So is the conclusion that you just need to go to Subaru for the bolt bits then for blanks

I have had the headers sitting in the garage from the 1st group buy

Just waiting for my new turbo then I can get them both fitted at the same time........... I just need to get another gasket (double up) as mine has a dodgy flange.. only slightly out though - Big Bear has to get his flanges machined...........

Thumbs up

Fitted mine on Sunday! Had a nightmare getting the last bolt off from the original heatshield, rounded the head off and took 2 odd hours to remove! After that, straightforward enough! Had no issues with the collector to up-pipe joint as some have noted, but I had the flexi pipe so plenty of movement there to join
Just need to get back up to see Bob for a tweak to Tek3!
Thanks again Ben

I have 6 spare head/manifold bolts for sale if anyone needs them. I bought them from Subaru just incase I broke any of mine, were not needed in the end.

Hi
Got my headers and flexi up-pipe fitted today at a small independant garage. I stayed and helped??? The guy who did the job was impressed with how well it all fitted together especially the headers themselves that aligned exactly to the heads with no pulling about.

Wrap was a bit of a pain and took a couple of hours last night. I used almost all of the 100ft with d/p taking most (wrapped it too close). I switched the pretty useless stainless ties for stainless jubilee clips as I felt the ties weren't secure enough.

The whole fitting job took about 4 hours but that included de-cat d/p and mid section too. Sounds good and seems to breathe more easily, response is better and pulls well. If I could cure what I think is fuel cut, I could really give it some. Rolling road session booked for next week.

Many thanks to Ben for some great organisation.

Gerry

PS
To remove the original up-pipe the engine mount bolts were removed and the engine raised for clearance. Also for the d/p change the guy decided to release the drive shaft and swing the lower suspension arm out of the way for access. This worked well and made the job easier. It took a few minutes to do.

The drive shaft had a pin through the spline at the gearbox end which must be removed before trying to lever the shaft out. A nice surprise is, that the oil seal is in-board, so the spline doesn't pass through it i.e. no oil loss and mess.

Hope this helps anyone about to do their headers.

Question

The Dark Force,

if the newer up-pipes are 2.25" bore this will make a step at your earlier 2.5" collector flange.

I am not sure how a flexi up-pipe can help with any leak issues , unless they are making the flanges flatter too. I would also guess that a flexi will restrict flow and also be a weak spot long term.

I have been running john banks original gruppe-s set and since "doubling up" on the collector/up-pipe gasket ,I have not had any more leak issues. john had actually joined the group buy for me as he needs his set back for his big engine but thinking about the flexi today made me question the flow through it and the need if the flanges are still not flat.
