi).
Obviously we walked the Cat 4 run and they struggled to record a run first time out due to the car spinning ALL four wheels on the rolling road!
At this point I was estatic, it looked as though we were going to walk away with ALL categories - the cars were considerably better setup / prepared / more powerful and produced the goods on the rolling road. We went home very happy bunnies that night, with the Scooby boys quaking in their boots.
The following day I dropped my car off to Harvey's to have the solid diff taken off and the standard one put on, as well as a quick service before going to Scotland.
On the way to Peterborough, the weather was crap with the rain literally bucketing down and then I got a phone call to say that our Cat 4 car had snapped a cam on the A1.... This was the first of our casualties and it later transpired that it had a hydraulic tapped that had destroyed itself. This meant that despite their Cat 4 car performing worse than their Cat 2 car due to a dodgey clutch, we still lost that category by default. I then heard by phone before I arrived at the airfield that Stef had done a 0-60 of 4.5s in the wet!
I was still hopeful that our 280lb ft of torque would do the job in taking the top speed away from Stef at the very least, but on it's first run poor Steve's car sheered the CV joint from the front drive-shaft. The torque certainly did it's job, but not in the way we had hoped.... At this point Stef was obviously jumping up and down with glee with the Cossies suffering two mechanical failures. Obviously this made our two remaining owners VERY nervous and they were then reluctant to do anything abusive to the cars to get the times required, as they did not want to suffer the same fate as the rest and end up going home on a trailer. However, as mentioned the standard Escort did beat the standard Scoob in the handling stakes and would have gone faster, but the owner would not do anymore runs in deference to the standard clutch.
The only time that Stef got wrong was the fact that the Stage 1 chipped Cossie managed a 0-60 of 5.1s, but Ben could not improve on his standing quarter time, and was reluctant to take part in any more events, but did so with a little arm twisting.
When Harvey came to collect the stranded 4x4, I got him to bring my car on the trailer so that we could at least show the Scooby girls a reasonably quick car, but obviously nothing I did would count (as I was not in the running), so despite show-boating it (wheelspinning in fourth on the wet runnway at 120mph +!) and walking away with the top speed honours (off the clock and rev counter ), all I could do was watch the Cossie reputation full apart at the seams. This was exasperated by it being Francis (cat 4) first ever engine malady in seven years of ownership (it would happen at the worse possible time!).
I would also point out that Stef's times were HELPED by the wet, as when it dried out, he couldn't get anywhere near them. Whether this was due to the rain acting as water injection and giving better power or due to the wheel-spinning keeping the boost up, I don't know, but it did help and I'm still in shock at his 0-60 time recorded - RESPECT!
As to Craig in his STi - top bloke, top car, well deserved times. Watching it launch was amazing, it LOOKED and sounded faster than anything there on the day. I only wish he could have gone up against Francis.
The 22B was the biggest let down of the day - afterall our standard car recorded more torque on it's first run! 22B Stef also wimped out in doing any decent runs as he knew he had won by default (chicken).
James in the standard UK car was a bvgger, as just when it looked like we could match his 0-60 time of 6.1s, he pulls a 5.8 from the bag. James, you GIT!
Anyway, I would just like to thank our drivers Gavin (Cat 1), Steve (Cat 2), Ben (Cat 3) and Franics (Cat 4) for trying their best. I know that if it wasn't for machanical failures we would have done a lot better and it may have been 2-2, as there would have been no-one backing off...
For those Cossie owners who think their car is faster, then I would suggest that you enter the Revs top speed shoot-out which will be advertised in this month's magazine, where I will be defending my 172mph....

Mike,
Thanks for that. Like I said on the day, I'm in no doubt that if Francis' car was running it would have walked his class - shame 'cos I would have liked to have seen it go - and he would certainly have been faster than me everywhere.
Once I've got the ECU sorted, then it may be different - I'll let you know with that.
Serious respect for your car - you're obviously a complete fruitcake to drive it with 2wd - infact, I don't who gets the top honours, you or Stef!
I'll be along for he top speed - sure I'll get 165 - and I'll be at the Cossie v Scoob trackday to kick Scoob & Cossie butt. AND Santa Pod on the 7th hopefully!!

WAHAAY! The wanderer returns!
But come on Mike, sort it out!
Noone really believes that the Escort really was that powerful. even the Cossie boys. If it was, why didn't it destroy the Scoob? Still, no matter, it still lost!
And we were certainly NOT scared that night!
We knew, and hoped that the Cossies would all be more powerful than their counterparts, as it would prove that even with extra power, a Cossie is simply no match for a Scoob!
The fact that the Cat 3 Cossie was beaten in EVERY discipline bar top speed, and then it won by only 1mph, by our Cat 2 car only proves that point further.
Cat 4 was the one we were expecting to struggle in, especially as our car was slower than our Cat 2 & 3 cars!!!!
Unfortunately for you, Cossie reliability reared it's beautiful head once again!
So Mike, I'm glad you think you picked the right cars for the job, as that confirms the overall conclusion (ie, Cossies are poo! )
It would appear the Cossie fraternity doesn't agree though!
Maybe next time.......NOT!!!!!!!!

Stef,
Obvioulsy it wasn't the cars, or they wouldn't have produced the readings on the dyno.... Some of us have some mechanical sympathy though and didn't want to go home on a trailer...
Still, a well deserved win by your crowd. The guys on the RSOC BBS will have to come to the Revs top speed shoot-out to prove their metal, as it is very easy to say that you can beat people.... My guess is that the majority of them will not turn up though, as they seem good at boasting in writing, but that is as far as it goes. At least Bruce and Dan turned up to Santa Pod to see if they could beat Francis time, unlike others I could mention.....
At the moment the RSOC BBS has gone haywire and my password etc has been lost, but I will be posting shortly.
Best regards
Mike
